Cloudy conditions over much of Northern Ireland, Wales, western Scotland and the southwest of England this afternoon, with the odd shower possible in these areas. Orkney and the Shetland Islands may also see some outbreaks of rain as a frontal band continues its way northeastwards. Much of the rest of the UK should remain dry however with sunshine, hazy at times. Feeling quite warm for this time of the year. - This is the Met Office UK Weather forecast for the morning of 08/03/2025. Bringing you today’s weather forecast is Greg Dewhurst.

00:00Hello there, welcome to your latest Met Office forecast. It's generally a warm picture across
00:06the whole of the UK. If we look at the bigger picture, low pressure dominates Iberia at
00:12the moment bringing unsettled weather to parts of Spain and Portugal in particular. But at
00:17the same time, we've got south easterly winds across the UK. So it is drawing in this much
00:22warm air, temperatures well above average for the time of year. It remains that way
00:26for the rest of the weekend. However, next week it's all changed. High pressure builds
00:30across Iceland and Greenland. We see northerly winds develop and pushes Arctic air southwards
00:36across much of the country. So by Tuesday, temperatures back down to average if not a
00:40little below average with the risk of some wintry showers across parts of the north.
00:44So a real change is on the way. Here's a satellite picture and radar image from earlier today.
00:51We do have some shower outbreaks of rain across the far southwest. This is starting to weaken
00:55and a few showers elsewhere as well. But you can see plenty of dry weather, some hazy
01:00spells of sunshine, best of the blue skies at the moment across the far east. And as
01:04we go through Saturday afternoon into the evening time, very little change. Cloudier
01:09skies for parts of Wales into the West Country, perhaps western parts of the Midlands, central
01:13southern England. The odd shower is possible, but plenty of dry weather, lots of sunshine.
01:19Yes, it will be hazy at times, but many places dry. The odd shower possible for Northern
01:24Ireland and parts of Scotland as well. A weather front close by across northern Scotland
01:29giving some showery outbreaks of rain to Orkney and Shetland in particular. Winds coming in
01:34from the southeast, as I mentioned, so a warm direction as the continent is warming up at
01:39this time of year. 17, 18, possibly 19 Celsius across north Wales into northwest England.
01:44A little chillier along some eastern coast with that breeze. And the southwest as well,
01:48gusts here around 30 miles an hour. I might just take the edge off the temperatures a
01:52little, but 7 to 11 Celsius is generally where we should be at this time of the year.
01:57Through to the evening time, the odd shower is still possible, moving up from the south,
02:00but many places dry. As we head into the early hours, winds generally fall light away from
02:05the far southwest where it's still a little breezy. We could see some mist and fog patches
02:09developing, particularly across central southern parts of Scotland into northeast England as
02:15well, perhaps around the Moray Firth area as well. And this weather front also giving
02:18some showering outbreaks of rain across the far north, but for many, a dry night to come.
02:22Under the clear skies, temperatures dropping away just like we've seen the last few nights,
02:27getting into single figures, perhaps close to freezing in one or two prone spots. The
02:31west generally holding up 7 or 8 degrees Celsius to start Sunday morning. Plenty of sunshine,
02:37so mist and fog across the east of Scotland, northeast Scotland, northeast England as well,
02:43but this slowly burning back to the coast as we go through the morning. And then plenty
02:47of sunshine, dry weather to come for the vast majority of the UK. The sunshine will be hazy
02:52at times across the far southwest, but many places dry. The weather front still across
02:56the far north of Scotland, parts of the Western Isles, the Highlands and Islands, just seeing
03:00one or two splashes of rain, the most persistent rain likely across Shetland through the day
03:04and winds generally light for all. In the sunshine, it will be another warm feeling
03:09day for this time of year, 18, 19, possibly 20 Celsius towards northwest England, just
03:14chillier along some eastern coast once more. And if you do get stuck under any low cloud
03:18and fog, temperatures will struggle here to get into double figures. But for most, a brilliant
03:24Sunday to come. Plenty of sunshine, the UV levels starting to rise a little as well.
03:29So we're heading to the evening time. This is the start of the change. This weather front
03:33just starts to slowly push its way southwards and that will push southwards through next
03:37week, introducing that much colder air. So for the weekend, plenty of warm weather to
03:42come, lots of sunshine for the vast majority, but turning much colder into next week. For
