00:00:00Massive victory rally has been scheduled for Donald Trump by the MAGA group, which is the
00:00:06Make America Great Again supporters.
00:00:08Trump vows to end the Ukraine war in the rally, also addressing immigration, which has been
00:00:13a big flashpoint in American politics.
00:00:16The recent ban on TikTok and the crisis in West Asia, Donald Trump has said, will prevent
00:00:21the World War III and will bring peace.
00:00:24Trump has also said, I've hired a TikToker and put a video on the application.
00:00:29Also possibly from his earlier stance, deviating.
00:00:32Remember this time, Trump appears to have come with an agenda, as he takes over as 47th
00:00:37US President.
00:00:38It'll be in the next 24 hours.
00:00:40So ahead of that, there are all these rallies and India Today is on the ground to tell you
00:00:44all that is happening with world's most significant power ship.
00:00:47Here are some of the comments by Donald Trump.
00:00:52As a first step toward restoring transparency and accountability to government, we will
00:00:56also reverse the over classification of government documents.
00:01:01And in the coming days, we are going to make public remaining records relating to the assassinations
00:01:07of President John F. Kennedy, his brother, Robert Kennedy, as well as Dr. Martin Luther
00:01:14King, Jr. and other topics of great public interest.
00:01:18It's all going to be released on sale.
00:01:22I will end the war in Ukraine.
00:01:24I will stop the chaos in the Middle East.
00:01:26And I will prevent World War Three from happening.
00:01:29And you have no idea how close we are.
00:01:32If those hostages aren't back, I don't want to hurt your negotiation.
00:01:36If they're not back by the time I get into office, all hell will break out in the Middle
00:01:41East and it will not be good for Hamas and it will not be good, frankly, for anyone.
00:01:47All hell will break out.
00:01:48I don't have to say anymore, but that's what it is.
00:01:50And they should have given them back a long time.
00:01:52They should have never taken them.
00:01:54They should have never been the attack of October 7th.
00:01:56People forget that.
00:01:57By the time the sun sets tomorrow evening, the invasion of our borders will have come
00:02:04to a halt and all the illegal border trespassers will in some form or another be on their way
00:02:12back home.
00:02:13I also want to send our love to everyone affected by the terrible wildfires raging in California.
00:02:21We're praying for you all.
00:02:22We love you all.
00:02:24We're going to be there very soon.
00:02:25I'm going to go out there on Friday to see it and to get it moving back.
00:02:29We're going to get some of the best builders in the world, and we'll get it moving back.
00:02:34And I also want to pay my respects to the great people of North Carolina.
00:02:40You know, I want it every single time, and they've been treated very badly.
00:02:46FEMA almost didn't know it existed.
00:02:49And we're going to get North Carolina rocking and rolling, okay?
00:02:52We're going to get them rocking and rolling.
00:02:55They've been treated very badly as a state.
00:02:59Together we will rebuild Los Angeles better, more beautiful than ever before.
00:03:06We're going to get it going.
00:03:07We have the best builders in the world.
00:03:09It's the only people that could do it.
00:03:10Nobody else knows what the hell they're doing.
00:03:14We're looking forward to making a lot of changes.
00:03:19And, you know, this victory is the start, really.
00:03:27What matters going forward is to actually make significant changes, cement those changes,
00:03:34and set the foundation for America to be strong for a century, for centuries, forever.
00:03:44So...
00:03:51And make America great again.
00:03:56All right, so that's the big news coming in.
00:03:58In the next 24 hours, the United States of America is set to get their next president.
00:04:02Remember, it's not just about the USA.
00:04:05Usually, with regard to America, whoever is in the leadership position can decide global
00:04:10affiliation, especially the relationship with India, which has improved over the past
00:04:14few years.
00:04:15But it also remains to be seen how Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who've
00:04:20been, who've had a good bonhomie, have been good friends, how do they take this connect
00:04:25ahead, especially with India rising in the past few years and, of course, becoming a
00:04:30big brand in itself.
00:04:32Meanwhile, Trump, very clear agendas coming in, addressing immigration, the recent TikTok
00:04:37ban, and the Middle East crisis.
00:04:39In the next 24 hours, as Donald Trump becomes the 47th president, the issue will be the
00:04:44first decision that he takes for United States of America, or will it be perhaps on the ongoing
00:04:50wars and conflicts?
00:04:51Look at that.
00:04:52A full-on concert, a few steps by Donald Trump, a manga victory, right?
00:04:58He's interacting with some of the young men and women.
00:05:01The thumping majority, remember, that Donald Trump received this time, even though there
00:05:06were legal hassles ahead of his victory, he has got it and now is inching ahead to
00:05:14take over officially.
00:05:36And, of course, because this is such a big development ahead of the grand inauguration
00:05:55ceremony, a sea of Trump supporters gathering near Capitol, including prominent Indian Americans.
00:06:00India today is on the ground in the USA right now.
00:06:04India Today's Gaurav Sawant is currently in Washington, D.C.
00:06:07And here's the exclusive input he sent from the ground.
00:06:11The temperature in Washington, D.C. is about 4 degrees Celsius, but that hasn't deterred
00:06:18U.S. President-elect Donald Trump supporters from reaching the Capitol One arena.
00:06:23Right behind me, if you notice, these are all Trump supporters.
00:06:27They're queuing up for Cuba.
00:06:30From Cuba.
00:06:31Freedom from Cuba.
00:06:33Make Cuba great again, too.
00:06:39Voting.
00:06:46I don't mind.
00:06:47I don't mind.
00:06:48I don't mind.
00:06:49I came all the way from Cuba.
00:06:50You know, this is important.
00:06:51Freedom is important.
00:06:52Americans, pay attention.
00:06:54So if you just look around, just look all around you, Trump vans, Trump for president,
00:06:59excitement in the air.
00:07:01So despite the cold, what brings you here?
00:07:03I'm just happy to celebrate freedom, get our get our president back in the White House,
00:07:08turn America around.
00:07:10So why is this freedom for you?
00:07:12Why weren't you free earlier?
00:07:14I mean, we're talking about freedom to say what we want, freedom to do what we want,
00:07:18take care of our kids, put God back on top.
00:07:23Put God back on top.
00:07:24Wasn't that happening earlier?
00:07:25No, no, no.
00:07:27Why do you say that?
00:07:28Oh, my God.
00:07:29You say that very emphatically.
00:07:30Why do you say that wasn't happening earlier?
00:07:32I mean, if you just look at the targeting of children in America, you can see that God
00:07:35was never in the picture in the last four years.
00:07:37So it's time to get our country back and it's time to get our children back as well.
00:07:41Yeah.
00:07:42And the ruining of the nuclear family.
00:07:44And it's time to put our morals back in place.
00:07:47So Donald Trump's presidency means morality back in public life, morality back in family
00:07:53life.
00:07:54Is that what what part of the United States you come from?
00:07:57From Tennessee.
00:07:58Tennessee.
00:07:59Tennessee.
00:08:00It is.
00:08:01So let's let's talk to some more people here and just look all around.
00:08:04It's very, very cold.
00:08:06It's drizzling already.
00:08:08And yet you have thousands and thousands of people.
