00:00Hanging out with the legend from Metallica and the first thing I got to ask you is your son
00:04I wearing a Metallica shirt. How you feeling about that tonight?
00:06He is wearing a black Sabbath shirt. So
00:10They're the Godfathers and there you go
00:13We just saw Judas Priest here too. So they're the other Godfathers. So it's all it's all good
00:18I was about to say I think
00:20Rock and metal is having a huge year at the Grammys. You're no stranger
00:24You're a veteran in the scene in what ways have you seen the genre change over the years?
00:28Well, you know everything kind of comes back around
00:31Fortunately for Metallica for us, you know, we've been able to maintain a certain level of I guess you could say credibility
00:39We don't take anything for granted though. You know, we work hard. We appreciate our fans. They're amazing
00:45We have a great team and at the end of the day
00:48It's all hard work and you know a love for what you do and how you create, you know
00:55When I think about legends like you guys I think about the stories that you must have and you're at the Grammys
00:59It's obviously isn't your first time at the Grammys
01:01What's a memory you have that is life-changing that's your son probably wouldn't want to hear. Oh, yeah
01:06well, there's a lot of those I
01:09mean, you know in this in this in this type of music in the genre between the touring and in the 90s and
01:16I'm sure it was even crazier in the 70s
01:19It's like, you know, it's a rollercoaster ride the rollercoaster ride of life of rock and roll and
01:25You know, it almost feels like as you get older you have to go through those transitions figure out how to stay healthy
01:32Maybe less booze and more yoga. I don't know
01:37And then you could stay in the game, you know, I believe you get better with age
01:41But you just have to maintain the transitions and you know and be smart about it
01:47Yeah, but this is always a joy because it's where we can all come together different styles of music different genres
01:54And again with the fires, it's not about winning or losing today. It's about
01:59you know smiling and enjoying life and
02:03You know, it's it's more about being together, you know, and LA is uniting. So what would you say is your favorite part of this city?
02:10Just that actually is is everything that we've been through
02:14It's like I was telling somebody earlier
02:16It was crazy because we have friends that lost their studios in their homes and we live in Topanga Canyon and we were at risk
02:22They were checking up on us and texting us and then I find out that they lost their home
02:28and it's like and they're checking up on us and I think that's the mindset of
02:33Musicians is you know at the end of the day, you know through writing songs and being creative and in
02:39Jamming and being a team and uniting, you know, you're looking out for your brothers and your sisters to see if they're okay
02:46Meanwhile, they lose their studio in their homes and it's like, you know for us again
02:51We were close to that happening, but we were very fortunate that it didn't but again
02:56We do feel for our friends and even just people in general. I mean, it's it's it's sad, but you know
03:02We're all coming together. I'm gonna bounce back
03:04Cuz we're la united man. Well, thank you. Have a such a beautiful night. You have a good night to my man
