In The Loop's John P. Lopez, Reginald Adetula and Figgy Fig react to the Philadelphia Eagles taking down the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl.
Transcript
00:00Super Bowl happened, and it happened in a kind of wild way, 40-22, Philadelphia Eagles.
00:06John, would you like to take a victory lap of sorts?
00:10Man, me and Andrew Brandt, me and Andrew Brandt was way out on a limb in his prediction.
00:16Did you see that?
00:18Basically said not only is it going to be an Eagles win, but it might be the worst game of Patrick Mahomes' career.
00:25I didn't go that far.
00:26But ultimately, when I sat down to place my wagers on this game, I stayed true to what I was saying all last week.
00:34I was not in the same ballpark as him, but I kept saying, I was telling you guys,
00:38I was like, the Eagles are better in every single way.
00:42They're better across the board, except quarterback.
00:47And if they would just go.
00:48And even that, right?
00:49And even that, you can argue.
00:50You sure about that?
00:51If you went back a couple years in the Super Bowl then, in 2023, it was not even an argument.
01:00Or maybe you could say it's an argument to keep things as copacetic as possible.
01:05Jalen Hurts outplayed Patrick Mahomes in that game as well.
01:08And you had a similar situation here.
01:10And yeah, this is ultimately where it went.
01:13I was really upset watching this game, not for any other reason than just, hey man, I should have went with my head.
01:20Ultimately, I sat down and I was like, okay, I got to go with the Eagles.
01:23Yeah, I went with the mysticism, right?
01:25I went with the mysticism that we have of the Kansas City Chiefs, which is like, hey, all of the logic be damned.
01:31They got Patrick Mahomes, they're going to make something shake.
01:35And boy, did they not make a single solitary thing shake.
01:40I was kind of amazed.
01:41As much as we talked about the fact that the Eagles are better in every way,
01:45Aaron Schatz of FTN Fantasy gave us a really interesting stat about just how good this Eagles defense is
01:51compared to like over the entirety of his data set back to 1978, a top 10 defense by various metrics.
01:58They showed it.
01:59And yet still, I don't think that even the people who were leaning towards the Eagles as the victors in this one coming into it
02:08would have expected a game that was as lopsided as the 40-22 final score.
02:14One, show it, and two, really honestly, didn't show because that 40-22 does not feel like what that game is.
02:19It was a lot worse than that.
02:20It should be 42-6 or whatever it was.
02:23And I got to tell you, I was almost swayed by that mysticism too because I kept, over the course of the whole week,
02:28I was like, they're better, they're better everywhere.
02:30But ultimately, when I was driving home with you guys, I was like, man, am I going to bet against Patrick Mahomes?
02:37And I kept saying, I can't do it, I can't do it.
02:39I sat down yesterday about two, three hours before the game, I said, screw it, you mentioned the word logic.
02:43I said, I'm just going to go with logic.
02:45I'm just going to bet on the Eagles that they're going to get it done, etc.
02:50And I want to add this as well because I was mentioning it with Sean Pendergast before the show.
02:55That was a highly entertaining game, which is sort of counterintuitive.
03:00You think, you know, last second win, big field goal or big play at the end.
03:05This one was highly entertaining in a different way because it was awe-inspiring.
03:09It was like, holy moly.
03:14I couldn't stop watching it.
03:15Yeah, I'm interested.
03:17713-572-4610 is the number to text.
03:20Also, shout out to the livestream, the Mulcanirum Injury Lawyers livestream that we always have for you on YouTube and Twitch.
03:29I'm interested in how people saw it and how many people dipped out if at all and when.
03:35Because as you mentioned, right, it's one of the things that I've long believed,
03:39which is there's a couple of things that we tend to make the same thing that are not,
03:45which is a good game and a close game.
03:47Yeah.
03:48And this really comes to a head a month from now when we get into the NCAA tournament
03:54when we have a lot of close games at times that are not inherently good games.
03:57Right.
03:58Because, you know, college basketball can give you some of that sometimes, right?
04:00Misses and all that stuff, yeah.
04:01This was a game that, I don't know that there's been a better game to illustrate that on the other end, right,
04:07in the positive as opposed to the negative where, no, this was a good game.
04:10At least it was entertaining for me personally.
04:12I'm interested to see how that falls in where it was not close at all, at all.
04:18And maybe how much of that was just watching a game and seeing a power maybe fall.
