00:00I don't even know what to make of this judging by your sigh and your face. It's an
00:06Exasperation sensation is what it is. I know
00:11Like well, okay, you're beaten down over there mark and I hate to see it not beaten down
00:16Just you're flummoxed. You're baffled. I don't like it. I don't like yes, I'm confused. I don't like being confused
00:25But when it comes to sports, it shouldn't be it shouldn't be confusing this came up yesterday
00:30We're gonna leave all of the corporation's names involved out my mouth. Okay, because I know better than to do that on the radio
00:36yeah, but
00:38Christy knows this about me
00:40she can she can sense it when it's coming and she knows to just go the other way don't get around me because
00:45When something doesn't work like technology doesn't work
00:52for
00:53No reason at all. I have a hard time. Mm-hmm
00:57I get confused right and I don't usually handle it
01:00Well, my kids could probably tell you a story of me showing not my best moment yesterday
01:05When I sat down actually was one of the kids who sat down and want to watch something on a Sunday morning
01:10I we're just relaxing baseball practice got rained out click and
01:17No, no, no, you don't get to watch you need to create an account, sir
01:22But I have an account no not today, you know, oh no, so then you call that people those people and what happened my account
01:29Oh, we have no record of your account. Well, I've had an account for about five years and we've watched every day
01:34So figure it out. Sorry, we can't figure it out doesn't matter whole things over and
01:41It's been figured out. But the bottom line is I don't I don't do well. Yeah with that and
01:47That's how I feel about the 49ers right now. I'm
01:50Confused and there's no customer service number you know, no and and and I would actually argue to the end
01:57It's not the Niners job to come explain this to us right now. I know we want that
02:02It's not their job to do that in the middle of the offseason
02:06They'll have a press conference at some point and if they still literally are not employing any defensive linemen
02:12We can ask and they'll answer and there'll be all kinds of questions. I get it. We'll get there
02:17I don't know what the team's gonna look like by then
02:19but
02:21today
02:22whoo
02:24this is a super confusing offseason and
02:28Of all the names who have left the one that bothers me the most remains Dre Greenlaw
02:34Listen to this. Okay. This is from Adam Schefter. And today he was on
02:4092.5 FM
02:42altitude sports radio in Denver, which is now
02:47The home of Dre Greenlaw and
02:49Hufanga for that matter
02:51Listen to this the Niners were trying to get back to a Greenlaw even after Denver had an agreement done with him
02:56if they were pushing to get that done and
02:59they were trying to flip his decision in this world that we live in where you know people commit and
03:04there are agreements and
03:06The Niners tried to flip Dre Greenlaw back to San Francisco
03:10And I think they were pretty persuasive but not persuasive enough and I think Dre Greenlaw stood his ground and kind of stay with
03:17Denver
03:18whoo
03:20They were pretty persuasive
03:23But not persuasive enough
03:25Right. Okay. What why do they need to go and try to flip him?
03:29Why couldn't they have just won the deal in the first place request?
03:33You know if if you really wanted him if you liked it, then you should have put a ring on it. Uh-oh
03:39Oh
03:40Well Beyonce nod there if you wanted the player
03:43Yeah, then you give him the money you give him the bag. You had the player you like the player
03:48It seemed like he liked you too. And then he signs with Denver and now you're gonna try to flip him
03:54This is not the portal and you are not Iowa State like be a big be a big league team here and
04:03Target a free agent your guy and pay him. Let's take it a step further
04:07I agree with everything you just said now
04:10Let's go to the moment where they realize they've lost it and they call him. Okay. Now you're drunk dialing your ex
04:17Oh boy, right in there. Now. You're drunk down. Hold on. I
04:23Promise I didn't need to say I'm sorry. I
04:27Won't do it again. We'll do everything that you asked for
04:32Promise I'll take out the garbage
04:35Just please
04:38baby, baby, please
04:41Please baby, baby, please come back and he was like, oh
04:48That's it. That's a nice invitation
04:52but
04:54Now I'm good
04:57This from the guy whose wife
05:00Two months ago is on social media with the other wives
05:06With balloons and stuffed animals and tears. Yeah, because they were worried about
05:13leaving the
05:1449ers
05:15That's the same organization that came crawling to you tried to get you to change your mind and you still
05:23Said no
05:26Dude what is going on here?
