00:00We'll talk to Lexie Dormitorio live in the studio.
00:04Despite her young age of 16 years old, she's already making noise in mountain bike competitions.
00:11Lexie, welcome to PTV Sports.
00:13Thank you so much. You're very welcome.
00:17Okay, let's start with your journey, Lexie.
00:20How did you become a part of the mountain bike team?
00:26Ever since, it's been part of our family.
00:29I have an older sister and she's raised very professionally.
00:34So, ever since, I've looked up to her growing up.
00:37So, that became my surroundings.
00:43But for you, of all sports, why did you choose cycling?
00:51It's been part of our family growing up.
00:55So, we've really been passionate about cycling ever since.
01:02So, it's more like a natural thing that I chose.
01:07Like I was born to bike. That's how I feel.
01:11What exactly about this sport hooked you?
01:15Like you said, you're born into this business.
01:23Your dad is your coach and your sister is competing.
01:29But personally, what's your connection to mountain biking?
01:34So, even if you expected to go here, it still had a special connection to you.
01:42It's definitely the thrill that I look for while I'm racing or while I'm just riding my bike on trails.
01:49There's that feeling in my heart that I really love this.
01:54I love riding my bike. I love the feeling I get when I'm riding my bike.
01:58When I'm racing, I love it when I'm racing.
02:01So, it's really just the love and the thrill that really got me attached to it.
02:08What about the cycling community? How is it for you?
02:13It's a great community. Everybody knows everyone and you can really trust.
02:19It's a kind community. You can trust them. They're fun to be around.
02:24Most of my friends, they're all biking.
02:33Like you said earlier, you're a family of cyclists.
02:37Your father is your coach.
02:39We saw your little sister here. She also rides, right?
02:42Yes, she does.
02:44Do you think you have a healthy amount of sibling rivalry that pushes you all?
02:49Oh, definitely.
02:51Aries is my number one competition when it comes to training, even on races.
02:57She pushes me a lot. Sometimes, she's stronger than me.
03:02On climbs, definitely.
03:04It's great that she's my number one competition.
03:08It's a healthy competition. It really pushes you.
03:12It's great when someone pushes you during training.
03:16It's great. I love it.
03:18I can relate to that part.
03:20Although, we're not pro-athletes.
03:23When my younger sister and I play basketball,
03:27I used to call her mama.
03:30But when she learned how to do it, she'd do it to me.
03:34I didn't like that.
03:36When Aries was small, I used to leave her.
03:39Now, she's leaving me.
03:43But of course, there are things that we know about.
03:47Do you feel bad about it?
03:49For you, of course, you know that you'll be able to push yourself more.
03:54It's sport when it comes.
03:56We both know that.
03:58This is all just sport.
04:00It's part of our training. It's part of our sport.
04:03We've grown up like that.
04:06All your life, you've been training and competing.
04:12Can you share your experiences behind the scenes that our viewers can't see?
04:18What are the sacrifices that you make?
04:21What's your day-to-day like?
04:24Something that casual viewers can't see.
04:31I wouldn't say there would be any sacrifices.
04:34If you love what you're doing, nothing is a sacrifice.
04:38It's your basic routine.
04:41You train for 2-3 hours a day.
04:45You're on the road.
04:47We love what we're doing.
04:50We're really passionate about it.
04:52I wouldn't say there's any sort of sacrifice.
04:55Can you elaborate?
04:58What does a typical day look like for you when you have training?
05:01You start by waking up.
05:03What do you do throughout the day?
05:06I wake up.
05:08Right now, my routine is...
05:11I'm a growing child, so sleep is important.
05:15Right now, my sleep is...
05:18I wake up around 10 a.m.
05:20Then, I ride my bike in the afternoon.
05:22That's my routine.
05:24But sometimes, it's different.
05:26Sometimes, you have to wake up early in the morning.
05:28Part of our program is we have to go on a 100 plus km ride.
05:34We really have to wake up early for that.
05:37If you ride at 1 p.m., you'll be home by night.
05:41So, it's not really safe.
05:43I train 6 times a week.