00:08:12Are you disappointed that it's not the inauguration is happening inside the Capitol Hill and not
00:08:17outside?
00:08:18It's more important to be safe, I feel like.
00:08:20And, you know, it's going to be very cold.
00:08:22So we had tickets.
00:08:24And so that's a disappointment not to be there live.
00:08:26But it's better to be safe.
00:08:28It indeed is.
00:08:29So how many people?
00:08:31Because we were told that, you know, lakhs would have been there in the open.
00:08:36But right now, just a couple of thousand would be inside the Capitol One arena.
00:08:40I think it holds 20,000 and I believe 225,000 inauguration tickets were distributed.
00:08:45If I read online correctly.
00:08:49So will others be disappointed or not?
00:08:51Not really.
00:08:52Well, if you don't get into something, you probably will.
00:08:54But there there is another rally tomorrow here, supposedly.
00:08:57So there are some choices.
00:08:59But obviously, two valleys can't hold all the number of tickets for inauguration.
00:09:03So what are your expectations of President Trump once he's in White House again tomorrow?
00:09:09He will have a lot of executive orders.
00:09:11I think a lot of people voted for him because of the border policies.
00:09:15And that's a big one.
00:09:17So I think people want to see a more secure border.
00:09:20Is that top priority even for you?
00:09:22Yes, it is.
00:09:23The border is paramount to keeping our country safe.
00:09:27And for aligning us with the values of the United States.
00:09:35Just turning things around to be safe and economically viable.
00:09:43So stay safe and economically viable.
00:09:45America is what you're looking at.
00:09:47Yes.
00:09:49I got it yesterday.
00:09:51Make America great again.
00:09:53How does America become great again?
00:09:55Well, first, you got to look at the economy.
00:09:57We're definitely in a trade deficit, which is something that doesn't help the economy, obviously.
00:10:01So I think tariffs are really good.
00:10:03Mostly for negotiating power.
00:10:05But also, we need to increase our industrial base.
00:10:08We need to strengthen the economy, obviously.
00:10:10But also, we need to focus on the military.
00:10:13And instilling those patriotic values, which I think we've lost for at least a decade now.
00:10:20Alright, so wish you all the best.
00:10:22And I see a lot of youngsters here, which is very good.
00:10:25And I also see you voted Trump.
00:10:27And you're braving this cold?
00:10:29I am braving this cold.
00:10:31I'm from Seattle, Washington.
00:10:34I am delighted to brave this storm.
00:10:37We are going to have one incredible president.
00:10:41Why do you think Donald Trump would be one incredible president?
00:10:45You know, what will he do differently from his first time?
00:10:48What would you want him to do differently from his first time?
00:10:51He knows the game better now.
00:10:54He can make decisions that are firm.
00:11:00He doesn't go back on that.
00:11:02He's a businessman and we need a businessman to run our country.
00:11:06Let me for a moment just show our viewers the kind of security that's been put in place.
00:11:12Because security has to be paramount.
00:11:14Look at these visuals.
00:11:17While you have police patrolling, that's happening almost constantly.
00:11:21You also have the national reserves, the army reserves, who've been called out.
00:11:27They're also deployed in this area.
00:11:29And look at this.
00:11:31Look at this long queue at the Capital One Arena,
00:11:35ahead of the arrival of the U.S. President-elect Donald Trump.
00:11:40There is tremendous excitement as all these people,
00:11:45they say they've had a long campaign, a long fight.
00:11:49But the war to make America great again, for them, has just started.
00:11:55Gaurav Sawant in Washington D.C. for India Today.
00:12:01Alright, joining me now from on the ground in Washington D.C., Rohit Sharma.
00:12:05Rohit, so finally all of that consistent reporting all these months,
00:12:09finally is witnessing a conclusion.
00:12:11Tell us about the mood on the ground in Washington.
00:12:14Has the dipping temperature in any way hampered the kind of excitement for the MAGA supporters?
00:12:20Not really.
00:12:21We were at the Capital One Arena today.
00:12:23There were about 60,000 people who showed up.
00:12:26We saw people who were trying to get in as early as 8 a.m.
00:12:31President Donald Trump had sent a message to everybody to get there early.
00:12:34We saw the event was delayed.
00:12:37President Trump only spoke around 6.37 local time.
00:12:40He was slated to speak at 3 p.m.
00:12:43Very excited people, very energetic.
00:12:46People coming from all over the United States to celebrate his inauguration.
00:12:50Yes, a little bit of disappointment that his swearing-in would not be at the Capitol Hill
00:12:54and people would not be able to go and see him do that outside of the Capitol Hill.
00:12:58But people are undeterred.
00:13:00Look, today it was supposed to snow about three to five inches.
00:13:03We only got two inches of snow.
00:13:05Some people were complaining that they should still hold the inauguration outside the Capitol
00:13:10where the stage has been built.
00:13:12So, yeah, everybody excited.
00:13:14The MAGA base is riled up and looking forward to what Trump brings in with Trump 2.0.
00:13:20Rohit, also I have a quick question.
00:13:22Tell us about the ceremony, the procedure.
00:13:24How is it going to be?
00:13:26Any details, itinerary that you do have?
00:13:29Because in many ways, I believe he will again take this opportunity to put out his vision and agenda possibly.
00:13:35Absolutely.
00:13:36You know, it's traditional for the president-elect, which is Donald Trump,
00:13:39he would go attend a church service, which is the cross from the White House.
00:13:43Then he goes for a traditional tea with President Biden and First Lady Jill Biden.
00:13:48We'll see those visuals come in.
00:13:50And from there, they will both travel in the beast from the White House to the Capitol.
00:13:55It's a tradition, both the president-elect.
00:13:57They travel in that presidential car to the Capitol.
00:14:00They will go to the Rotunda, where he will be sworn in.
00:14:03And then after that, he will make a small short speech,
00:14:06after which he's going to come back to the Capitol Arena and then give a big speech.
00:14:11Between that, he's going to sign two executive orders.
00:14:13We will probably see visuals of Joe Biden leaving Washington, D.C.
00:14:16and President Trump sending off, essentially, from the Capitol steps too
00:14:21and saying goodbye to President Biden.
00:14:23And then he will be in action.
00:14:25And if there's any doubt left in anybody's mind, you know, about anything,
00:14:29I think Donald Trump put it to rest.
00:14:31He's coming with at least, they are saying, 100 executive orders,
00:14:35repealing a lot of actions that Joe Biden took into office.
00:14:38In his speech, he talked about them today.
00:14:40So it's going to be a very, very hectic and eventful tomorrow,
00:14:43which will be MAGA 2.0 or Trump 2.0, however you want to call it.
00:14:48Very interesting.
00:14:49So we'll be, of course, tracking all the latest on that.
00:14:51Rohit, wishing you the very best.
00:14:53It's going to be a long night for all our colleagues
00:14:55because it looks like already people are trying to get in.
00:14:58And in the next 24 hours, that big announcement is going to take place.
00:15:02Also, let's take a look at how the details that are coming in.
00:15:06Remember, as the God of Sawant is on the ground,
00:15:09sending us all the reactions, the sentiment.
