00:00David, good evening, congratulations.
00:16Three goals, three points, you've sent a lot of Evertonians home very happy tonight.
00:19As the dust starts to settle, what have the emotions been today?
00:23I think we're just beginning to settle, slightly getting back into the role and getting used to it again.
00:30Just really pleased that we could give everybody something to shout about.
00:34They nearly weren't going home happy for a wee while because we played ever so well in the first half.
00:41We scored three and maybe could have scored another couple with a couple of big opportunities as well.
00:46Keeper saves one onto the post.
00:50So I think my first half performance was excellent and actually the aim was to go and get the fourth goal.
00:54We'd said, let's go and get the fourth goal and make sure that there's nothing at risk
00:58because I think if Tottenham had got a goal, the ability Tottenham have got, their attack and play,
01:04means that you're always going to be under pressure.
01:06I think Dom had the chance maybe to make it four, but he played very well today
01:12and it ended up a really good victory for us.
01:16Having only scored 15 all season, how satisfying is it to see those first two goals going?
01:21Because they were lovely goals, weren't they?
01:23I actually thought that the goals were very good and I thought Jesper had done well today as well.
01:27He put in a great cross for the third one and I know it ended up an own goal,
01:31the back post and Tarky headed it back across the goal.
01:34It was a really good bit of play for the second goal to play through and LA get his chance to score.
01:39Overall, really, really pleased with the three points.
01:43It wouldn't have marked how we played today, to be honest.
01:45As long as we won, it was a big thing for me.
01:47But in a way, having won like that, what does that do for self-belief and confidence in the dressing room?
01:53Well, I think everybody will know, we used Dominic as an example,
01:58I think he had three chances in midweek, so that's great, the chances.
02:02Today he's probably had the same, got a goal, maybe could have had more.
02:06But if a striker's getting the chances, that's it.
02:09And the goal today will give him great confidence.
02:11But I think the whole team looked a different outfit today.
02:15I thought they played really well, they passed it well when they got the right opportunities.
02:19But we gave it away a lot as well, mostly in the second half,
02:22which we need to try and eradicate, that we're giving the ball away cheaply when we don't need to at times.
02:27Nice to have that Goodison roar at full-time.
02:29I mean, it takes you back 12 years, I'm sure.
02:31Fabulous.
02:32When they were singing that song about me having red hair.
02:35It's now grey hair.
02:36I don't know if that works.
02:39Thank you very much.
02:40Cheers.
02:47David, congratulations.
02:48You made a few changes at the start of the game.
02:50Can you just talk us through what it was you were hoping to achieve with Jake O'Brien?
02:53You were just in front of him, it was a new look down the right.
02:55It was really effective.
02:57Yeah, I was trying to find a way of...
03:00I think most people here, you all know better than me,
03:03have probably seen most of the players and seen what they've got.
03:05So nothing's probably going to surprise you.
03:07Maybe Jake's the only one who's not really been seen that much.
03:11We've got two very good central defenders and experienced central defenders.
03:16So I wanted to see if I could find a way of fitting them in.
03:19It's quite often young centre-backs make their debuts playing at full-back.
03:23You know, a lot of them do.
03:26I did, certainly as a young player, and a lot of them do.
03:28So maybe he has to find his way a little bit.
03:31But we tried to also use him with his ability on the ball
03:34to try and help us build a little bit better at different times.
03:38And at times be four at the back, at times be three at the back at different times.
03:43I thought Jesper, to be fair to him, did a really good job as well in the early part of the game.
03:48How pleased were you with the intent of your side?
03:51I thought for the third goal, the ball got cleared a few times on the brink of half-time
03:55because he usually just played it back and tried to see time out.
03:57But you just kept putting the ball into the box.
03:59You got a reward, it killed the game, didn't it?
04:01It was. I agree.
04:03I think it came and he put one ball in and it came back out and we regained it again.
04:08I thought the cross he got from the touchline was a fabulous cross right to the back post.