05:46I have one rest day.
05:48It's really just a bike.
05:51Can you tell us your secret?
05:53How do you adjust?
05:55Of course, there are schools.
05:57How do you adjust?
06:00I'm homeschooled, actually.
06:02I choose my schedule.
06:04It's either I do it before I bike or after I bike.
06:08Lexie, you recently participated in a tournament where you won the gold medal here in Thailand.
06:15Can you just tell us about the experience?
06:18I love that experience.
06:20It wasn't my first out-of-the-country race.
06:24I had one back in 2019.
06:27I think I was around 12 years old at that time.
06:29That was in Malaysia.
06:31I joined the under 12.
06:34It was also a UCI race.
06:37But my category wasn't for UCI yet.
06:39But for Thailand, I loved it.
06:42It was actually pretty cold there.
06:44I was shocked that it was cold.
06:46It was around 15 degrees.
06:49I learned a lot on the track.
06:54It's a really nice track.
06:55The people there were super kind.
06:58For my race, it was a great race.
07:02I had a really big lead.
07:04I had a pretty big lead from the girl who got second place.
07:10It was also pretty cool because when we reviewed my race data,
07:18usually when it's an XCO race,
07:22you're usually going on zone 4 to zone 5 heart rate all throughout.
07:28I was going more on zone 3 all throughout.
07:32Definitely, if I had a lot more competitors,
07:35I would definitely be racing faster.
07:37For the track, I loved the track.
07:40It wasn't as hard as the tracks that we have here.
07:44I wouldn't say it was easy.
07:47My dad really trained me to be really skillful on the trail.
07:53I was prepared for anything, for the big jumps, for the rough descents.
08:00We didn't have to take a lot of time to learn the track.
08:06I just really rode the track a few times to memorize it.
08:09It was a great experience.
08:12Lexie, in your gold medal finish, we got UCI points.
08:17Can you share with us the big UCI points that you got here in Tainan?
08:23The points I got, I think that was around 20 points.
08:27That's a lot because it was a C1 race.
08:31For the UCI points, it's a leaderboard.
08:35Right now, the top 10 on the leaderboard are mostly in Europe.
08:42Those are the big girls that are always racing on UCI races.
08:49There are a lot of UCI races there.
08:51Right now, what are your UCI points?
08:54Right now, it's my first race.
08:56Right now, I think my points are still at 20 points.
08:59We're going to try to race a lot more abroad.
09:03Race a lot more UCI races too.
09:06Maybe, hopefully, I can reach the top 10.
09:10Hopefully, I can reach the top 10 UCI points by UCI leaderboard by the end of the year.
09:16We'll ask about that later.
09:18But since we're bringing up Lexie, let's ask her.
09:21You talked about the upcoming competitions that you plan to join this year.
09:25You said that you want to be more active to increase your points.
09:29What are the competitions that you plan to join this year?
09:33March, there's this race at Pasi City.
09:41It's the Asia MPB Series.
09:44I think that's the race.
09:46It's also UCI.
09:47But what I'm really looking forward to is this May.
09:51It's in Japan.
09:52It's in Yawatahama.
09:54It's a bigger race.
09:57It has more points.
10:00Maybe, by the end of the year, June to the end of the year, I can join a race in Europe.
10:07Have you already surveyed the tracks that you're going to race?
10:13Is it your first time?
10:16Yes, it's my first time.
10:17But my dad has been there with my older sister.
10:19So, he's really familiar how to get there and how the track is like.
10:23So, that's a big advantage.
10:25Do you have a partner?
10:26It's like a Go For Gold Race Series this year.
10:29It's also a UCI section event.
10:32Do you have a plan?
10:34I think that's road bike.
10:38I'm not sure if I would be joining any road bike races.
10:43So, you don't have a plan yet?
10:45Purely mountain bike.
10:48We know that mountain bike is a partner.
10:51It's also a physically grueling sport.
10:54So, when you're training and competing, what are the usual injuries that you get?
11:05Do you have any major injuries that you experience or avoid?
11:11Mostly, it's just a wound.
