00:00Alright, so I'm Ross Kerridge, I'm the Lord Mayor of Newcastle, and we're in the top level
00:11of Newcastle City Hall, and this area behind us there is the Council Chambers, the traditional
00:17Council Chambers, and in here is the Lord Mayor's office and Lord Mayor's reception
00:23room for this building, and I think we've got this wonderful building as a way of showing
00:29off the best of Newcastle, and I'm very proud of it.
00:33So part of the function of a City Hall, and indeed a Lord Mayor, is to impress people
00:40from elsewhere, particularly visiting organisations, corporates, whatever.
00:45And one of the things I've learned in my career is that people from overseas, particularly
00:50Asian cultures, are impressed by older buildings with substance, and that's what this is.
00:58And I'm proud of Newcastle's history, I'm excited about its future, but looking in this
01:04office and I've got the view over the Civic Park, the fountain, and the office was a bit
01:14unloved when I came, and we had to touch up some paintwork, and there were some old prints
01:24but they weren't very interesting.
