00:14How are you?
00:15I'm good.
00:16How are you doing?
00:17Doing really good.
00:18We were just talking about this couch and how comfortable it is back here.
00:20Yeah, it really is.
00:21We're lounging here.
00:22Yeah, we're definitely chilling.
00:23Normally, it's a very formal interview process.
00:26This is amazing.
00:27It's my ideal setting.
00:28Exactly.
00:30I feel like we just sit here and just veg and watch shows all day.
00:34I'm down.
00:35Exactly.
00:36Good.
00:37Tell me about your Austin experience.
00:38This is your first time here?
00:39Yes.
00:40It's been really, really nice.
00:41Everyone we ask who lives here is saying how nice this city is, and everyone's happy to
00:45live here.
00:46Every driver we've been with, we ask them, they're like, yeah, I love it here.
00:48I love living here.
00:49So yeah, that's our impression as well.
00:51Yeah.
00:52It's been great.
00:53Growing up in Canada, what were your impressions of Texas as a kid?
00:55What did you think it would be like, and has it kind of measured up to what you thought
00:58it would be here today?
01:00I probably only imagined farmer's fields.
01:02Yeah.
01:03I don't think I imagined any tall buildings like this as a child.
01:05Yeah.
01:06Like tumbleweed rolling through.
01:07Yeah.
01:08Like horse and buggy.
01:09Exactly.
01:10Well, it used to be like that, to be fair.
01:11Yeah.
01:12Yeah, true.
01:13Like 100 years ago.
01:14Yeah.
01:15Historically accurate.
01:16Yeah.
01:17Yeah.
01:18Historically accurate four-year-old.
01:19Exactly.
01:20Very impressive.
01:21Very well-versed in books at age four.
01:22So kudos.
01:23I want to talk about the music.
01:25Talk about, of course, many people have heard you on TikTok over the past few years.
01:30Talk about TikTok as kind of like an outlet for artists.
01:33Obviously during COVID, it was kind of the only outlet for artists.
01:36Have you found TikTok to be obviously advantageous for you?
01:39Do you think it's a good thing for the music industry to have artists like kind of be discovered
01:43via that way versus otherwise?
01:45Yeah.
01:46I guess I would describe it as like a double-edged sword sort of thing.
01:49I think a lot of people would describe it that way, like TikTok has brought me so much
01:53good.
01:54My whole fan base is because of that app, which is really cool and also so much reach.
01:59My high school was canceled because of COVID and that was my only outlet and I started
02:03doing TikTok.
02:04So I see it as a very positive light still.
02:07Yeah, absolutely.
02:08Talk about this Kelly Clarkson show situation.
02:10Obviously this is a huge thing.
02:11You were featured on there recently.
02:13How did you discover this was going to happen and take me through all that because that's
02:17like a huge deal.
02:18Yeah.
02:19Like a lot of things I just hear from my management, they're like, Kelly Clarkson is going to put
02:22your song on her show.
02:25I'm a huge Kelly Clarkson fan.
02:27We grew up watching American Idol and I've watched her winning and her singing that song
02:32like so many times.
02:33So to hear her say my name on that show is so crazy.
02:37Yeah.
02:38Texas girl too.
02:39Is she?
02:40Yeah, she's from up near Dallas area.
02:41Oh, that's awesome.
02:42That's why it feels so good.
02:43That's exactly it.
02:44Very proud Texan.
02:46You've had some showcases here in town over the past couple of days.
02:48Talk about your experiences around town.
02:51Have you had a chance to like eat anything and like in the general vibes of being in
02:55Austin for the past couple of days?
02:56Oh, the vibes have been incredible.
02:58I keep saying I kind of want to live in a place that's like this all the time where
03:01there's just always a show to go to.
03:03There's always people to meet.
03:04There's always something to do.
03:06Yeah.
03:07And the venues have been very cool as well.
03:09We've eaten a lot of tacos.
03:10That's good.
03:11Yeah.
03:12Then you're doing it right.
03:13Okay, good.
03:14That's good to know.
03:15Speaking of shows, I want to ask everybody this today because I always find interesting
03:18answers.
03:19We have three questions for you.
03:20What was your first concert, your last concert and your best concert that you've ever seen?
03:25Okay.
03:26My first concert, I was actually never a concert goer as a kid.
03:28We were always just like camping and stuff.
03:29That's all I did.
03:30So it was in 2019 and I went to go see the Jonas Brothers like reunion tour at Scotiabank
03:35in Toronto.
03:36Classic.
03:37So that was a big deal for me.
03:38It was my birthday.
03:39And then what was the other two?
03:40Your last concert.
03:41What was your last concert?
03:42My last concert.
03:43Who was it?
03:44Before we get to that, what's your favorite Jonas Brothers song?
03:45And is it the year 3000?
03:46I think I like Don't Throw It Away.
03:48Ooh, solid.
03:49Yeah.
03:50I think that's a good one.
03:51It's a good deep cut there.
03:52Yeah.
03:53I don't know.
03:54Kind of.
03:55Maybe it's like a B-side.
03:56A little bit.
03:57My last concert I went to was probably something here at South By, but like my true one that
04:02I bought tickets for was recently with my friend.
04:04I went to go see Louis Volbeck at Massey Hall in Toronto.
04:09Incredible artist.
04:10So good.
04:11Yeah.
04:12Okay.
04:13And best concert you've ever seen.
04:14This is always the toughest one for artists.
04:15Best concert.
04:16Yeah, I know.
04:17I actually haven't seen that many besides like specials and stuff.
04:18That's true.
04:19But I think my favorite concert I've seen is maybe, I think Ryan Beattie, he's another
04:24folk artist, just had this like circle of like eight musicians around him.
04:28He's just in the center with a microphone and headphones on just singing and it was
04:32incredible.
04:33Yeah.
04:34That does sound like a core memory for sure.
04:35Yes.
04:36What does the rest of the year look like for you?
04:37What's going on for the rest of the year?
04:38I'm planning-
04:39You played a new song here today.
04:40Yes, I did.
04:41Yes.
04:42So there's that.
04:43So make sure you guys go stream that.
04:44Yeah, that song.
04:45Yeah, it's awesome.
04:46That song is called Future Emma.
04:47It's coming out in April 11th, so I don't know.
04:51Yeah.
04:52That'll be cool.
04:53And then I'm planning on releasing my first album, which is really exciting.
04:57Are you nervous?
04:58Excited?
04:59All of it?
05:00I'm nervous.
05:01I'm nervous.
05:02It's a bit overwhelming.
05:03There's so many steps to everything, like the mixing and mastering.
05:04Do you have a title for it?
05:05I do.
05:06Okay.
05:07Do you want to tell us or no?
05:08I don't know.
05:09I don't know.
05:10I'll let you.
05:11I'll leave it alone.
05:12I don't want to push it.
05:13I'm keeping it close to my heart for now.
05:14Exactly.
05:15It could be like Austin Tacos or something like that.
05:16Yeah, probably.
05:18Not good options, but options nonetheless.
05:21Sean Mack, Billyann, hanging out at West of the Fest.
05:23Thank you so much for being here.
05:24Awesome.
05:26We're back soon.