00:15:12Indian-Americans who have been Republican supporters have also come in as well.
00:15:16So let's take a look at all these excerpts that we have for you
00:15:19already coming in from the USA.
00:15:22Donald Trump's motto was make America great again.
00:15:25And just before his inauguration, make America great again caps
00:15:29and inauguration Trump 2025,
00:15:32are actually selling like hotcakes here in Washington, D.C.?
00:15:36Yeah, we're actually passing out.
00:15:38We asked for a donation for an outreach program.
00:15:41We do. We just try to turn people's lives around through spiritual counseling.
00:15:46But yeah, that's people are people of them.
00:15:50Actually, is that excitement in Washington, D.C.
00:15:53with Trump returning to the White House after a gap of four years?
00:15:56Honestly, D.C.'s pretty blue city.
00:15:59So I'm not from D.C.
00:16:01I actually live in New York and Florida.
00:16:03So I'd say the enthusiasm is from the entirety of the country.
00:16:07D.C. probably a little bit less.
00:16:09But people are coming from all over the country to be here.
00:16:11But it's extremely cool.
00:16:13Are you excited about Trump returning to the White House?
00:16:15Donald Trump, he's the best.
00:16:18He's going to make America great.
00:16:21Make America great again is Donald Trump's.
00:16:24It's going to be a new the golden age of common sense.
00:16:26We also see it as the golden age of reinstituting the principles of Dharma.
00:16:30Reinstitution the principles of Dharma.
00:16:33Varnashram Dharma.
00:16:35Of course, we have to help Donald Trump understand that animal slaughter is not a good thing.
00:16:42But we'll get to that later.
00:16:44Tulsi, you practice Ahimsa?
00:16:48We only eat prasad. That is it.
00:16:50So are you a part? Are you?
00:16:52We are Hare Krishna.
00:16:55Brilliant. Amazing meeting you. What's your name?
00:16:58Jayananda Das.
00:17:00Let me give you Gaurav, right?
00:17:02I'm Gaurav. That's right.
00:17:03This is from Bhagavad Gita.
00:17:05Beyond birth and death.
00:17:07This is A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada.
00:17:10So you're a part of the ISKCON?
00:17:12Yes, we are practitioners of Krishna consciousness.
00:17:15International Society. And how many of you are here? Is that a big group?
00:17:19Well, let's see. There's just a few of us here doing this distribution of literature.
00:17:24But there's thousands in D.C.
00:17:27Together we're going to chant the great mantra for peace, prosperity and reinstitution of Dharma.
00:17:33The mantra for great liberation.
00:17:35Please repeat after me. You know this.
00:17:37Hare Krishna. Hare Krishna. Hare Krishna. Krishna Krishna. Hare Hare.
00:17:40Hare Rama. Hare Rama. Rama Rama. Hare Hare.
00:17:44Can you imagine? At Washington D.C., outside my house.
00:17:48Hare Krishna. Hare Krishna. Krishna Krishna. Hare Hare.
00:17:51Despite the icy Arctic winds, the temperatures plummeting, the snow, the rain,
00:17:57there is nothing that will reduce the enthusiasm or deter Trump supporters from getting to Washington D.C.
00:18:05for President Trump's inauguration as the 47th President of the United States of America.
00:18:10And with me are two prominent Indian-Americans to talk about the India-America journey
00:18:17during the presidency of Donald Trump in White House for a second tenure.
00:18:22With me is Dr. Dayaprasad Kulkarni. Dr. Kulkarni is an arogya specialist.
00:18:28Also with me is Pramit Makode.
00:18:31Pramit Makode is again a specialist in dealing with India-America relations
00:18:37and has been interacting with Trump administration officials.
00:18:40So let me begin by asking you, you know, all the balls that are happening here,
00:18:46one after the other, meeting the cabinet, meeting and greeting the cabinet.
00:18:51When we look at Trump 2.0, what's the biggest win as far as India is concerned?
00:18:59And what would be the biggest niggle? So let's talk about the win first.
00:19:02See, the biggest win that India will have, or particularly let me set the premise,
00:19:08is that Trump 2.0 is going to be all about MAGA, that is, make America great again.
00:19:14It is going to be America first. So there will be challenges.
00:19:17America first is always going to be at the top priority.
00:19:21So there will be challenges that India will be facing.
00:19:23But most importantly, the great relationship and the equation,
00:19:27our Honorable Prime Minister Modi ji and President Trump, they share,
00:19:31that will see great results for India. And in the whole geopolitical scenario,
00:19:36we will see that to counter China and to corner China,
00:19:39this relationship and Trump 2.0 will play a very important role for India.
00:19:44Okay. In the field of healthcare, do you see more, you know,
00:19:52the two countries come together or do you see more friction between the two countries in the times ahead?
00:19:58I think the wish and the hope is that the focus is going to be on the critical issues of healthcare,
00:20:04education, innovation, and infrastructure, right?
00:20:07And organically, as this development and the influx of renewed energy in this space happens in the U.S.,
00:20:13indirectly, it is going to benefit through collaborations, through partnerships in India.
00:20:18The innovation in India is growing, emerging, and reaching back here.
00:20:23So the two countries working together in this space is going to make health accessible
00:20:27and affordable to larger populations across the globe.
00:20:30So healthcare is an area that they may focus on, but initially they're saying, you know,
00:20:36the new Trump team, when you look at the Trump team, the Secretary of State,
00:20:40the National Security Advisor, people who are likely to be either Director FBI
00:20:45or Director National Intelligence, do you see a pro-India tilt there?
00:20:52No, certainly the pro-India, as you see, President Trump believes in meritocracy.
00:20:58And this whole administration is talking about meritocracy first.
00:21:01And that's why, irrespective of the background and the religion and the country of origin,
00:21:07he has picked the right candidates.
00:21:09Yesterday in the Cabinet reception, all the Cabinet ministers and the new Trump administration members were there.
00:21:15But the people who got the most warm reception and who were everybody's choice to meet with
00:21:21and take pictures are nothing but Vivek Ramaswamy, Kash Patel, Tulsi Gabbard,
00:21:26and the whole, like, kind of our Indian stars, I would say.
00:21:30So that was really great to see.
00:21:34It's been four days, remember, since that brutal stabbing attack inside the residence
00:21:38and at actor Saif Ali Khan.
00:21:40Now, he's likely to be discharged from the hospital today.
00:21:42Saif's sister, Soha Ali Khan, in fact, gave an update on his health status
00:21:46and stated he is recovering well.
00:21:48She feels very blessed and grateful that it did not prove to be much fatal.
00:21:53According to the investigation by the police,
00:21:55actor, whose identity, according to the police, has been confirmed as Shariful Islam,
00:21:59slept at a bus stand in Bandra till 7 a.m. after he committed this crime.
00:22:04The probe revealed that Shariful is a Bangladeshi national, had entered into India illegally.
00:22:09Mumbai police also revealed that the attacker was staying in the country using many fake identities
00:22:14and one identity of one Vijay Das in Thane as well, which was proven to be untrue.
00:22:24In the presence of Bandra police station,
00:22:26actor, Saif Ali Khan, was attacked at his residence with the intention of forceful stabbing.
