Transcript
00:00Mix 94.7, it's John Mack backstage, West of the Fest 2025. Brent and Zach from Shine
00:14Down.
00:15Hello.
00:16How are we?
00:17Good to see you again.
00:18And we're back.
00:19And we're about to say, you guys, I'm not sure if we've had a repeat artist for West
00:22of the Fest that I can think of.
00:23Well, we're honored to, uh, if that's the, that's the case, let's go.
00:27Yeah. We were breaking records out here.
00:30How's y'all's Austin trip been so far?
00:32You literally just came from a showcase, right?
00:34We came for you.
00:35That's right.
00:36We're here.
00:37Excellent answer.
00:38If we could end the interview right there.
00:39No, no, no.
00:40Look, man, for a band that, you know, we, for years, Austin is a big deal.
00:44And then there for like the longest time, we weren't able to get to Austin and then,
00:49you know, finding this relationship with you and you guys and girls stepping out and supporting
00:53us as a band means the world to us.
00:55So now we're, we're making plans to frequent Austin much more.
01:00Awesome.
01:01Yeah.
01:02Uh, you guys are gearing up for an arena tour, of course, this summer.
01:03Uh, is there any, like, you know, things you're doing between now and then to get like physically
01:07mentally ready?
01:08This is a drain, like being out on the road for like, we've had time, we've had time to
01:13prepare for it though.
01:14We only did 12 shows last year, so we, this, you know, we're, we're ready to tour now.
01:18I think we have enough like mental break and I think now you just kind of start really
01:22working on your, your, your, your cardio and you're, you've got to run around a stage for
01:26two hours a night.
01:27Make sure you're, you're able to do that successfully.
01:30Yeah.
01:31It's always the same thing.
01:32It, it doesn't matter.
01:33Like you can go in and rehearse a lot, but the fact that, and you need to do that just
01:40to have your mentality kind of locked in for the choreography, the set list, if you're
01:44going to change things up.
01:45The thing that happens though, is like you're in an empty room, building a stage, going
01:50through it.
01:51And then the first night you have an audience in front of you, you can't necessarily predict
01:56those feelings.
01:57So like all these different emotions, all these different chemicals are firing.
02:00It's like a basketball team doing practice and then all of a sudden you're in front of
02:0320,000 people.
02:04You have to make a three ball.
02:05Yeah, man.
02:06It's like, you know what I mean?
02:07Your adrenaline is crazy and it adds so much to your cardio, like your heart rate, you
02:11know what I mean?
02:12You can, you can be in rehearsal, jump up and down and then like, you're still not sore.
02:16Right.
02:17And then you get off the, like first three shows is like Advil city.
02:20Right.
02:21I just started, um, and I'm not even joking about this, but I like just started the chapel
02:25road and like cardio thing in the gym.
02:28I'm driving people nuts probably in the morning and like the gym because I'm like running
02:33and jumping and singing at the same time.
02:35Full hot to go.
02:36Yeah.
02:37I didn't even think about that.
02:38She like, she did all that stuff on Tik TOK and like showed like how she got ready to
02:42like run around the way that she did and still singing key and like have breath control.
02:47So yeah.
02:48I'm taking a guitar on my treadmill next week.
02:50I'm taking tips from a hot to go.
02:52Okay.
02:53Yeah.
02:54Put that out there.
02:56Um, of course, like we're talking about the tour, I've been asking all our artists today.
02:59I'm really interested to hear y'all's answer on this.
03:01We're asking everyone's first concert they ever saw, the last concert they ever saw and
03:06the best concert they ever saw.
03:09Take the first concert.
03:10My first concert was the beach boys.
03:11I was six years old.
03:12I remember that.
03:13So good.
03:14The Coliseum?
03:15No.
03:16It was the, they, they opened the Thompson Bowling.
03:18Oh wow.
03:19Knoxville?
03:20Yeah.
03:21Knoxville.
03:22Yeah.
03:23UT.
03:24Um, mine was.
03:26We're all orange too.
03:27So yeah.
03:28But both orange.
03:29Yeah.
03:30You guys are burnt.
03:31His is ugly orange.
03:32Uh, and I'm from Tennessee as well.
03:33But you have McConaughey.
03:34That's true.
03:35We do.
03:36Yeah.
03:37They don't have McConaughey.
03:38Yeah.
03:39Yeah.
03:40Um, uh.
03:41We have Kane though.
03:42It's true.
03:43The big red machine.
03:44Leonard Skinner.
03:45ZZ Top.
03:46Damn Yankees.
03:47First.
03:48Wow.
03:49Damn Yankees.
03:50Damn Yankees.
03:51ZZ Top.
03:52Then Leonard Skinner.
03:53Uh, Mud Island amphitheater.
03:54You get a show where damn Yankees is the opener.
03:56I do not remember the last concert.
03:57The last show you went to?
03:58Yeah.
03:59I was probably with you.
04:00That you.
04:01No.
04:02You went to Lincoln Park.
04:03Oh yeah.
04:04You're right.
04:06Oh that's good.
04:07I did go to Lincoln Park at the Barclays Center.
04:08Yeah.
04:09With Emily.
04:10Yeah.
04:11Yeah.
04:12Last.
04:13I go to so many shows.
04:14You do.
04:15Um.
04:16I went and saw Sister Hazel a couple weeks ago.
04:17Love that.
04:18The last one before that me and my wife, uh, went and saw Garth Brooks in Vegas.
04:19Ooh.
04:20That's good too.
04:21And my best show ever also happens to be Garth Brooks, uh, in pieces tour, 90s.
04:24Six.
04:25Yeah.
04:26That sounds about right.
04:2796 or so.
04:28Just grooving to the music in the background.
04:29Yeah.
04:30Thunder rolling.
04:31The best show I ever went to or that I can recall, I don't know if it's a, you know what?
04:36It's, it's the one that sticks out in my mind the most was Lollapalooza in 1996.
04:40I knew it.
04:41Ooh.
04:42Um.
04:43Because it was.
04:44I was about to say, name all the people on that lineup.
04:45That's a good lineup.
04:46So check it out.
04:47It's like, basically get to the forefront of the day.
04:52The Ramones, Rancid, Rage Against the Machine, Soundgarden, and Metallica.
04:58Yeah.
04:59One day.
05:00In one day.
05:01One day.
05:02That's a pretty damn good day.
05:03And I had, I was basically on the top of the hill cause it was in Bristol, Tennessee, literally
05:07at an airfield.
05:08Like, that's what it was.
05:09It was probably, I mean, at the time, I mean, there had to have been 40 or 50,000 people.
05:14Of course.
05:15There was this like slope, this, just this dirt slope.
05:19And I'm remember cause all I wanted to see was Soundgarden.
05:21Okay.
05:22But I wanted to be on the rail.
05:23Yeah.
05:24So I had to run through essentially Rage Against the Machine's pit to get past all that.
05:31Not a safe place to be.
05:32Yeah.
05:33I just remember being 18 years old and I just took off.
05:36Yeah.
05:37But I got to the rail for Soundgarden and sang, sang every single word with him.
05:42And 30 years later we're talking about it.
05:43So it was worth it.
05:45Yeah.
05:46Totally.
05:47For sure.
05:48Brett and Zach from Shine Down.
05:49Thank you guys so much for being here.
05:50Thanks for having us again.
05:51We appreciate you.
05:52And we're back at it.
05:53West of the Fest 2025.
05:54Let's go.
