UP fends off gritty UE in opener of UAAP 87 women's volleyball

The UP Fighting Maroons got their act together in time to fend off the gritty UE Lady Warriors, 25-18, 26-24, 24-26, 13-25, 15-13, in the UAAP Season 87 women's volleyball opener at the Mall of Asia Arena on Feb. 15, 2025. Joan Monares pumped 17 points and logged 11 excellent digs to lead the Fighting Maroons, who gave former La Salle assistant coach Benson Bocboc a winning start to his UP head coaching gig.

00:00To the UP Highland Maroons for being the UP Ladies Warriors and Palisades, we have Tobe, Benson Tumpok, Ian O'Nando, and Joanne Manas.
00:12Tobe, congratulations for your speech, your thoughts about your East performance today.
00:17You fall back on a 0-2 set, but you were able to prove yourself.
00:30We're still looking forward to it because we need to be able to tell them the first game of the season.
00:42Of course, the community is usually excited. The players don't know what to expect.
00:50We also don't know if there will be any changes in the community since the players are not there.
00:56We don't know what they will do. Later on, they will be part of the team and I will be a part of it.
01:06Good thing we were able to win the game.
01:26You