05:29I don't know. I don't know
05:31Like the other ones were telegraphed Charverius Ward. Yeah, sure
05:35He told you two months ago. My wife never wants to come here again bad memories. So we're out
05:41Okay, you know our thoughts go out to you and your family and they always will and even the use check like, okay
05:48You're gonna he's gone because you can't afford him, but that's there's no takers. And so now he's back
05:54We're gonna pay dead cat money on someone. We're keeping
05:59Right now and I know I know oh, but they're gonna pay that anyway
06:04I know but it's still it's stupid. It's weird optics and maybe that was Kyle
06:10Maybe Kyle was like I'm not taking a pay cut again
06:13Then I was like, all right, then you're out and then he went and and was about to sign somewhere else and then went
06:18Yeah, I don't really want to do this
06:21Can we go back to the Niners and find out if there's something we can do?
06:23Maybe that's the way that went down. I don't know still a little odd. It's weird
06:27Right and there's just a lot of weird going on there is and you can even hit me with Aaron Banks and Jalen Moore
06:34And say the price was too high. So they found new destinations fine. I'll allow that and that's just the way this goes
06:40But Dre Greenlaw you wanted him
06:43I thought and then Denver pays him not an exorbitant amount of money a good contract for Dre
06:49It's three years and then you reportedly knock on his door and you dial him up and say hey
06:55Any chance we could get you to flip flip your commit
06:58I know that you said you sat there at the at the card table in your high school gym
07:03And you said we're going to Florida and now I'm from Florida State
07:07We're gonna try to call you and get a flip. It happens. It does it happens, but usually not in free agency with a grown man
07:13Well, no, I mean it's happened many many times right in in professional sports Carlos Boozer
07:19Deandre Jordan Jordan's allows thing. Yeah, like didn't lock him in his room and to have something like that famously the story was
07:27This is kind of the way it went
07:30The Mavericks signed Deandre Jordan in that whatever sort of period of time where it's like you can negotiate
07:36But it it's not official yet
07:38And then all of a sudden a day or two later
07:41The Clippers are like we're coming to see you and all the Clippers went to social media and started tweeting out
07:49emojis of transportation devices
07:51Like Blake Griffin's there's a plane and Chris Paul's like there's a train like and they they they did it all at the same time
07:59Which was like we're going we're coming to get you and they all flew out to Deandre Jordan and they convinced him to flip
08:05Yeah, they convinced him to flip and it was a big old deal big old deal
08:10As to whether or not like that was dirty dealing or or or or whatever
08:16I don't know, you know to Schefter's point where he's like, well, this is the world we live in now
08:20It's like I don't know. I think we've been living in a world like that for a long time
08:23It's probably a little bit more acceptable now or it's like dude until you sign you haven't signed that's business
08:30So, I don't know but why my question sounds like it's similar to yours. Why don't you end up in this position?
