Storm chaser Aaron Jayjack reported live from Washington, D.C., as snow began to accumulate in the city on the afternoon of Feb. 11.
Transcript
00:00That's right. We begin with the latest winter storm hitting the mid-Atlantic.
00:03And storm chaser Aaron Jayjack, he joins us live from Washington, D.C.
00:07The snow coming down, and you know, Damien and I were just talking about how the changes have
00:11been very obvious. What do you see in there, Aaron?
00:17Yeah, we've had snowfall here for a couple of hours now. You can see it's probably the
00:21heaviest snow we've felt yet here in downtown Washington, D.C. It's coming down pretty good.
00:25It's been steady, but it's getting heavier. As you can see, the roadways are still very,
00:29very wet, so no accumulation really on the roadways or the sidewalks. But if you take a
00:34look at some of these elevated areas, like the grasses, trees, awnings in front of some of the
00:38restaurants here on Pennsylvania Avenue, it is starting to accumulate on those raised areas.
00:43You can see it's even collecting on the signs here. There's a slight breeze here blowing it
00:47right into that sign. But we're just getting started here. We should see the snow to continue
00:51to fall through the evening here in Washington, D.C., points to the north up to Baltimore,
00:56and of course further to the south here in Washington, D.C. We could actually see heavier
01:00snow than right here in the district. They've been doing significant salt treatment here in
01:05Washington, D.C. So if you drove around before the storm, it actually looked like it snowed in
01:09some areas of that. That salt was laid down thick on some of the roadways. They continued to drop
01:14that salt up until the flurries, the flakes started to fly here. And they're coming down
01:19now here. We should see, as I mentioned, three to six inches or so in this area. So we're just
01:23getting started here in D.C. Should see that snow overnight, end of the early morning hours,
01:28before eventually you start seeing some possibly some rain as another round of winter weather comes
01:34through the area here. But I'll be tracking the storm here for you all on the AccuWeather Network
01:39through the evening hours. Back to you guys. They're not stingy with the salt there,
01:43Damien. Look at that. Holy moly. Not at all. It's like I think they told the drivers,
01:48once you're done with your salt load, you can go home. And they're just like, dump. One road.
01:55I'm a head out. Let's go home. That's good. Well, thank you for your report there, Mr. J. Jack.
02:00Yeah, pretty good stuff. I'm pretty stingy with it on my driveway. Maybe I should take notes.
