00:00I am here in Houston, Texas, where we are experiencing a rare, possibly once-in-a-lifetime
00:06winter storm here on the Texas Gulf Coast.
00:09And all along the Gulf Coast, the I-10 corridor is currently getting thumped with snow.
00:16We have blizzard warnings, in fact, in the southeastern part of Texas, Beaumont, into
00:20Louisiana, Lake Charles, Louisiana, and this is a first, a blizzard warning along the Gulf
00:25Coast of Mexico.
00:26A snow has been falling here all morning in Houston Metro, downtown Houston, Texas.
00:32And it continues to fall through the rest of the day for a couple, for a few more hours
00:36at least, we'll continue to get this snow to fall.
00:38Likely already experiencing about an inch to two inches of snow, possibly another couple
00:42more inches of snow coming into that four-inch mark, which could be a historic snowfall for
00:47here in Houston.
00:48We did have earlier freezing rain and sleet that was falling, but that has transitioned
00:53now to snow and gusty winds, winds gusting to 25, 30 miles per hour.
00:58Even down further on the coast, Galveston, Texas, winds gusting up to 50 miles per hour
01:02there.
01:03A significant winter storm that's going to cripple the I-10 corridor from San Antonio
01:08to Houston and points to the east, New Orleans, all the way to the Florida Panhandle will
01:13be crippling effects on the I-10 corridor.
01:15Already accidents occurring on the I-10, and it is only going to continue to get worse,
01:20especially tonight as this wet snow freezes over, becomes more of like an ice rink here
01:25in Texas and points to the east, and they don't have a lot of snow removal equipment
01:30here in this part of the country.
01:31So they're going to be reliant on the temperatures warming up and getting that snow to melt before
01:35things can open up like the schools and the airports here in Houston and points further
01:39to the east.
01:40For AccuWeather, I'm Aaron Jajak in Houston, Texas.