00:22:40Due to that, the offender has been admitted to Bandra police station
00:22:46and one accused has been arrested.
00:22:52The accused's name is Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad.
00:23:23Trump swayed on the stage as well with some moves that he decided to show.
00:23:32Celebrities showed support for US President-elect Donald Trump at Capital One Arena in Washington.
00:23:37Musician Kid Rock performed hits like All Summer Long at the Trump supporters on the eve of his inauguration.
00:23:42Puerto Rican artists A.A. and Justin Biel also showed their support for the incoming president.
00:23:48Actor John White, who has been made in many ways the ambassador for Hollywood, also voiced support.
00:23:57Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk brought his son X out on stage at the pre-inauguration rally for the president-elect.
00:24:04Trump introduced Musk at the event inside a packed Washington arena.
00:24:07X jumped up and down as his father stood behind the podium.
00:24:12On the other side, however, migrant rights groups in Mexico demonstrated against the proposed anti-immigration measures of the president-elect.
00:24:21The groups gathered at the border of US and Mexico, located on the beaches of Tijuana.
00:24:26Before the inauguration, they hung banners on the border wall protesting potential restrictions.
00:24:31So it's the eve of Donald Trump's inauguration.
00:24:40He hosted the MAGA Victory Rally in Washington DC.
00:24:43Thousands of people arriving in support.
00:24:45Celebrations beginning in Virginia with fireworks to welcome Trump to the White House.
00:24:49At the rally, Trump reiterated America First narrative for Washington DC and of course for people watching it.
00:24:56He's going to be the 47th president of the United States of America.
00:24:59Likely to sign a barrage of executive orders related to immigration.
00:25:03It's been the biggest flashpoint including border security, energy and governance.
00:25:07Now, Trump's oath ceremony is planned indoors due to the inclement weather expected.
00:25:12Interestingly, of course, remember who is going to be representing other countries.
00:25:16For India, External Affairs Minister S.J. Shankar will be representing India at the ceremony.
00:25:22And in many ways, this is a historic return for Donald Trump.
00:25:53It's all going to be released, Uncle Sam.
00:25:56I will end the war in Ukraine.
00:25:59I will stop the chaos in the Middle East.
00:26:01And I will prevent World War III from happening.
00:26:04And you have no idea how close we are.
00:26:07Before even taking office, you are already seeing results that nobody expected to see.
00:26:16Everyone is calling it the, I don't want to say this, it's too braggadocious, but we'll say it anyway.
00:26:22The Trump effect.
00:26:23It's you.
00:26:24You're the effect.
00:26:26And as of today, TikTok is back.
00:26:38So, you know, I did a little TikTok thing.
00:26:42We have a guy, TikTok Jack, he's a young kid, like 21 years old.
00:26:47And we hired this guy and I went on TikTok.
00:26:50Can you believe what I'll do to win an election?
00:26:53And we went on TikTok and Republicans have never won the young vote, the youth vote.
00:26:59They win a lot of votes, but they never won the youth vote.
00:27:02We won the youth vote by 36 points.
00:27:05We have no choice.
00:27:06We have to save it.
00:27:07A lot of jobs.
00:27:08We don't want to give our business to China.
00:27:10We don't want to give our business to other people.
00:27:12We will quickly reestablish control of our sovereign territory and borders.
00:27:17We will expel every single illegal alien gang member and migrant criminal operating on American soil.
00:27:23We're looking forward to making a lot of changes.
00:27:29And, you know, this victory is the start, really.
00:27:36What matters going forward is to actually make significant changes, cement those changes,
00:27:44and set the foundation for America to be strong for a century, for centuries, forever.
00:27:55So.
00:28:02And make America great again.
00:28:06There's a lot of issues.
00:28:07One that comes to mind is the climate crisis and the lack of their care and movement and change
00:28:13and making change or preventing or mitigating the risk of the climate crisis,
00:28:16but also just rights for queer people, rights for trans people, rights for women,
00:28:20I think are all things that a lot of people are gathered here today.
00:28:23I am anxious because I know a lot of people that don't, quote-unquote, have their papers.
00:28:28Right?
00:28:29And their family members, they could be your neighbor.
00:28:31And then you could just wake up one day and they're gone.
00:28:33And I don't think that's right.
00:28:34Right?
00:28:35Like, it should not just be like a black and white thing.
00:28:38You should be helping people instead of scaring them away or being like,
00:28:41oh, if you're not, basically, if you're not white, you can't be here.
00:28:44That's not how things should be.
00:28:47Women, their rights are slowly being stripped away from them day by day.
00:28:51And we just have to stand up and take a stand because it is our body.
00:28:55It's our choice.
00:28:56We cannot allow this to go on any longer.
00:28:58There's definitely an anxiety knowing that there's, you know,
00:29:02200 ICE agents that are coming into the city of Chicago.
00:29:05We've done all we can to try to be prepared and support as many people as we can in the city of Chicago.
00:29:10But, you know, ultimately, we'll see what next week brings.
00:29:14You know, when communities are living in fear, they don't go to work, they don't go to school.
00:29:19Long term, that has an impact not just on the immigrant communities,
00:29:22but it has an impact on our entire city and entire country as a whole.
00:29:25Because we rely on immigrant labor.
00:29:27We have our growth, our population, our consumers.
00:29:31A very large portion of them are immigrants that are coming into the U.S.
00:29:35And so when they're in fear, it impacts all of us.
00:29:40Let's go on the ground line.
00:29:41Joining me, Rohit Sharma from Washington, D.C.
00:29:44Rohit, good morning.
00:29:45I'm sure it's going to be a pretty long night for you as well.
00:29:48What is it looking like with regard to how the situation is on the ground?
00:29:51It's pretty cold, I believe.
00:29:53It is. It is very cold.
00:29:55It's minus four degrees Celsius.
00:29:57We have snow coming down.
00:29:59And, you know, it is again, you know, there is a lot of excitement.
00:30:03But this is the inclement weather we've been talking about that has pushed the inauguration
00:30:08indoors for President Donald Trump tomorrow.
00:30:11But, you know, as we were on the ground today reporting a lot of excitement among Trump supporters.
00:30:18Rohit, also tell me this.
00:30:20How many people are expected to come in?
00:30:22You must have seen previous inaugurations, whether it's Obama or Biden.
00:30:27How different do you think this likely would be? Go ahead.
00:30:29This is definitely going to be different.
00:30:31I mean, you know, they were expecting at least there were about 220,000 tickets handed out,
00:30:36plus about another 300,000 people were supposed to be there.
00:30:39So National Park Service had estimated about 500,000 people.
00:30:43But because of the ceremony now being held indoors, they're expecting about 100,000 people,
00:30:51if not more than that, because people are going to be staying home.
00:30:55I mean, behind me, you probably saw a snow truck, you know, cleaning the streets.
00:30:59People are already inside right now.
00:31:01So we may not see that much amount of crowd around me.
00:31:03Obama's was obviously historic.
00:31:05There were about close to a million people that showed up during Obama's first inauguration.
00:31:09But, you know, from a crowd size perspective, yes, you know, we may not see that crowd size.
