00:00Good day. Welcome to the Gulf News update for Wednesday, July the 1st. Here are the
00:08top stories at this hour.
00:11Daesh insurgents threaten to turn the Gaza Strip into another of their Middle East fiefdoms,
00:16accusing Hamas, the organization that rules the Palestinian Territory, of not being stringent
00:21enough about religious enforcement. The video statement, issued from a Daesh stronghold
00:26in Syria, was a rare public challenge to Hamas, which has been cracking down on radical Islamists
00:32in Gaza, who oppose its truce with Israel and reconciliation with the US-backed rival
00:38Palestinian faction, Fatah.
00:40With effect from August 1, 2015, no new residence visas or renewal of existing visa applications
00:47will be processed without mandatory health insurance coverage in Dubai. The rule will
00:52apply to companies with 100 to 999 employees that fall in phase two of the coverage. Companies
00:59that fall under the phase three of the implementation that ends in 2016 will be exempt from this.
01:06In phase one of the implementation that ended on October 31, 2014, all companies with more
01:12than 1,000 employees were covered.
01:15The United States and Cuba have agreed to open embassies in each other's capitals, the
01:19biggest tangible step in the country's historic bid to restore ties after more than half a
01:24century of hostilities. President Barack Obama is expected to announce the agreement today
01:29at the White House.
01:31Football and Argentina produced their best performance of the Copa America so far to
01:35crush Paraguay 6-1 and set up a classic final against host Chile. Angel Di Maria scored
01:41twice as Marcos Rojo and Javier Pastore. Sergio Aguero and Gonzalo HiguaÃn also found the
01:47net in a brilliant display orchestrated by an inspired Lionel Messi.
01:53Ben Affleck, Jennifer Garner took turns working so they could nurture their careers and their
01:57three kids, devoted parents who appeared arm-in-arm at countless in-the-street events. Well, now
02:03it seems the work is done. After weeks of public speculation about their relationship,
02:09the couple have announced they plan to end their 10-year marriage with a divorce.
02:14And finally, today's weather highs across the UAE will be 45 degrees Celsius dropping
02:18to 29 tonight.
02:19That's all for now, thanks for watching but as always you can get the latest news on gulfnews.com
