00:00Philippine National Police or PNP Chief General Rommel Marbil sees the extension of his term as an opportunity

00:07to help the National Police upgrade its preparations for the 2025 midterm elections

00:13and strengthen crime prevention in the country.

00:16This comes after President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. extended his tenure for four more months.

00:27PNP Chief General Rommel Francisco Marbil will use his four-month extension to establish proper security measures for a safe and peaceful elections in May.

00:45This, Marbil stated after President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. extended his term as Chief of the Philippine National Police.

00:51According to Police Regional Office 3 and PNP spokesperson, Police Brigadier General Gene Fajardo,

00:56the police force is continuously preparing to implement adequate security measures for the election.

01:02The PNP's campaign against loose firearms, private armed groups, and criminal gangs will also continue to prevent them from being used by corrupt politicians.

01:11One of the main considerations why the service of our PNP has been extended for at least four months

01:19is to make sure that our continuous security preparation for the election

01:25will not be affected by a sudden change of leadership.

01:35Aside from ensuring a properly conducted election, Marbil will also ramp up crime prevention efforts and community engagement to maintain peace and order in the country.

01:43The PNP chief also vows not to overlook disciplining police officers in cleaning up the ranks.

01:48Brigadier General Fajardo also denied that Marbil's four-month extension would have a significant impact on the promotions of senior officers.

01:55In fact, both PNP personnel and officials fully support Marbil's term extension.

02:01We have programs laid out, especially in the organizational structure that our PNP wants to implement.

02:10Even though it is four months, the programs laid out are expected to continue.

02:18This includes, of course, our continuous strengthening of our internal disciplinary mechanisms

02:24to make sure that the remaining members of the Philippine National Police are properly disciplined.

02:32Marbil is the 30th PNP chief and a member of the Philippine Military Academy's Sambisig Class of 1991.

02:39He assumed the position in April following the retirement of former PNP chief, Police General Benjamin Acorda Jr.