00:31:14But the excitement that we saw today at Capital One Arena and the similar kind of excitement
00:31:19we'll be able to witness tomorrow because President Biden, not President Biden, my bad,
00:31:24President Trump, once he takes off, he will head back to Capital One Arena where we were today.
00:31:29And you'll see a lot of people trying to get into the arena again today, tomorrow.
00:31:33All right, Rohit, thank you very much for bringing us all the latest updates as well.
00:31:38Remember, of course, there will be members of the general public from the MAGA groups,
00:31:41but about the celebrities too.
00:31:44Many from the industry did come forward to welcome him, appreciate him.
00:31:49And, of course, the celebrations and support that came in.
00:31:52For example, musician Kid Rock performed hits like All Summer Long to the Trump supporters
00:31:56on the eve of the inauguration.
00:31:58Puerto Rican artists as well.
00:31:59Annual AA and Justin Fields also showing their support to the incoming president.
00:32:03Jon Voight, who's a legend, who's been announced as the ambassador for Hollywood, also voiced support.
00:32:13That I'm able to say that Donald J. Trump is the 47th president of the United States of America.
00:32:20And now he will make America thrive again.
00:32:29He will make America great again, safe again.
00:32:34And we, the people, will honor our flag again.
00:32:42I want to thank my Spanish community.
00:32:45We stood tall, we stood together.
00:32:48Now we have the strongest president of all time taking care of us.
00:32:52I know this four years is going to be one hell of a run.
00:32:55I know he's going to do a lot of great things for the whole Spanish community.
00:32:59Especially, we're going to make America great again.
00:33:02And, of course, for this big moment, India Today is on the ground as well.
00:33:06Trump supporters gathering near Capitol, including prominent Indian-Americans.
00:33:10India Today's Gaurav Sawant is in Washington, D.C.
00:33:13And very interesting comments coming in from on the ground.
00:33:16Let's take a look at this ground report by Gaurav.
00:33:19The temperature in Washington, D.C. is about 4 degrees Celsius.
00:33:24But that has indebted U.S. President-elect Donald Trump supporters from reaching the Capitol One arena.
00:33:32Right behind me, if you notice, these are all Trump supporters.
00:33:35They're queuing up for Cuba.
00:33:38From Cuba. Freedom from Cuba. Make Cuba great again too.
00:33:42So, you're talking about make America great again. How do you make America great again?
00:33:47Voting.
00:33:49By voting right. OK. So, you're not deterred by the cold here right now?
00:33:54I don't mind. I don't mind. I don't mind. I came all the way from Cuba.
00:33:58You know, this is important. Freedom is important. Americans, pay attention.
00:34:02So, if you just look around, just look all around you.
00:34:05Trump vans. Trump for president. Excitement in the air.
00:34:09So, despite the cold, what brings you here?
00:34:12Just happy to celebrate freedom. Get our president back in the White House. Turn America around.
00:34:18So, why is this freedom for you? Why weren't you free earlier?
00:34:22I mean, we're talking about freedom to say what we want. Freedom to do what we want.
00:34:27Take care of our kids. Put God back on top.
00:34:31Put God back on top. Wasn't that happening earlier?
00:34:34No. No.
00:34:36Why do you say that? Oh my God. You say that very emphatically.
00:34:39Why do you say that wasn't happening earlier?
00:34:41I mean, if you just look at the targeting of children in America, you can see that God was never in the picture in the last four years.
00:34:46So, it's time to get our country back and it's time to get our children back as well.
00:34:50And the ruining of the nuclear family and it's time to put our morals back in place.
00:34:56So, Donald Trump's presidency means morality back in public life, morality back in family life.
00:35:02What part of the United States do you come from?
00:35:05I'm from Tennessee. Tennessee. Tennessee it is.
00:35:08So, let's talk to some more people here and just look all around.
00:35:12It's very, very cold. It's drizzling already.
00:35:16And yet you have thousands and thousands of people.
00:35:20Are you disappointed that it's not the inauguration is happening inside the Capitol Hill and not outside?
00:35:26It's more important to be safe, I feel like.
00:35:29And, you know, it's going to be very cold.
00:35:31So, we had tickets and so that's a disappointment not to be there live, but it's better to be safe.
00:35:36Indeed it is. So, how many people, because we were told that, you know, lakhs would have been there in the open,
00:35:44but right now just a couple of thousand would be inside the Capital One Arena?
00:35:48I think it holds 20,000 and I believe 225,000 inauguration tickets were distributed, if I read online correctly.
00:35:55So, will others be disappointed or not really?
00:36:00Well, if you don't get in to something, you probably will.
00:36:03But there is another rally tomorrow here, supposedly.
00:36:06So, there are some choices, but obviously two rallies can't hold all the number of tickets for inauguration.
00:36:12So, what are your expectations of President Trump once he's in White House again tomorrow?
00:36:17He will have a lot of executive orders.
00:36:19I think a lot of people voted for him because of the border policies and that's a big one.
00:36:25So, I think people want to see a more secure border.
00:36:28Is that top priority even for you?
00:36:30Yes, it is. The border is paramount to keeping our country safe and for aligning us with the values of United States
00:36:42and just turning things around to be safe and economically viable.
00:36:51So, stay safe and economically viable America is what you're looking at?
00:36:55Yes.
00:36:56So, you're wearing this cap that says...
00:36:58I got it yesterday.
00:36:59Make America great again.
00:37:01And how does America become great again?
00:37:03Well, first you got to look at the economy.
00:37:05We're definitely in a trade deficit, which is something that doesn't help the economy, obviously.
00:37:10So, I think tariffs are really good, mostly for negotiating power.
00:37:14But also, we need to increase our industrial base.
00:37:17We need to strengthen the economy, obviously.
00:37:20But also, we need to focus on the military and instilling those patriotic values,
00:37:25which I think we've lost for at least a decade now.
00:37:28Alright. So, wish you all the best.
00:37:31And I see a lot of youngsters here, which is very good.
00:37:34And I also see you voted Trump.
00:37:36And you're braving this cold?
00:37:38I am braving this cold. I'm from Seattle, Washington.
00:37:42I am delighted to brave this storm.
00:37:45We are going to have one incredible president.
00:37:49Why do you think Donald Trump would be one incredible president?
00:37:53You know, what will he do differently from his first time?
00:37:56What would you want him to do differently from his first time?
00:37:59He knows the game better now.
00:38:02He can make decisions that are firm.
00:38:08He doesn't go back on that.
00:38:10He's a businessman and we need a businessman to run our country.
00:38:15Let me for a moment just show our viewers the kind of security that's been put in place.
00:38:20Because security has to be paramount.
00:38:23Look at these visuals while you have police patrolling.
00:38:27That's happening almost constantly.
00:38:29You also have the National Reserves, the Army Reserves, who've been called out.
00:38:36They're also deployed in this area.
00:38:38And look at this. Look at this long queue at the Capital One Arena.
00:38:44Ahead of the arrival of the U.S. President-elect Donald Trump.
00:38:49There is tremendous excitement as all these people, all these people,
00:38:54they say they've had a long campaign, a long fight.
00:38:58But the war to make America great again for them has just started.
