00:00A new initiative announced on Tuesday is being held in association with the Knowledge and
00:09Human Development Authority in Dubai and will provide a rare and valuable opportunity for
00:13Dubai school students to create and publish an education news page in Gulf News each week,
00:18encouraging the skills of writing, editing, research, content management and journalism.
00:23We very seldom hear the student voice in our media landscape and they do have views
00:30and they have very interesting, very important views.
00:33Running for 16 weeks, students from 16 different schools will write news and features for the
00:38special page which will be published once a week.
00:41Pupils will also contribute any accompanying pictures and graphics as well as designing
00:44the layout of the page.
00:46The initiative will also encourage peers both inside and outside the participating schools
00:51to read the works of contributing students.
00:53This initiative is actually to engage the kids more in today's stories and in the way
00:58of writing, reading, participating, commenting on that and Gulf News being pioneering in
01:04this area and we engaging the school further for this initiative.
01:08We're really looking forward and I think we will be pleasantly surprised with what the
01:12kids have to say to write and their views on this one.
01:15Yeah, I think it's a wonderful initiative for the young people of Dubai and particularly
01:19the students at my school will be very interested in getting involved in expressing their views
01:24and opinions.
01:25They do that anyway within school but to have that platform across Dubai and across the
01:29UAE will be fantastic and I think the opportunities that Gulf News will provide for winners that
01:35we've been talking about will be a really special feature of their forward thinking
01:40and their life as they move forward.
01:41So thank you.
01:42When students are left out of an equation, I think there's no equation at all.
01:46So for Gulf News to be partnering with KHD and with schools to have students on board,
01:52I'm really, really thrilled.
01:53I can give you a hundred reasons but I think my top one would be because students always
01:59amaze us.
02:01People think they have no opinions, they're frivolous, they're only fascinated with all
02:06the glitzy stuff but that's so, so untrue.
02:09You have to get to know young people to know what they're capable of and for me that's
02:13very exciting because this is the platform, this is an opportunity for them to really
02:17showcase what merit they carry with them.
02:19And I think this initiative will be great for our students to work alongside the Gulf
02:23News, to have an opportunity to actually translate what they do into real life, into practice.
02:29At the end of the campaign, the best page will be awarded as the winner while all participating
02:33schools will also be facilitated.
02:35This initiative can be supported by sponsoring Gulf News subscriptions to schools and universities
02:40across the country and Gulf News will match every subscription sponsored through this
02:43program.
