01:07After the NFA declared a food security emergency on rice yesterday,

01:11Filipinos will continue to feel cheap rice.

01:15The goal of this declaration is to influence the price in the market.

01:20The National Food Authority is now consulting all participating LGUs

01:25in the country to send their allocation.

01:29The NFA has already sent communication to the LGUs.

01:34We sent a letter inviting them to participate.

01:39So far in NCR, including Cavite, because in NFA, Cavite is included in NCR,

01:46we have already sent 53 letters.

01:50And we are waiting for the reply of the LGUs

01:54so we can ascertain who are the interested to participate.

01:58150,000 metric tons of rice will be sent to local governments.

02:05The NFA will sell rice to LGUs for 33 pesos per kilo.

02:11And it can be sold to LGUs for up to 35 pesos.

02:17The NFA expects that it will start selling next week.

02:22The Department of Agriculture assistant secretary, Engineer Arnel De Mesa,

02:27clarified that the NFA did not declare a food security emergency on rice

02:31because of the lack of stocks,

02:33but because of the high prices in the markets.

02:38The food security emergency is only because of the extraordinary increase

02:45in the price of rice,

02:47and not because of the lack of rice supply in our country

02:52which is governed by the Republic Act 12078 or the amendment to the rice tariffication law.

02:58According to the NFA,

03:00compared to the first recommendation of the National Price Coordinating Council

03:03which is 38 pesos per kilo,

03:05this is even lower.

03:07According to the agency,

03:09lowering the price is to give space to the storage of the NFA

03:13as a preparation for the upcoming harvest season.

03:17Meanwhile, the maximum suggested retail price of imported rice

03:21will be lowered to 55 pesos

03:23from the previous 58 pesos MSRP

03:25starting tomorrow, February 5.

03:27According to the Department of Agriculture,

03:29this step is important to reduce the food price inflation,

03:33particularly in basic commodities such as rice.

03:37The agency's target is to lower the MSRP of imported rice to 49 pesos

03:42in March while lowering the prices of local rice in the markets.

03:47The premium rice will only play at 49 pesos to 59 pesos per kilo

03:52while the well-milled rice will be at 47 pesos.