00:39:03Gaurav Sawant in Washington, D.C. for India Today.
00:39:08Donald Trump's motto was Make America Great Again.
00:39:11And just before his inauguration, Make America Great Again caps.
00:39:15And inauguration Trump 2025 is actually selling hotcakes here in Washington, D.C.?
00:39:22Yeah, we're actually passing them out.
00:39:24We ask for a donation for an outreach program we do.
00:39:27We just try to turn people's lives around through spiritual counseling.
00:39:31But yeah, people love them, actually.
00:39:35Is that excitement in Washington, D.C. with Trump returning to the White House after a gap of four years?
00:39:41Honestly, D.C.'s a pretty blue city.
00:39:44So I'm not from D.C. I actually live in New York and Florida.
00:39:48So I'd say the enthusiasm is from the entirety of the country.
00:39:52D.C. probably a little bit less.
00:39:54But people are coming from all over the country to be here.
00:39:56Though it's extremely cold.
00:39:58Are you excited about Trump returning to the White House?
00:40:00Donald Trump, he's the best.
00:40:04He's going to make America great.
00:40:06Make America Great Again is Donald Trump's talk.
00:40:09It's going to be a new golden age of common sense.
00:40:12We also see it as the golden age of reinstituting the principles of dharma.
00:40:16Reinstitution the principles of dharma?
00:40:19Yes.
00:40:20Varnashram dharma.
00:40:21Varnashram dharma.
00:40:22Of course, we have to help Donald Trump understand that animal slaughter is not a good thing.
00:40:28But we'll get to that later.
00:40:30Practice Ahimsa.
00:40:32You practice Ahimsa?
00:40:34We only eat prasad, that is it.
00:40:36Are you a part?
00:40:38We are Hare Krishna.
00:40:41Brilliant.
00:40:42Amazing meeting you. What's your name?
00:40:44Jayanandadas.
00:40:46Let me give you Gaurav, right?
00:40:48I'm Gaurav, that's right.
00:40:49This is from Bhagavad Gita.
00:40:50Amazing.
00:40:51Beyond Birth and Death.
00:40:52This is A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada.
00:40:55So you are a part of the ISKCON?
00:40:57Yes, we are practitioners of Krishna Consciousness.
00:41:00International Society. And how many of you are here? Is that a big group?
00:41:04Well, let's see. There's just a few of us here doing this distribution of literature.
00:41:09But there's thousands in D.C.
00:41:12Together we're going to chant the great mantra for peace, prosperity and reinstitution of dharma.
00:41:18The mantra for great liberation.
00:41:20Please repeat after me, you know this.
00:41:21Hare Krishna.
00:41:22Hare Krishna.
00:41:23Hare Krishna.
00:41:24Krishna Krishna.
00:41:25Krishna Krishna.
00:41:26Krishna Krishna.
00:41:27Krishna Krishna.
00:41:28Krishna Krishna.
00:41:29Krishna Krishna.
00:41:30Krishna Krishna.
00:41:31Krishna Krishna.
00:41:32Hare Hare.
00:41:33Hare Rama.
00:41:34Hare Rama.
00:41:35Rama Rama.
00:41:36Hare Hare.
00:41:37Haribol.
00:41:38Haribol.
00:41:39Can you imagine? At Washington D.C., outside White House.
00:41:40Hare Krishna.
00:41:41Hare Krishna.
00:41:42Krishna Krishna.
00:41:43Hare Hare.
00:41:44Despite the icy Arctic winds, the temperatures plummeting, the snow, the rain, there is
00:41:45nothing that will reduce the enthusiasm or deter Trump supporters from getting to Washington
00:41:50D.C. for President Trump's inauguration as the 47th President of the United States of
00:41:55America.
00:41:56And with me are two prominent Indian-Americans to talk about the India-America journey during
00:42:03the presidency of Donald Trump in White House for a second tenure.
00:42:07With me is Dr. Dayaprasad Kulkarni.
00:42:10Dr. Kulkarni is an arogya specialist.
00:42:14Also with me is Pramit Makode.
00:42:16Pramit Makode is again a specialist in dealing with India-America relations and has been
00:42:23interacting with Trump administration officials.
00:42:26So let me begin by asking you, you know, all the balls that are that are happening here
00:42:32one after the other, meeting the cabinet, meeting and greeting the cabinet.
00:42:37When we look at Trump 2.0, what's the biggest win as far as India is concerned and what
00:42:45would be the biggest niggle?
00:42:46So let's talk about the win first.
00:42:48See, the biggest win that India will have or particularly let's let me set the premise
00:42:53that Trump 2.0 is going to be all about MAGA.
00:42:58That is make America great again.
00:43:00It is going to be America first.
00:43:02So there will be challenges when America first is always going to be at the top priority.
00:43:06So there will be challenges that India will be facing.
00:43:09But most importantly, the great relationship and the equation.
00:43:12Our Honorable Prime Minister Modi ji and President Trump, they share.
00:43:17That will see a great result for India.
00:43:19And in the whole geopolitical scenario, you will see that to counter China and to corner
00:43:25China, this relationship and Trump 2.0 will play a very important role for India.
00:43:30Okay.
00:43:31In the field of health care, and do you see more, you know, the two countries come together
00:43:40or do you see more friction between the two countries in the times ahead?
00:43:44I think the wish and the hope is that the focus is going to be on the critical issues
00:43:49of health care, education, innovation and infrastructure.
00:43:53Right.
00:43:54And organically, as this development and the influx of renewed energy in this space happens
00:43:58in the US, indirectly, it is going to benefit through collaborations, through partnerships
00:44:04in India.
00:44:05The innovation in India is growing, emerging and reaching back here.
00:44:09So the two countries working together in this space is going to make health accessible
00:44:13and affordable to larger populations across the globe.
00:44:16So health care is an area that they may focus on.
00:44:20But initially they're saying, you know, the new Trump team, when you look at the Trump
00:44:24team, the Secretary of State, the National Security Advisor, people who are likely to
00:44:29be either director FBI or director, you know, National Intelligence.
00:44:35Do you see a pro India tilt there?
00:44:38Certainly the pro India, as you see, President Trump believes in meritocracy and this whole
00:44:44administration is talking about meritocracy first.
00:44:47And that's why irrespective of the background and the religion and the country of origin,
00:44:53he has picked the right candidates.
00:44:55Yesterday in the cabinet reception, all the cabinet ministers and the new Trump administration
00:45:00members were there.
00:45:01But the people who got the most warm reception and who were everybody's like the choice to
00:45:06be meet with and take pictures are nothing but Vivek Ramaswamy, Kash Patel, Tulsi Gabbard
00:45:12and the whole like kind of our Indian stars, I would say.
00:45:16So that was really great to see.
00:45:19So here's a special explainer from Akshata Anand Gopal about what the ceremony is going
00:45:23to look like.
00:45:24Let's take a look.
00:45:26More than two months after he was elected to be the 47th president of the United States,
00:45:31Donald Trump is finally set to be officially sworn in on January 20th.
00:45:36But if the result became clear in November 2024, why does so much time elapse between
00:45:42the election and the inauguration ceremony in America?