08:37Yeah, if this was a priority
08:40Then there's absolutely no way you should have gotten beaten by anyone that's your damn homegrown player
08:47I don't know what the priority is from the outside looking in it seems like the priority is saving money
08:54Saving cash, maybe not salary cap money
08:56Can only you know you've pointed it out before and you're not wrong
08:59You know, yeah, the cap is not the issue if it's the cash that they're trying to save well, they're doing that
09:05They're not spending a lot of money in free agency and Aaron Banks is a guy who you and I debated whether or not
09:12He's still a good player. I somebody thought he was good. And if the price tag was too high, that's fine
09:16but you spent money to bring in a backup quarterback a guy that you
09:21Reportedly wanted to draft a few years back. It was a lot less money a lot less
09:24Well, you know you had money for that. So I don't know what the priority is. They have money
09:30It looks like the priority is saving it's not you know, yuck. Yeah, I agree
09:37I don't know how
09:40awful motto
09:41For a football team. Yeah, and it's it's definitely a shift in the way that they've done things in the past miners football
09:48We're saving money
09:50That's a commercial this year maybe
09:54Do they have a slogan? It's worse than the Giants. Nobody likes us. Yeah
10:00I mean, that's terrible Niner football saving. Yeah
10:05That well if popcorns a dollar then great. Yeah, I don't think I'd like to know I'd like to do the same thing Niners
10:14That's what I'd like to do. I'd like to come to the game and save money
10:19Like no, you can have all my cap money. I'd like to save my outgoing cash your cash
10:24Yeah, I promise you some crap down the road that I'll go back on because it's non-guaranteed
10:29Right NFL. Tell you what, I'm gonna sign you to a three-year season ticket deal
10:35But we're gonna have an out clause after one game
10:39But I'd like my outgoing cash to stop so free popcorn and Skittles for everyone, right?
10:48Right. That's how it works. Yeah, I
10:50Just again my mind remains open. They are they are a smart group
10:56They have been March 7th, they have been a successful group it is it is st. Patrick's Day
11:01So I missed a memo by the green great. Let's drink. Yes, although nobody knows why I still have this dream that at bars
11:10Bouncers should be able to interview people on their way into the bar tonight and be like, what is st. Patrick's Day?
11:16What are you celebrating and if they can't get the right answer, they don't get to come in. That's a great. That's a great
11:22I think it's gonna be a really tight game. Thank you steak. Although that was the bar
11:26That was before the Chiefs game in October, by the way, oh, yeah
11:30Kind of tight but not really chiefs and 10-point game was 18. I think so score
11:35Anyway, whatever. I I just yeah, like I'm open-minded
11:40And I'm sure they're not dumb. But if that's if that's the best we can all come up with right now. Yuck
11:47That's all I can see. I mean, that's all I can read into it because free agency now is eight days old
11:53It was started a week ago the legal tampering period and if you add up everything that they've done to acquire players
12:01It's not that much. You got a new long snapper, which is kind of fun because the old long snapper apparently was
12:08Not somebody that you loved it was too young and you're paying the new
12:12Long snapper who's 39? Yeah, he's younger than LeBron and that's it. That's right
12:16That's the only athlete in America is younger than you're spending money on him
12:19You're giving him more money than the previous guy got and you brought in a new tight end
12:24which would be fun and you brought your full backpack after you cut him and
12:28the Kittles got really mad and
12:31Maybe Claire Kittle dude went knocked on their door. Nobody has been louder on social media than Claire Kittle
12:38Kristen juice check and
12:40Is it a Olivia?
12:43Coppola, what's her name?
12:44Kristen McCaffrey's girl those three families. I
12:48I
12:49Honestly think are gonna retire on an island together
12:52Apparently they love each other so much. I think they love them more than football in the 49ers itself
12:58like they have been just
13:01absolutely
13:03Incessant all over social media over this cow use check that and maybe that is a big reason why he came back
13:10Because probably the happiness of everyone involved, right? Yeah, you're listening to 95 7 the game
13:16KGM Z FM and HD 1 San Francisco and Odyssey Sports Station
13:20Always live on the free odyssey app and now coming to you live from the laughing monk
13:26Studios and we're thrilled to have laughing monk along for the ride and the ride is just about everything we do
13:31So I'm really excited about that. But yeah, this is just a this is another brick on the wall right now
13:39It's not a wall. That's that's firmly in place yet
13:41But it is another on the wall of confusion if you will I do not understand
13:48Now not only did the Niners lose Drake Greenlaw, but they really wanted Drake Greenlaw
13:53And once they signed the contract they still thought they had a chance to get Drake Gray Drake Greenlaw back to convince him
13:58Otherwise, which tells me they must have been offering him something in the same sort of arena as what Denver offered him
14:05And he still said no
14:06Yeah, like that's what concerns me because when I think this is kind of our the
14:12Fear that Giants fans have had the last few years
14:15The idea that people don't want to be there. How could Dre Greenlaw not want to come back?
