00:00Now, Harvey Elliott's future at Liverpool looks promising, with the young talent continuing
00:08to develop into a key player under Arnie Schlott. His versatility and skill make him an exciting
00:14prospect for the club, and his contributions are expected to play a crucial role in Liverpool's
00:20ambitions. As the team pushes for their 20th English lead title, Elliott's potential
00:26will be integral to the club's efforts to maintain competitiveness at the top. I spoke
00:32to Will Rooney of Liverpool World to get the latest on the young player and their pursuit
00:37for the 20th league title.
00:42So Will, looking at a specific Liverpool player in Harvey Elliott, now obviously we mentioned
00:47his breakthrough season sort of last campaign, he was fantastic and Jurgen Klopp really sort
00:51of sung his praise throughout the season. I mean, under Arnie Schlott it's maybe been
00:56a bit more indifferent, a bit less game time here and there, but a huge goal away at PSG
01:02in the Champions League. I mean, where do you sort of see his future? I mean, well before
01:07we get into that, let's just start with Harvey Elliott and his time at Liverpool and his
01:12impact at the side. I mean, last season was fantastic for him. And then moving on forward,
01:17how do you sort of see his future developing in terms of being a Liverpool player?
01:24I don't think people realise how young Harvey Elliott is. He's still only 21 and he's played
01:31138 games as we speak for Liverpool. He reached 100 appearances quicker than Steven Gerrard
01:38did. I'm not saying... Steven Gerrard is arguably the greatest player that's ever played for
01:44Liverpool. Of course, he has injuries when he's a little bit younger. Steven Gerrard,
01:48Harvey Elliott, you forget him. He had that leg break when he was, what, 18 at the time?
01:56And he was starting, I think, his third successive game for Liverpool away at Leeds after a really
02:05good loan spell at Blackburn when he was only 17. And I say, yeah, it feels like he's been
02:11around the first team for years and he's still only 21, about to turn 22. So, look,
02:19I think that's testament to his ability and how precocious he has been as a footballer.
02:27Now, the challenge for Harvey Elliott is how does he go from being a talented youngster
02:36who a lot of people think has got plenty of potential but has some flaws in his game,
02:43how does he take it to the next step of becoming a regular starter at Liverpool? Because it's
02:48not an easy task. There have been plenty of players who've been in and around the first
02:54team and they just haven't made it because it is such a difficult step up to make. That's
03:00Harvey Elliott's next challenge. Has he been unlucky this season? A little bit, yeah, but
03:07Liverpool, as we speak, 15 points clear of the top of the Premier League. So, I don't
03:12think he can really moan his lack of game time. Maybe in recent weeks, yes, you could
03:18argue that, especially when Liverpool needs to rotate things. But it was a great moment
03:22for him at PSG. It could prove absolutely crucial if Liverpool were to go on and win
03:28the competition. But I think Harvey Elliott is now getting to the age where he will have
03:33to assess things, he will have to have some frank conversations in terms of his future,
03:38his role, because in the current system, I don't think there's an out-and-out role for him.
03:45There will obviously be a bit of a clear-out in the summer in terms of the uncertainty
03:50with a lot of players' contracts. Do you feel maybe that could play in his favour because
03:55players could be coming out of the side that have been favoured over him and he could maybe
04:00look at that and have a chat with Arnie Schlott and work a plan to make sure he gets more
04:05game time next season? Do you think that could possibly help his Liverpool tenure?
04:10Well, the two positions that he main plays in are No. 10 or right wing. Harvey Elliott
04:18says No. 10 is his favourite position. The right wing, if Mo Salah leaves, if he doesn't
04:25sign a new contract, is that a position for him? Stick around a couple more years, develop
04:30and get a little bit more stronger, a bit more powerful. And then if he's 24, 25 and
04:38he thinks, right, this isn't going to happen for me at Liverpool, then I will have to move on.
