00:00I want to provide an update on our investigation into the murder of Joanne Penny, following
00:08a shooting in Talbot Green on Sunday evening. Police were called to an address at Llys Illtyd
00:14at 6.10pm on Sunday, where Joanne was found seriously injured, having been shot to the
00:20chest.
00:22It's been a difficult week for people around here in Talbot Green, in a usually relatively
00:26quiet area. On Sunday 9th March, gunshots were heard and emergency services were called
00:31to an address just behind me here.
00:35Forty-year-old Joanne Penny was shot and killed and in the days that have followed, more information
00:40about the events and police investigation have surfaced, including a number of arrests
00:44of people from South Wales and from the Leicestershire area in the Midlands.
00:50With everything changing so quickly in this ongoing story, we've got an update on everything
00:54we know so far.
00:57Joanne Penny was shot in the chest at an address in Llys Illtyd last Sunday, with emergency
01:02services called to the scene at 6.10pm, but after the best efforts of ambulance staff,
01:07Ms Penny was unable to be saved and was pronounced dead at the scene.
01:12In the last few days, her family have paid tribute to Ms Penny, saying they are devastated
01:16by the tragic loss of their beloved Joanne. She was a daughter, mother, sister and niece,
01:21loved deeply by all who knew her. Her kindness, strength and love for her family will never
01:26be forgotten.
01:28During this incredibly difficult time, they ask for privacy as they grieve and begin to
01:32process the unimaginable loss. They appreciate and support the condolences from the community
01:38and kindly request that their family be given space to mourn in peace. They also have asked
01:43anyone with information regarding Joanne's death be reported to the police to assist
01:47in their investigation.
01:50In total, six people have been arrested on suspicion of murder by detectives from South
01:53Wales Police, and five of them remain in custody, including a 20-year-old man from the St Melon's
01:58area of Cardiff, a 21-year-old woman and 39-year-old woman, a 27-year-old man and a 68-year-old
02:04man, all from the Leicestershire area in the Midlands.
02:07A 42-year-old man from Talbot Green was arrested on Sunday and has been released without charge
02:12but has been bailed for further inquiries following an allegation of assault, the force
02:16said.
02:17The investigation, though, is still ongoing and police are looking into a number of different
02:21lines of inquiry.
02:25The investigation continues at pace and we are working hard to establish a motive for
02:31Joanne's killing. We are exploring several lines of inquiry, including the possibility
02:37that she was the victim of mistaken identity.
02:41I would urge anyone who has information, either about Joanne's death or what happened at the
02:46property, at least it did on Sunday evening, to do the right thing and please come forward.
02:52The smallest piece of information could be of vital importance.