04:23And I guess that's a question that needs to be asked is like,
04:25does it feel like that dynasty is wrapped in any way, shape, or form, right?
04:29Because we were coming in, it was just like,
04:31what would it take to chip at this dynasty and maybe bring it to an end?
04:35And some of the things that we thought of, we're like, oh man, there's not a lot there.
04:39I don't know, does it feel vastly different a few days later?
04:44Look, just on your first point, I couldn't stop watching it because of the impressiveness of what the Eagles were doing.
04:54As far as the dynasty, I can't go there.
04:58As long as you still have Patrick Holmes,
05:00which was the reason we both were swayed a little bit with the Chiefs.
05:04Now they have some big answers, the questions they answer here.
05:08Travis Kelsey, I feel, I mean, he may retire, but even if he doesn't,
05:12he's not the same guy and he's their go-to.
05:15They have some young talent at the wide receiver position,
05:18but not overwhelmingly good offensive line.
05:21Two years ago, when they lost to Tampa, I should say,
05:25they had to redo their offensive line.
05:27Four years ago, because that was the 2021.
05:29Yeah, they had to redo their offensive line, and they did, and they got back.
05:33So it's not over, but there are some severe questions that they need to answer.
05:37Yeah, a lot of texts coming in in all sorts of various places.
05:43Seems like this person really enjoyed the game from the 8-3-2.
05:45Mahomes was getting lit up. It was so damn beautiful.
05:48Sat the career high.
05:49Yes, six sacks, and mind you, that happens with the Eagles,
05:53not blitzing a single solitary time.
05:56You mentioned that Super Bowl that happened in February of 2021,
06:01and this is where I clearly was being an idiot
06:04and did not learn from the lessons of the past, which was,
06:08oh yeah, that's right, when the Chiefs in particular,
06:10and probably just in general, when a team comes to the Super Bowl
06:13with offensive line issues, that does not bode well for them.
06:16I remember Patrick Mahomes having to get horizontal
06:18in that game because he was under such pressure,
06:21and you pair the offensive line, you know, I guess musical chairs
06:26that they've had to play all season long with the singular ability,
06:31and maybe not singular, because the ways in which the Eagles
06:36were able to generate pressure all year long without blitzing very much,
06:40and I should have seen the idea that this would happen,
06:42but again, the mysticism, right, the ways that this Kansas City Chiefs team
06:45has constantly sat at the brink and managed to find their way over
06:49into victory all season long, and then obviously you take that
06:52further through the era where we build Patrick Mahomes up
06:56to be the Jordan of this time, and you go, all right,
06:58well, they're just going to find a way, but I don't know how you found a way
07:01out of just early and often being under siege by only four dudes,
07:06which means that they have another, what, seven dudes,
07:08if I'm doing my math right, seven dudes back there locking dudes up,
07:12because early on it wasn't like immediate pressure,
07:14it was like, oh, wow, those dudes are all clamped up,
07:17and now here comes Jaylen Carter, and now here comes Nola Smith, right,
07:21and that was fascinating to watch.
07:23Yeah, it was so good to watch, and that's what made it so good,
07:27but I do want to, a couple things early on that sort of made me think,
07:33okay, I'm going to get destroyed here was when they had literally
07:38on the first drive a horrible call on A.J. Brown pushing off
07:43on a huge conversion.
07:45My phone lit up, and it was all people like, here we go.
07:49It's happening.
07:50Oh, that was the whole timeline.
07:52On all social media, that was everybody.
07:54You tend to forget it now, but at the time I was like, well, crap.
07:57You know what's tough about that?
07:58They really are going to just thumb their nose at us and just give,
08:01but then it evened out, of course.
08:03What's tough about that as well is you get the right angle, and it's like,
08:06hey, that's a handsome face mask.
08:08But he didn't push off.
08:09It was like finding his room, you know.
08:11I mean, literally, radio officials in the booth,
08:15the former officials in the booth were saying, like, no, no,
08:17you got to let that go.
08:19Tom Brady said it as well, you know, et cetera.
08:21And it was like the fact that it happened there, you know, boom, boom, boom,
08:25they're going down the field after getting the opening kickoff,
08:27and then they go, nope, sorry, we're not going to do it.
08:29But they overcame that.
08:30How did you feel about the refereeing all the way across the game, though?
08:32Very sloppy, very hit and miss.