14:23Yeah, maybe he wants to try something on his own
14:26this is something that you said last week or the week before like
14:29You know you get to a certain spot in your career and you want to be the man you want to be the linebacker
14:34and I don't know if that would be the case, but I
14:38Don't know what the situation is with the 49ers and how it all went
14:42He only played in what two quarters last year, and then they shut him down again
14:46And so there's got to be more to it than just the money
14:49But I'm surprised to hear that Adam Schefter
14:52Sound that the Niners tried to try to get him to flip back and come back to the 49ers
14:57Is that what we're doing in free agency like we're not going out there and bringing in a lot of players
15:02we're not spending a lot of money and
15:05One of our guys who leaves well now we're gonna get a little desperate trying to bring him back
15:09I will tell you this if you want to take your concern to another level with the way free agency is gone
15:14I do I do think this and
15:16and this is
15:18based on some conversations
15:22We all talk about like what's the 49ers plan
15:26Not this
15:28This was not the plan
15:31This was not planning
15:33It's not going well
15:35It's not going the way they set out for it to go
15:38So for those of you are like well John Lynch said at the combine
15:42You know, this is what we're gonna do and now they're doing it
15:46Well, I don't think that they were going to be doing it to this level
15:51Something has not gone
15:52well for the Niners that caused them to kind of take what they were gonna do a little bit of to start doing a
15:59lot of it and
16:01So that's that's kind of worrisome to me. Yes, then if things aren't going according to plan
16:08Then you got a pivot and I don't really see much of a pivot now
16:12We have this news to where you trade Jordan Mason to Minnesota
16:16And so they put a second round tender on him
16:18Meaning if somebody wanted to sign him the Niners would have to get a second round pick from that team
16:24So the value I thought would be commensurate with that but Minnesota
16:30Basically gives them a six-round pick in next year's draft and they swapped from
16:35187 to 160 in this year's draft
16:38So you move up 27 spots and you get an additional six for next year and you give up your running back insurance
16:46To Minnesota, that's one that I don't well get that either. I mean, maybe they maybe they really like Durando, you know
16:53They probably didn't want to pay Jordan Mason who's got what he had seven million
16:58Seven million fully guaranteed right? I think two years and twelve seven fully guaranteed six mil, which
17:05Yeah, I'm still Robert and Martinez. Hey Robert. Thanks for calling. What's up?
17:10Hey, how you guys doing?
17:13So there's actually two things I kind of want to bring up
17:16I think with the Drake green law thing a big thing that I think nobody's really talking about
17:21I remember a few years ago reading an article that he wanted to be the guy
17:25He wanted to be the number one linebacker and I think it was more about that
17:30He wanted to lead a linebacker room and he was never gonna be able to do that with Warner here
17:37You might well be right Robert. Yeah, go ahead and
17:41Then the other point I have I think a lot of the moves the players that went out
17:45I think they were kind of expected and I think a big thing that they're doing this year is right now
17:50They have a little over 80 million dollars in dead cap. And I think with the party deal that's coming
17:57I think they decided to do the dead cap this year to free up more room for next year
18:04Robert I you sound like you've done a lot of reading on this because I think you have some really good points
18:10The problem I have with it is let me let me take everything. You just said as fact and thanks Robert
18:16Appreciate it and I still don't think it comforts Niner fans where we sit right now
18:22It just like it doesn't add up to this level
18:26You can't have this many open holes on your team as you enter the draft if you're planning to win
18:33If you bet that's all I'm not even like if you want to go deal by deal and player by player
18:39You're right. I can understand why someone went. Well that guy underperformed. We don't want to pay him that guy underperformed
18:45Let's let him go all the Dre Greenlaw thing
18:47David Lombardi is reporting that this was almost like it was for Robert Sala who was adamant that they get Dre Greenlaw back and they
18:55Tried like crazy, but sorry didn't get him and maybe it is because Dre just wanted to run his own shop
19:00And that's why he decided to leave the 49ers like we can come up with answers for every single one of these individuals
19:07Collectively though. Here's where it leaves the Niners
19:09You have about seven holes and that's too many when you get to the draft, right?