00:45:46When an incumbent president is defeated, the two and a half months between an election
00:45:51and the official inauguration is sometimes referred to as the lame duck period.
00:45:57This is the period where the outgoing and incoming presidents are actually meant to
00:46:01work together in sync to ensure peaceful transition and transfer of power.
00:46:06But it's a convention, let's be honest, that's often ignored.
00:46:10It's also the final chance for the outgoing president to implement the final actions of
00:46:15the premiership.
00:46:16In most democracies, new leaders take charge quickly once election results are announced.
00:46:22But in the United States, things work a little differently with an almost 11 week transition
00:46:27period.
00:46:28For over a century, America actually waited right up until March to inaugurate its president,
00:46:33potentially leaving an administration that was voted out in charge for another four months.
00:46:39That's a lot of time.
00:46:40Now, that changed in 1933 when the inauguration day was moved from March 4th to January 20th.
00:46:46So that amount of time, that lame duck period that we refer to was reduced.
00:46:51That gap is reduced, yes, but it's still very much there.
00:46:54So why is it there?
00:46:56Let's run you through the reasons behind this November to January gap.
00:47:00First is the electoral college.
00:47:02Unlike most other countries, US presidents are not elected by majority population vote,
00:47:08but by electors from the electoral college.
00:47:11So when citizens vote in the presidential election in America, they're not actually voting for the president,
00:47:17but rather to instruct the state's electors which presidential candidate to endorse to pick.
00:47:23The electoral college is an intermediary body formally electing the president and the vice president.
00:47:29And it's in mid-December that the electoral college meets in each state to go ahead and
00:47:34officially cast votes for president and vice president.
00:47:37So there you have already a delay of a few weeks.
00:47:41And then you have the certification, which happens in early January.
00:47:45The Congress convenes to count, certify the electoral votes,
00:47:48officially confirming the election results before the inauguration.
00:47:52So this process provides a formal mechanism to verify the vote
00:47:56and therefore an additional layer of credibility to the outcome.
00:47:59This time the Congress met on January 6th to count the electoral votes they received
00:48:04from the 50 US states and of course the District of Columbia.
00:48:07The incumbent vice president presides over the certification
00:48:11and then makes the announcement, the announcement of the new president.
00:48:15Another reason, the period between the election and the inauguration
00:48:19also provides time for legal and procedural safeguards.
00:48:22We're talking about recounts, we're talking about resolution of any potential disputes.
00:48:27And then there's the transition planning.
00:48:30So this period essentially between November to January is crucial for also the president-elect
00:48:35who must assemble a team, must nominate cabinet members and begin formulating key policies.
00:48:40This period allows the incoming administration to prepare for governance,
00:48:44helping to ensure that they're ready to address national and international responsibilities
00:48:49immediately after taking office, that they hit the ground running.
00:48:52So it gives the new administration time to prepare the groundwork for their term.
00:48:56Like we saw with Trump also, who during this transition period
00:48:59kept making announcements over who will be a part of his team.
00:49:10The social media application TikTok thanks Donald Trump for restoration and service.
00:49:15TikTok has put out a statement.
00:49:17We'll work with President Trump for a solution.
00:49:20The app has given 7 million small businesses to thrive, is what TikTok had said.
00:49:26Basically Donald Trump gave out a statement and said,
00:49:29hired a TikToker and put the video on the app.
00:49:32Remember this is some of the controversies that TikTok,
00:49:35which the ban had already been implemented by 19th of January
00:49:39and it was a court case that was also going on.
00:49:42Remember TikTok already has been banned in India over security reasons.
00:49:45It's a Chinese app and there had been a statement even from China
00:49:50over why this app is being shut and is this a bar on foreign companies.
00:49:53However, TikTok has now decided to express its gratitude for Donald Trump for taking a stand.
00:49:58Ironically, Trump earlier was in support of a ban if required for TikTok.
00:50:02However, ahead of his second term, he appears to be in support of it and says
00:50:06that he's even hired one to be on the app. Let's listen.
00:50:36So, you know, I did a little TikTok thing.
00:50:48We have a guy, TikTok Jack, he's a young kid, like 21 years old.
00:50:53And we hired this guy and I went on TikTok.
00:50:56Can you believe what I'll do to win an election?
00:50:59And we went on TikTok and Republicans have never won the young vote, the youth vote.
00:51:05They win a lot of votes, but they never won the youth vote.
00:51:08We won the youth vote by 36 points.
00:51:11We have no choice. We have to save it a lot of jobs.
00:51:14We don't want to give our business to China.
00:51:16We don't want to give our business to other people.
00:51:20Remember that one of the promises Donald Trump had given was with regard to the ongoing war
00:51:25in the investigation said that we will end it and resolve it.
00:51:28Amid all of this, a development has taken place.
00:51:31A ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip on Sunday.
00:51:35Emotional scenes were witnessed as Hamas released three Israeli women hostages from Gaza after 471 days.
00:51:43Helicopters, Red Cross vans returned the hostages safely to their residence,
00:51:47overwhelming images of them reuniting with their family members.
00:51:51A Red Cross convoy transported the hostages.
00:51:53Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was briefed about it.
00:51:56IDF welcomed return of three hostages and as part of ongoing efforts.
00:52:00Remember this usually basically means it's not just the return of the hostages.
00:52:03In return, there would have been an exchange deal of either the convicted prisoners or terrorists
00:52:08who would be then exchanged to Gaza.
00:52:10Global leaders welcomed the truce on the eve of Trump's inauguration.
00:52:13Israel-Hamas ceasefire began.
00:52:15Remember the U.S. President-elect warned both sides
00:52:18if hostages are not released by the time he takes over, all hell will break loose.
00:52:23Since the October 7th massacre, our mission has been clear.
00:52:29Bring home all the hostages held by Hamas in Gaza.
00:52:34Today, as part of these ongoing efforts, we welcomed home three hostages,
00:52:41three young women after 471 days in Hamas captivity.
00:52:47First of all, we are committed to release all our hostages.
00:52:54This is the reason why the government approved this framework,
00:53:03which as I described includes heavy prices.
00:53:09But it is clear, as I said previously,
00:53:14that to move from the first phase to the second phase is not something automatic.
00:53:27We have objectives of the war.
00:53:32To do it automatically is to accept Hamas wishes.
00:53:38Perhaps most beautiful of all, this week we achieved an epic ceasefire agreement
00:53:44as a first step toward lasting peace in the Middle East.
00:53:50And this agreement could only have happened as a result of our historic victory in November.
00:53:55That was some victory. Was that the greatest?
00:53:58I don't even know which was greater, 2016 or this one.
00:54:02I think this one.
00:54:04Look, Honest Abe Lincoln. We have Honest Abe.
00:54:08We have Uncle Sam.
00:54:11You know, Uncle Sam shook my hand about two months ago.
00:54:14He's got the strongest grip I've ever...
00:54:17You are a strong man.
00:54:20I said, what the hell was that?
00:54:24But I'm glad to report that the first hostages have just been released.
00:54:35And who knows what's going to happen?
00:54:38I know that Biden is saying that they made the deal well, you know.
00:54:48I mean, that deal should have...
00:54:50First of all, it would have never happened if I were president.
