00:00TikTok restores its services in the United States after President-elect Donald Trump
00:05said he would revive access to the app when he returns to power on Monday.
00:09At a rally, Trump says the U.S. will seek a joint venture to restore the app used by
00:13170 million Americans.
00:16He adds,
00:17"...frankly, we have no choice.
00:18We have to save it."
00:19In a message to users, TikTok said,
00:21"...as a result of President Trump's efforts, TikTok is back in the U.S."
00:25TikTok stopped working for U.S. users late on Saturday, before a law shutting it down
00:29on national security grounds took effect on Sunday.
00:33Trump said he would extend the period of time before the law's prohibitions take effect
00:37so that,
00:38"...we can make a deal to protect our national security."
00:40This is a reversal in stance from his first term in office.
00:43In August 2020, Trump signed an executive order giving ByteDance 90 days to sell TikTok
00:48but then approved of a deal structured as a partnership rather than a divestment.
