00:00Let's update on the hearing of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board on the petition to raise the minimum fare in jeeps to Php15.
00:08We will talk to Director Joel Bulano, Technical Division Chief of LTFRB. Good morning and welcome to Balitang Hali.
00:15Good morning Raffy and to all the listeners of Balitang Hali.
00:19Has the LTFRB decided on the fare hike petition in jeeps?
00:24Not yet Raffy. This morning, the hearing of our petition was held by our PLJ operators.
00:34Earlier, they were given the direction of our board to submit their updated position paper which they will submit on Friday, February 28.
00:49What are the major considerations of the LTFRB when it comes to raising the minimum fare in jeeps to Php15?
00:55First of all, it is a matter of fuel. That is one consideration.
01:00Second, we need to get input from our agency and our commuter groups.
01:10When we combine this, it also includes the study of our planning division in LTFRB
01:16so we can get other basic increases in the parts of the operation of our public transport.
01:28Those are the inputs that we need to combine so when the board makes a decision, it is balanced.
01:37It is up to the LTFRB board to make this beneficial not only to our operators but also to our passengers.
01:45Of course, this will have a big effect. When will the LTFRB make a decision on this?
01:51We have a hearing on March 8, Raffy. We have set another hearing for the position paper that our petitioner will submit on February 28.
02:05After that, when we get all the inputs that our board needs, we will deliberate.
02:11Hopefully, we will have a decision after the deliberation.
02:15Will the LTFRB make a decision on raising the minimum fare or there are subsidies that can be given to the operators and drivers of jeeps?
02:24What the LTFRB is asking for now is only about raising the fare or their petition for the fare increases.
02:34As for our subsidies, our government still has plans for 2025 for the fuel subsidy program of our government for 2025.
02:48It's not just the jeeps of the operators that are asking for fare hike, right?
02:51How about those who are asking for fare hike for buses and taxis?
02:57Yes. As for buses, the LTFRB is still listening and they have also set to present their position papers in the next hearing
03:08so that they will have enough reasons to increase their fare.
03:14You mentioned one of the major considerations, raising the fuel price, right?
03:19Now, it's increasing. Even if it's decreasing, it's still small.
03:23How big is the possibility of approving the 15 pesos fare hike petition?
03:28Actually, that's just one of the board's basis.
03:33That's why we can't say now. We don't want to preempt the board's decision.
03:38But again, increasing the fuel price is one of the board's consideration.
03:44Okay. Thank you very much Director Joel Bulano, Technical Division Chief of the LTFRB.