00:54:54Would have never happened. There was not even a thought of it.
00:54:57If those hostages aren't back, I don't want to hurt your negotiation.
00:55:01If they're not back by the time I get into office,
00:55:04all hell will break out in the Middle East.
00:55:07And it will not be good for Hamas.
00:55:10And it will not be good, frankly, for anyone. All hell will break out.
00:55:13I don't have to say anymore, but that's what it is.
00:55:15And they should have given them back a long time.
00:55:17They should have never taken them.
00:55:19They should have never been the attack of October 7th.
00:55:21People forget that.
00:55:23And now it falls on the next administration to help implement this deal.
00:55:27I was pleased to have our team speak as one voice in the final days.
00:55:31It was both necessary and effective and unprecedented.
00:55:34But success is going to require persistence
00:55:37and continuing support for our friends in the region
00:55:40and the belief in diplomacy backed by deterrence.
00:55:43So as we reflect on the news from Gaza today,
00:55:47we also remember all the victims of this war.
00:55:50They were mindful that the pursuit of a lasting peace,
00:55:54while never easy or quick, must always be our calling.
00:55:58I came out of hell.
00:56:01We came out of hell.
00:56:03They beat us, they threw gas.
00:56:05You count your head on the ground.
00:56:08They come at you, they hit you, they throw gas.
00:56:11They insult you, they misbehave with you.
00:56:14We were amazed.
00:56:16There was no food, no sweets, no salt.
00:56:19There was nothing, nothing, nothing.
00:56:29will be done on three important aspects.
00:56:32We have one of the questionnaires also accessed by India Today.
00:56:35Was any other prior offence committed by him in Mumbai or any other areas
00:56:39like cases of theft, decoyity, assault or robbery?
00:56:42Was there any accomplice who helped Shariful Islam
00:56:45in planning the execution and conspiracy for the robbery
00:56:48and if required, even attacked Saif Ali Khan?
00:56:51Who all were the people who Shariful was in touch with in Mumbai?
00:56:55Their statements will also be recorded.
00:56:57Now we are told that the actor's statement is yet to be recorded.
00:57:00It will be done soon by the police.
00:57:02And the police say that they have arrested this man
00:57:05who is currently will be at the Bandra police station
00:57:08for further interrogation as well.
00:57:10And whether it was just a lone wolf attack
00:57:12whether there was an accomplice as well with him.
00:57:14But has police managed to crack the case?
00:57:17It does appear from what the Mumbai police has been saying.
00:57:19But remember what a nightmare for Saif Ali Khan
00:57:22to have the security usually around when you are in the public
00:57:26but to have an armed intruder inside the house
00:57:29and at 2 am close to your children
00:57:33to confront and then step up, take the injuries.
00:57:36Many are hailing him as a real life hero as well for his family.
00:57:40But it raises a big issue.
00:57:42How possibly the confidence and the audacity of these criminals
00:57:45to enter into even celebrity houses.
00:57:47What happens then to the common Mumbai car
00:57:50and anywhere across the state?
00:57:52Cops have said they will ensure
00:57:54they want to find out if any other offence was committed by him.
00:57:58When did he arrive in India?
00:58:00He is being seen as not an Indian national.
00:58:02And when did he reside?
00:58:05Who did he speak to?
00:58:06Their statements will also be recorded.
00:58:08Anyone who was in touch with.
00:58:10Mustafa Sheikh joining me for the latest on that this morning.
00:58:13Mustafa good morning.
00:58:14What is the latest?
00:58:15How will the accused be questioned by the police?
00:58:17What lines will they be taking on?
00:58:19And what are police saying about the modus operandi?
00:58:23What happened?
00:58:24Why are these accused?
00:58:53He has confessed to his crime.
00:58:55As said earlier that he is an illegal immigrant from Bangladesh.
00:58:59He was made to work at a restaurant through a manpower agency.
00:59:03But there also he committed some theft at a restaurant in Worli.
00:59:06And after that he was removed from that job.
00:59:09So he was running out of money.
00:59:12He said that he has told police that he was looking at
00:59:16scanning at the houses in Khar and Bandra area
00:59:21where he thought the well-to-do people live.
00:59:24And he said to have zeroed in on the house of Saif Ali Khan
00:59:28which he as of now has told police that he was not aware
00:59:31that this house belongs to some actor.
00:59:34So as of now the police is investigating with him till Friday.
00:59:37They have his police custody.
00:59:40It took a long effort for the police to narrow down on him
00:59:44about scanning of 500 CCTV footages
00:59:47because he was changing his look there to zero down.
00:59:50On the shoes he was wearing to identify him.
00:59:52And then finally he was dragged in Thane back to you.
00:59:55Well I have to say that the Mumbai police
00:59:57saying that they have nabbed this main accused
00:59:59and this member however raises a question.
01:00:01And they will do more investigation remember at this point
01:00:04about what exactly happened.
01:00:09It's been 4 days since that brutal stabbing attack at actor Saif Ali Khan.
01:00:13He is likely to be discharged from the hospital today.
01:00:15Saif's sister Soha has meanwhile given an update on his health.
01:00:19She stated he is recovering well.
01:00:21She feels very blessed and grateful that it did not get any worse.
01:00:24According to the investigation by Mumbai police
01:00:26actor Shariful Islam slept at the bus stand in Bandra
01:00:29till about 7 am after the crime.
01:00:31Police reveals that Shariful is a Bangladeshi national
01:00:34entered into India illegally.
01:00:36And the attacker had been staying in India under fake names as well.
01:00:40One of the identities was of Vijay Das as well in Thane district.
01:00:49In the presence of Bandra police station
01:00:51actor Saif Ali Khan was attacked at his house
01:00:55with the intention of robbery.
01:01:03Due to that reason
01:01:07he has been admitted to Bandra police station.
01:01:11And
01:01:14one accused has been arrested.
01:01:17The accused's name is Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad.
01:01:47Yes, the last that we heard from the hospital is that
01:01:50Saif is likely to be discharged by evening today or by tomorrow morning.
01:01:55We don't have a clarity as of now if whether it will be today
01:01:59this evening or tomorrow.
01:02:01But we are yet to hear from the hospital on that.
01:02:05But at the moment Soha Ali Khan has also confirmed that
01:02:08Saif is doing well, he is recuperating well.
01:02:11And most likely it is this evening that he should be discharged
01:02:15from the Leelavati hospital where he was admitted on January 16th.
01:02:19From what we know of course the family is going in and out from the hospital.
01:02:23Only close friends and family have been coming at the hospital
01:02:27and meeting Saif at the moment
01:02:29because of all the restrictions on visitation that was imposed
01:02:33a few days back as told at the press briefing by the hospital.
01:02:37We are expecting a briefing this afternoon as well
01:02:40but yet to hear from the hospital clearly on that behalf.
01:02:44Bhavna Agarwal will be tracking all the latest on that.
01:02:47Bhavna, what are past four days have been absolute nightmare
01:02:50and our colleagues on the ground have also been telling us
01:02:53not just the health status but eventually what exactly happened,
01:02:55who committed the crime and with this arrest will we have answers coming in as well.
01:02:59Thank you very much.