19:14And you know it well
19:15You've got a lot of players that you're looking to to step up and fill those roles Ricky Pearsall
19:20You're gonna have to be wide receiver one
19:23You don't have Iuke for who knows how long and Deebo's gone
19:26And so now Ricky we drafted you in the first round
19:29You got to be the man and you can look across the board at a lot of those positions
19:34Defensive line is a big one. And yeah, you're gonna go in the draft. It's a deep draft for
19:39defensive line edge rusher
19:41Interior you're gonna need to figure out how to get those guys and have them hit because right now you've got
19:48Evan Anderson with the Guardian cap. You've got gross Matos
19:52Jordan Elliott and you've got Kevin Givens and they got Nick Bosa
19:57Nice, but you need two or three more
20:01Legit players there and one of them needs to be a difference maker for sure
20:05I believe when you let Floyd go a guy who was a difference maker on passing downs eight and a half sacks
20:10You know, he was asked to do that and he did it pretty well
20:13So yeah, you have a lot of holes in what do you have 13 draft picks? I think 11, I think. Okay. Yeah 11
20:21Ryan and Danville Ryan. Hey, what's up?
20:25Hey, it's great to be on
20:28I know the 49ers, of course taking a lot of punches
20:32going back this past week, but
20:35You know, I got to give
20:37You know, I got to give the benefit of the doubt so, you know to my 49ers
20:42Because isn't it fair to say that the 49ers did not?
20:47Anticipate and foresee
20:48Their free agents being so covered
20:50I mean who could have thought Aaron Banks was gonna get 19 million you got who funded who got 15 million a year
20:56You got even Charveris Ward who I believe the Chiefs and the 49ers have used up the best of his years
21:02He got 20 million dollars a year from the Colts
21:05Um, so
21:08Being the strategic guy that I am
21:10There's no way that I would keep those guys
21:13Versus getting cap relief for the next several years as well as those count picks that are going to be netted from letting those guys go
21:22My estimation I think that the Kansas City Chiefs got the best of all the 49ers free agents
21:28was silent was signing a more because the more drafted in 21 and
21:34You know, he had a lot of treadle upon tires because he was a backup behind Trent Williams who played well in his relief
21:40so I
21:41Think the 49ers should should get a benefit of the doubt
21:46You know by letting these guys go but Ryan for me and thanks so much for the call for me
21:51It's not even about who they let go. It's the fact that they didn't replace any of them like those three names you brought up
21:58I don't think that they let them go because huge offers came in that they didn't see coming because I heard rumors
22:05For weeks leading up to free agency that those three guys were gonna be gone
22:09Everybody knew that Ward was gonna be gone
22:12Everybody guessed that that that Banks was gonna be gone and everybody guessed that who Funga was gonna be gone
22:18so I don't think that was a
22:20Function of their offer. I think the Niners were ready to move on from those guys and I'm okay with that if you replace them
22:25Well, they replaced them with guys that are gonna need to play
22:29Well, like Trey Brown an undrafted free agent corner out of Seattle and you've got Richie Grant
22:35Who's a safety who now these are guys who are gonna have to come in now and be good
22:39And if they are then then I'll be wrong. Yeah, I'm with you. Yeah
