00:00I'm so excited to share with you that our pavilion is the only pavilion in Expo 2020 Dubai hand-made.
00:08But it's not only hand-made, it's hand-woman-made.
00:11It's made for about 200 women working for this beautiful project during four months.
00:18So we're excited to share with you and into the world the beauty of Mexico,
00:23the colors of Mexico, and of course the hands of our artisans.
00:30When Expo told me you are in mobility district and we are renting this pavilion in a district of mobility,
00:39we think about many things in Mexico.
00:43Sustainability, of course, opportunities we have with business and with culture.
00:48And my role is being the director of pavilion and Mexico is full of culture.
00:53But I said, I'm in mobility district, we need to share mobility.
00:57And we have this species of the monarch butterfly who is flying around Mexico and around the world and make migration.
01:06So Mexicans are migrants.
01:09We are making migration all over the time, all over the world.
01:13And we are full of people of Mexico around the world.
01:16So I said we are full country of mobility.
01:18We are mobility in all aspects, color, ideas that change the world.
01:28The expectation for Mexican pavilion is a huge kind of different aspect.
01:48First, in those six months, we have to show to the world the huge and amazing heritage and story and history of our country.
02:02As you know, if you visit our pavilion, you can see we have a rainforest, desert, beach, archaeological site, colonial sites.
02:15We have also a very strong country in the economy world.
02:22We occupy at least the 15th post in the economy world.
02:28We have a lot of productions and exportations and trade with so many countries.
02:41So we are a very strong country in the point of view of economical aspect.
02:47So in those months, we can boost our bilateral relation, of course, with the UAE.
02:56But not only with the UAE, with all the countries that are present in this extraordinary Expo Dubai 2020.
03:12That's right!
03:18I'm very honored to be the artist invited to intervene the Mexican pavilion.
03:24And as soon I knew that Mexico have decided to put the face of contemporary art as the face of the country.
03:37And that it was a woman and that my hands were going to be part of this huge event.
03:46I decided to ask a collaboration.
03:50Because I used to work about one of my issues, important issues, is the visibilization and dignification of popular art in Mexico.
04:03That is one of our richness, one of the most important things in the country.
04:11So I invited a community of women, 100 of them, to weave the facade.
04:22And to me was not only a material, but the verb itself was going to be a metaphor.
04:30Because I think that the whole Expo, looking at all these values as mobility and sustainability,
04:39all this has to be woven by the new human being that is rising now after this horrible sickness that all the world had.
04:50All the losses that we had in every country.
04:54So I think we need to weave again, to weave again with humanity for the human rights.
05:03And being a woman in these hard times for women in many countries, even my country,
05:11it was important that the work of women offer stars and flowers and friendship to all the world with a handmade, all handmade facade.
