00:00Former British champion boxer David Hay held a large group boxing lesson at the World Trade
00:10Centre ahead of the opening of his new training centre in Dubai, The Haymaker Gym.
00:14Participants were treated to a 40-minute boxing lesson that focused purely on proper boxing
00:19technique.
00:20People of all ages attended and all proceeds for the event went to a local charity.
00:25Boxing is very new over here so it's nice to get so many people down here and literally
00:29give them a boxing lesson, teaching them the basics of boxing.
00:31It's not about fighting each other, no one's going to get hurt, it's just all about enjoyment,
00:35it's all about learning a sport.
00:37It was really fun to see the little kids held their concentration the whole way through.
00:44All the guys from the Guinness Book of Records were here monitoring everything so we find
00:49out in the next few days whether we've made it official yet, but I'm quite confident it
00:56should be.
00:57Even if it doesn't, it was a great day and it's been positive all around.
01:02I've learned so much in boxing, it's nice to show people what I've learned and teach
01:07them the boxing.
01:08There's a right and I believe there's a wrong way to teach boxing and that's why I like
01:11to work with people who haven't done it at all.
01:15Sometimes it's hard to reverse some bad techniques, it's easier to teach someone to do it correctly
01:21from the start.
01:22So getting everybody here, a lot of these people have never boxed before, so many people
01:25have never actually done any exercise but they all enjoyed it, I wasn't here to try
01:29to hurt them or give them the toughest ever workout, it was about teaching the basics
01:34of boxing and how boxing can be fun and how boxing can be used as a tool to exercise without
01:39getting hurt, without getting punched in the face.
01:42It's a non-contact way of getting in good shape and getting healthy.
01:45Everybody had a good time, everybody was smiling and that's what it was all about, raising
01:49awareness for a great cause, the Rashid Center for Disabled Children, every one of these
01:57people know about it now and the people looking in and reading these papers now, so it's getting
02:01awareness and obviously raising money also, so I think we've done really well here today.
02:05This event will go a long way towards raising awareness of boxing as a sport in the UAE
02:10And due to the large turnout, David Hay has expressed interest in making this an annual
02:13event.