11:14I have a lot of scars.
11:15But I haven't experienced anything worse.
11:19I had one.
11:20I just got sprained while I was mounting my bike.
11:24I rested for a week.
11:27But mostly, it's just a wound on my knees and elbows.
11:32Mostly, it's just a scrape.
11:33I don't have any broken bones.
11:36What is the most memorable experience for you?
11:39Other than the international competition in Thailand,
11:42do you have other local tournaments that you joined?
11:46What is the most memorable for you?
11:49They're all very memorable.
11:51All of my races, especially Nationals 2022.
11:56That was my first ever Nationals race.
12:01I won on women's youth.
12:06And the next day, I joined the women's junior, which I also won.
12:10So, it kind of turned into a double gold National champion win.
12:15It was a really nice experience.
12:17Especially, it was my first big race.
12:20It wasn't my first big race, but it was my first UCI Nationals race.
12:24Do you have any idols that you look forward to racing with?
12:32They're all in Europe.
12:33And they're all super strong.
12:37My number one idol ever since has been Yolanda Neff.
12:41And now, I'm really idolizing Poc Peters.
12:45She's great.
12:47I really look up to her.
12:49And of course, there's Pauline Ferrand-Pervaux.
12:52She's a multi-world championship medalist.
12:56She has a lot of medals.
12:57I can't even keep up.
13:00Lexie, I'm sure one of your goals is to become an official part of the seniors team of our National team.
13:07Our question is, do you already have conversations to be a part of the team?
13:13And if you can share, how did those conversations go?
13:20Right now, we don't have any conversations yet.
13:23My dad doesn't have any plans yet for me to join the National team.
13:30Right now, our plan is really to keep it private.
13:33Because my dad has already been in the National team.
13:38And for him, his best decision is to keep our competitions, our plans, really private to us.
13:46And other of our sponsorships.
13:50But yeah, nothing as of now.
13:52But without being secretive, what is your personal goal in cycling?
14:02It would be to race once.
14:05Not once.
14:06It would be to travel around the world to just race.
14:11Especially World Cup.
14:13That's my number one goal right now.
14:15World Cup.
14:16And then maybe in the future, World Championships if possible.
14:19And maybe even be able to join the Olympics.
14:23That's my ultimate goal.
14:25That's really the Olympics.
14:27That's like, for me, that's the top spot in my entire career.
14:34Our goal to enter the Olympics someday.
14:38When did you have that vision?
14:42When did you want to go to the Olympics?
14:46It's definitely when Ms. Heidelin Diaz won.
14:50That was like, wow, oh my God, she did it.
14:53And you know, the recent win of Sir Carlos Ullo.
14:56That was, I almost cried when, she did it.
15:00Especially when she won two gold medals.
15:02That was amazing.
15:04Super inspiring for her.
15:06I was very inspired.
15:07I thought, she did it.
15:09We did it.
15:12It definitely opened my dreams.
15:17It opened it a lot more.
15:18I thought Olympics was such a big, big thing.
15:21It's so far away.
15:23But yeah, it's definitely something that I will work on.
15:27Did you get a chance to meet any of those two, Ms. Heidelin or Carlos?
15:31No, but it's my dream to.
15:33I would love to ask them a few questions.
15:36But no, not yet.
15:38But sooner or later, right?
15:40Yeah, hopefully.
15:41Give me your number, partner.
15:42I'm right after you.
15:44Hopefully.
15:45Of course, maybe daddy knows.
15:47Yeah, maybe.
15:48But before we say goodbye, Lexie,
15:51do you have a message to your fans,
15:54to the people who supported you?
15:56Now's the time to give them your message.
15:59Hi, everyone.
16:01Thank you so much for all of the support.
16:03Your support is so important to me.
16:07I wake up every day and train and race.
16:10Then, especially, I would like to thank my family.
16:13And of course, I would like to thank God.
16:15We really all surrender everything to Him.
16:18And yeah, I'm so thankful to each and every one of you.
16:21Thank you so much.
16:24All right.
16:25That was Lexie Dormitorio.