04:12And Tarky hit it and we gained a little bit of luck.
04:16Sometimes you all need a bit of luck.
04:19We needed things in the first half, a couple of things, throw-ins went our way.
04:25We needed it, bounced off people and we needed that for us to get a little bit of control.
04:30You spoke at midweek about having patience with Calverley.
04:33Obviously, you hadn't had a lot of chances this season.
04:35When you got that one today, the way you put it forward, it must give you hope for the rest of the season.
04:40It was a real calm piece of play, quick feet in and around his feet.
04:46I think the one he was running away, I'm saying, go on, here's a big channel getting through.
04:50I'm saying, go on, you'll get it right.
04:52But obviously, he just didn't quite get that one.
04:56But then the one in the second half.
04:58The big thing for him is, people tell me that he hadn't been getting many chances.
05:03Well, he's got a few in these games and he's got a goal.
05:06The biggest thing is he played a proper number nine today at times.
05:09He made the centre-halves worried, he left a bit on one.
05:13He was a threat, he was challenging.
05:17He won, I would say, a good percentage of his aerial duels today.
05:20I thought he'd come out, played into him, took himself and switched the player a couple of times with the ball.
05:27I thought he'd done a lot of really good things today.
05:31Hi, Davies. A lot of supporters, before you got to compare Ilman Dye to Steven Pienaar,
05:38obviously you had him in his first film.
05:40Can you see why that comparison is there and what have you made of him since you've had him?
05:44A little bit.
05:45Steven Pienaar didn't score many goals, but he kept assisting Benzie.
05:49Benzie would then roll it and apply it for Tim Cahill, probably, most of the time.
05:54I think Steven Pienaar was more of a midfield player and had a great ability to keep the ball off people.
06:02I don't know Elie well enough yet.
06:04I thought he took his goal brilliantly well.
06:06I want him to ball carry more than he's doing at the moment.
06:10I want him to be an attacking threat.
06:14He can take people and face them up and do that at the right time.
06:18I actually think he's got more to come.
06:21I really do. I think he could give us a bit more.
06:24If you're going to be that attacker today, he scores a goal.
06:27Dom scores a goal.
06:29Jesper crosses one in and I thought Jesper would have done it.
06:32I think he might have had another assist.
06:34Suddenly, your front players are beginning to have an impact on the team, which was great today.
06:41When you see those attacking improvements, does that maybe change what you want in the transfer market?
06:46Or do you still want attacking players?
06:47No, we definitely need to try and keep adding because we've only got one win.
06:52I'm not in here celebrating in any way. Far from it.
06:56I'm in here knowing that I've had a brilliant win today against Tottenham.
07:00To be fair, I'm backing it up by saying we didn't do bad against Aston Villa.
07:04We might not have been quite enough, but we're playing against a couple of good teams.
07:10We ran one close and today we got a good victory.
07:17Going back to Calvin Lewin, if we're talking about strikers, you need to do something with this one.
07:24If you can get him scoring more, he can maybe be part of the solution.
07:28His goals last have been very important in keeping Everton up.
07:31Absolutely.
07:33If Dom's going to be on his top form and begin to show signs, which he's shown now,
07:40you're probably saying it's certainly more likely.
07:44People who've watched this club longer than me will tell you they've tended to a number nine
07:48who's never made it easy for any centre-half at any time.
07:52Because of that, there's a little bit of expectation that he has to be that type as well.
07:58I think for different periods at different times in his career he has been.
08:03Sometimes maybe somebody needs to just tell him to work straight on.
08:08I think it's just good that he's getting chances and he's got a wee bit of belief.
08:12He's finished his goal really well and hopefully he'll take a few more when he gets them.
08:18He had a good header as well, it was a bit unlucky.
08:20It might have just been a bit too high for him.
08:22I think it might have been the cross before the goal, I'm not sure.
08:26It was certainly before, it wasn't that long ago.