08:35They missed calls on both sides that I thought were
08:37should have let them play kind of moments.
08:39One on, I believe, the Eagles' second scoring drive
08:42that probably should have ended that drive
08:45or made it forced a field goal.
08:47I'm trying to remember the exact call, but I think it was a hold,
08:49a defensive hold or something like that.
08:52But either way, I thought it was just very inconsistent.
08:55And then the other thing I wanted to do here right out of the shoot,
08:57because it's the first time this has ever happened,
08:59shout out to Channelview, man.
09:01Hey.
09:02How about Channelview?
09:04Yeah, man.
09:05And Jalen Hurts.
09:06This blew my mind.
09:08I didn't even put it together.
09:10First Houston area quarterback to ever win a Super Bowl.
09:12Yeah.
09:13Shout out to B. Scott.
09:14I saw him tweet this during the game.
09:16He became the first Houston product quarterback to start in a Super Bowl.
09:21Yeah.
09:22And then ultimately became the first one to win it by the end of the night.
09:25Shout out to Jalen Hurts.
09:26Big time.
09:27Does this get us closer to the crawfish shack?
09:29I hope so, man.
09:30I hope so.
09:31I hope that little extra money he get,
09:34I hope he invests that into a little crawfish shack or something.
09:37I imagine it's going to be more than a little.
09:39Yeah, a little something, something.
09:41But, yeah, man, salute to him, man.
09:43That was awesome.
09:44Just as a Houstonian, you know?
09:45On top of that, he's cool, too, man.
09:47And he's cool.
09:48He's so smooth.
09:49He's cool as hell.
09:50He's smooth as silk, man.
09:52Yeah.
09:54First, I think actually, you know what?
09:56This might be the time to unveil this.
09:57We'll talk more about the ads of it all actually probably next.
10:00But were you able to get the Jordan brand advertisement that aired after this game,
10:06which, look, man, there wasn't, for me personally,
10:09and I guess I'm letting the cat out of the bag when we talk about the ads,
10:12I feel like the ad game on the Super Bowl is largely done-zo.
10:17Like it does not feel like it has the same.
10:19It was trash last night, man.
10:21It doesn't feel like it has the same hit, same power.
10:23But I did feel like the afterward, like when you get those ads afterwards,
10:26that teams put together, maybe not teams,
10:29specifically like it felt like the shoe brands do a great job of this.
10:33This is the Jordan brand ad when it came to Jalen Hurts that really felt like it landed,
10:38at least for me personally.
10:39Hate that you said he wasn't a top 10 quarterback.
10:44Hate that you said he couldn't throw the ball.
10:49Hate that he got over when push came to shove.
10:53Hate that he always say the right thing.
10:55Money is nice. Championships are better.
10:57Hate that in your all-knowing, armchair wisdom, you were sure he'd come up short.
11:02Hate that you got it wrong.
11:09Yeah, man.
11:10One, incredible needle drop, right?
11:13Love TKO. It's TKO by what was that?
11:16No, it's Love Ballot, isn't it?
11:18No, that was Love TKO by Teddy.
11:21Teddy Pendergast.
11:23Pendergrass.
11:24There we go.
11:25Pendergrass gets me a shot and I call him Teddy.
11:28But that's like the arc that Jalen Hurts has had over the course of his career.
11:34It's a field.
11:35That man got benched in a championship game.
11:37Yeah, remember that interview he had after they won the national championship?
11:41He was as gracious as you could get.
11:43He sounded just like he do now.
11:44Yeah, he was as gracious as you could get after getting benched.
11:47It's just a feel-good moment for anybody who lives in this area
11:51and anybody who really is just a fan of good dudes doing good things.
11:55It was fantastic from start to finish for Jalen Hurts.
11:59And shout out Channelview, man.
12:01They don't get a lot of love down in Channelview.
12:03Well, they do now.
12:04Shout out to the east side, man.
12:05They need to build a statue right now, at this moment.
12:08I imagine so.
12:09At the very least, if there isn't already the case,
12:13Jalen Hurts' name needs to be on some stuff over there at Lee.
12:16I imagine his name needs to be all over some stuff here shortly.
12:20There's a lot of things to talk about during the course of this Super Bowl experience.
12:25There's people talking about Mountain Dew ads,
12:28talking about Taylor Swift and Kelsey.
12:30There's all sorts of stuff.
