UAE residents pack Pakistan flood relief boxes

Hundreds of volunteers from across the UAE on Saturday spent their weekend packing thousands of boxes containing various food items, hygiene kits and other essential items for immediate distribution to families affected by the ongoing crisis brought about by floods in Pakistan. 00:00The situation in Pakistan is very bad. We have a country as big as Pakistan geographically.

00:18One third of their land is under water today. You're talking about 33 million people are

00:23being affected, over 1,000 people dead. Women, girls, children are severely affected.

00:30The UAE has always been a leader into this cause and these kind of efforts.

00:34We as Dubai Cares, we thought differently. We said, let us work closely with other NGOs

00:39here in the UAE. As a phase one, we have partnered with the UAE Red Crescent and Sharjah Charity

00:45to get volunteers to pack FMB and hygiene kits to ship them to Pakistan. We're working

00:50very closely, the three agencies, with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry

00:54of Community Development. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs are working closely with the

00:58Pakistani government to tell us what are the specifications that are needed. The Ministry

01:02of Community Development are getting the volunteers also to support us. We have our own network

01:06of volunteers as well. The plan is to get everything packed, thousands of volunteers

01:11in three centres, Adnik, Expo Dubai and Expo Sharjah has also come to give us those free

01:18spaces and we're aiming to get thousands of boxes shipped immediately to Pakistan and

01:23the Pakistani government will take these boxes and distribute them to all the families that

01:27have been affected with this crisis. It's really important here to support Pakistan,

01:32being able to provide the goods they need in this very difficult situation. I'm just

01:36very, very happy and proud to be here with this amazing team and people to be able to

01:41support them in this very peculiar time for them. We're here today to give back and the

01:46UAE always put on the most amazing initiatives. If you look around, there's people from all

01:51different cultures, all different backgrounds coming together for one cause. Yeah, we saw

01:55the devastating floods in Pakistan and when we saw the initiative that the UAE and Dubai

02:01cares were putting together, we thought what better way to spend a Saturday than to come

02:06and give back and help those less fortunate. Everyone in Pakistan is suffering through

02:11the floods and I hope they all stay high and we are with them, UAE is with them in Pakistan.
