The majority of the UK remains under cloud for this afternoon period, with western Scotland receiving the most breaks in the cloud. Rain continues to be brought in from the east, with sleet possible across much of the east of the UK and hill snow in hilly areas. Drier in western parts of the UK but with the odd shower possible. A frontal system will also bring further outbreaks of rain to the southeast of England. Temperatures slightly below average for this time of year, making it feel rather chilly - This is the Met Office UK Weather forecast for the afternoon of 10/02/2025. Bringing you today’s weather forecast is Alex Burkill.

00:00Hello, it's pretty grey, murky, gloomy out there today. It's also fairly chilly as well,
00:06all because whilst we do have high pressure nearby, it's sat just to the northeast of
00:11us and as a result it is bringing an easterly wind in. As we've discussed in other output,
00:17the easterly wind isn't as cold as you might normally expect at this time of year. Nonetheless,
00:22it is bringing a chilly feel to things and lots of cloud, even some rain, sleet and snow
00:26over some places. There's also a system that's going to affect parts of the southeast as
00:31we go through this evening, so a bit of rain, sleet and snow for a time and then as we go
00:34through tomorrow and into Wednesday, there's another system coming up from the southwest
00:38so we could have some rain affecting some southwestern parts for a time but generally,
00:43we're sticking with the largely cloudy theme with our air coming in from the east. Taking
00:47a look at a bit more detail and here's the picture for this afternoon and across eastern
00:52parts there will be some rain, some sleet, some hill snow, particularly over the Pennines
00:56and any higher ground across parts of Scotland. But also, as I mentioned, in the southeast
01:01we are having a system pushing its way in so we could see some rain is quite likely
01:05and also some sleet and perhaps a bit of snow for a time this evening, albeit it's only
01:10going to be light and shouldn't cause any problems. The best of any sunshine through
01:13today will be across western parts of Scotland. Here, it's actually looking pretty bright.
01:17Otherwise, lots of cloud around. The further west you are, the greater chance you have
01:21of avoiding any showery rain, sleet and hill snow. Temperatures are a bit below average
01:26for the time of year and when you're stuck under the cloud and you factor in that easterly
01:29breeze, even though the wind's not especially strong, it is going to make it feel pretty
01:34chilly nonetheless. As we go through this evening, like I mentioned, we do have some
01:38wet weather across parts of the southeast. That starts to clear away. We keep with some
01:42showers coming in from the east and they will readily be falling as sleet or hill snow over
01:47any modest higher ground, some of them pushing a bit further westwards. Across western parts
01:52of Scotland, I'm expecting a bit more cloud through tonight than we saw last night. So
01:55temperatures got to around minus seven, minus eight last night. It's not going to be as
01:59cold through this coming night. Most places just about holding up a few degrees above
02:04freezing, but rural spots where we do get any clear skies, we are going to see a touch
02:09of frost developing. So a chilly start and a grey start for most of us through Tuesday
02:13morning. Also a bit damp towards eastern parts, still some outbreaks of rain, sleet
02:18and hill snow, particularly across parts of eastern Scotland, northeast England. Elsewhere,
02:23any shower rebirths are going to be pretty isolated as we go through the day. Staying
02:27cloudy for most of us, though, some glimmers of sunshine breaking out to the lee of high
02:30ground. So to the west of high ground, particularly across western parts of Scotland, perhaps
02:34the odd break further south as well. Like I mentioned, there is a system coming in from
02:38the southwest, so we may see some rain pushing into parts of Cornwall as we go through the
02:42afternoon and into the evening. Temperatures are looking similar today, perhaps a touch
02:47higher for some of us, but with some slightly lighter winds across the south in particular,
02:52it may feel slightly less chilly for most of us. Now as we go through much of the rest
02:57of this week, the cloudy theme continues. It is going to stay pretty cloudy, quite murky
03:01at times, and with that also fairly cold. As a result, we could see some further rain,
03:06sleet and snow. Showers most likely towards the north, rain most likely towards the southwest
03:12of the UK. But if you want more information about that, then do head to our YouTube channel
03:16where you will be able to get our week ahead forecast with Anna later on this afternoon.
03:20I'll see you again soon. Bye bye.
