The national museum of Wales in Cardiff will be closed to the public until further notice for essential maintenance work, after politicians recently raised concerns over the future of the establishment. The museum has said that the current issue should be fixed in the next few days.

00:06but many visitors to the city could be disappointed that it closed suddenly due to essential maintenance
00:11on the building.
00:12Amgueddfa Cymru said that they were forced to make the difficult decision to close the
00:17museum for visitors for a short period in order to undertake immediate maintenance caused
00:21by a mechanical failure in an isolated area of the building.
00:26The museum has apologised to visitors, but said that the issue would be sorted in a few
00:30days.
00:31It comes during a period when the future of the museum itself is at risk due to funding
00:35cuts to the arts across Wales, but assurances from the Culture Minister said that the museum
00:40would remain open.
00:42In April 2024, the museum announced that 90 jobs would be cut due to a decrease in funding
00:48by £3 million from the Welsh Government, and Amgueddfa Cymru say they need to fill
00:52funding gaps of up to £4.5 million in order to maintain the future of the museum.
