00:00Welcome to MEDIEN TV, books in this chronicle to talk about the last book by the writer
00:16and professor at the University of Seville, entitled El Andalus, Orient in the West, initiated
00:21by the embassy of Spain in Morocco in collaboration with the Institut Cervantes de Rabat.
00:27This conference is part of a series of meetings to shed light on the common Spanish-Moroccan heritage
00:35from different angles.
00:37Spain, formerly called Iberia, then Hispania, was largely formed from the Mediterranean,
00:45and it is on this basis that Emilio González Ferín develops the thesis that he presents
00:50in the pages of this book.
00:51He affirms that this sea has, among the continuity of the Greco-Latin civilization of Antiquity,
00:58and that it has maintained, in El Andalus, one of the most advanced cultures of its time
01:04and a piece of the Orient in the West, thanks to a kind of cultural homogeneity created along
01:11its banks.
01:12We listen to the Spanish writer Emilio González Ferín.
01:17I wanted to share with the Moroccan public this notion of neighborhood, this medieval
01:24way of life that existed during the El Andalus era and that is part of this great community
01:32of Dar al-Islam, a magnificent and great community that does not belong to any religion and that
01:40was the symbol of cultural cohabitation.
01:44I believe that Morocco and Spain know an exceptional moment because we have understood
01:50that we have the same interests, the same geographical situation and the same problems.
01:55It is therefore more interesting to address these difficulties from the same point of view.
02:04The book El Andalus, the Orient in the West, highlights the Arab perspective and its influence
02:10on Europe.
02:11In this book, Emilio González Ferín proposes to make a diversified reading, far from
02:17mystification and academicism.
02:20For him, this new essay aims to highlight the history of El Andalus as being an
02:25integral part of the history of Spain.
02:28Emilio González Ferín has many articles and a dozen monographs on themes of cultural
02:35cooperation with the Arab world.
02:37I suggest you listen to Anastasio Sanchez Zamorano.
02:41He is the director of the Cervantes Institute in Oraba and Enrique Ojeda Vila, he is the
02:46ambassador of Spain to Morocco.
02:48We listen to them.
02:52For a long time, the impact of El Andalus has always been presented by the European prism.
02:58This book, El Andalus, the Orient in the West, highlights the Arab perspective and its
03:05influence on Europe.
03:07It is a completely different perspective from what we know, hence the importance of dialogue
03:13between neighboring countries and the countries of the two banks, between Europe and Africa,
03:18between Spain and Morocco, and hence the importance of these meetings.
03:29This detailed book highlights with great attention and merit the contributions of the Orient
03:35to Western civilization, especially in the scientific and linguistic fields, while
03:41emphasizing the place of the Arab as a refined language and its role in learning and knowledge.
03:49And this era of El Andalus unites Morocco and Spain, and it is also the basis that
03:54allows us today to have these relations between our two countries, solid and stable relations.
04:03And music now, and a stay in the Moroccan Andalusian atmosphere, with the Mujeres Mediterraneas
04:11training, Mediterranean Women, which took place in Marrakech within the emblematic
04:16Palais Berria, and this in the context of the Ramadanian evenings of the Servantes Institute
04:21in the city of Ocre.
04:22The training was able to embark the public on a musical journey, unique in its genre,
04:28gratifying the assistance of a harmonious mixture of flamenco coplas with songs inspired
04:35by the ancestral transitions of the Mediterranean.
04:38The musicians and singers of this musical ensemble, created in 2015, managed to fuse
04:43brilliantly the rhythms of flamenco, whose songs are characterized by a strong and emotional
04:49sound with Arab melodies, which reflect the history of the Mediterranean basin of Spain
04:55in Morocco.
04:56I suggest you listen to Habiba Chaouf, she is a singer and a member of the group, and
05:00Pilar Alonso, she is the guitarist of the group.
05:10The music of our group is essentially based on two musical genres, the Arab song and
05:16flamenco, two musical styles that have a lot in common, including rhythms, melodies
05:23and composition.
05:25It is a heritage that we have been sharing for centuries now, since the time of Andalus.
05:35It is a pleasure and a great joy to play here with the other members of the group in Marrakech,
05:41in this magnificent and magical space of the Palais Berria.
05:45An opportunity for us to share with the public our culture of flamenco, very close to
05:51Arabic music, similarities and fusions that can be perceived by listening to our concerts.
05:59Thank you, dear viewers, for your loyalty.
06:02The information continues on our different channels, Median TV Arabic, Median TV Africa,
06:06Median TV Maghreb and of course on our digital media, medianews.com.
