00:00As we near the end of the US presidential election race, one of the questions that many
00:08are asking is what President Joe Biden's legacy will be.
00:12It looks like it would be rather mixed, like it would be perhaps for many leaders, simply
00:17because Joe Biden has had a long and distinguished career in American politics.
00:21The way he's handled himself with grace and dignity in the face of so much personal adversity
00:26has been quite remarkable.
00:28He represents a generation of politicians who believed in civility and reached across
00:33the aisle when needed.
00:35Of course, these are very different, very polarizing times, particularly in America
00:39at the moment.
00:40And Joe Biden was in danger of completely damaging his reputation and his legacy until
00:45he actually stepped aside for Kamala Harris when it was apparently and painfully clear
00:50that his health would not permit him to continue to do so.
00:54When he finally did, the Democrats heaved a sigh of relief.
00:57And now they look back on his record, perhaps he will get more credit later for the kind
01:03of steps he took to revive the economy, particularly after the pandemic.
01:08The fact is that America was able to create a number of jobs, including after Covid.
01:15He didn't get enough credit for that.
01:16And perhaps history will be kinder when it judges him on that particular issue.
01:20But on immigration and particularly illegal border crossings, which have become such a
01:24huge issue in this presidential election, it's not been a good track record for Mr.
01:28Biden.
01:29And his foreign policy in particular has been so divisive and something that has been called
01:33out all over the world, particularly his staunch support for Israel and America's moral backing
01:38of a regime that's essentially undertaken a genocide against Palestinians in Gaza.
01:44Therefore, he will be judged for not taking a stronger moral position on Israel.
01:49And although he's credited with strengthening NATO and giving unwavering support to Ukraine,
01:55the American withdrawal from Afghanistan is another huge blot in Joe Biden's legacy and
02:00the chaos that it left behind.
02:03Perhaps history will be kinder to him one day, but for now, this is the mixed legacy
02:08Mr. Biden leaves behind.
