00:00Hi Hench, how did you legislate for the first half performance because you were just coming back from then on?
00:18Yeah look it wasn't great the first half, I guess the majority of that is down to me obviously.
00:25Changed the team, changed the structure. We obviously had a couple of setbacks in terms of player availability.
00:35We struggled to get control of the game and allowed Everton to capitalise on that.
00:43We obviously at half time had a mountain to climb, our feet played to the players again.
00:50They kept going to the end but ultimately fell short.
00:54Can I ask what the thinking was behind the change in structure and shape?
00:58I only had 11 fit players so it was a matter of trying to find a way to fit the ones we had fit into a structure.
01:07Players tried hard enough but it didn't work.
01:12How difficult was it for you? Simpson has been taking the punches all over the place, losing Dom ahead of the game.
01:19Yeah, it's a pretty extreme situation. We've lost three significant players since the last game and we've already got seven or eight out.
01:29Obviously we lost Dom really late just out of training and it's something innocuous.
01:34It's just the run we're on at the moment, the situation we're in.
01:39At some point that will change, we'll get some players back but right now it's just the situation we've dealt with and the responsibility lies squarely with me to try and get us out of it.
01:53Do you have any update on Dom and is it a serious one?
01:58Not totally, it was just one of those things where he went to shoot on his own and twisted it.
02:05We don't think it's serious but probably a few weeks at this stage from what I've heard.
02:13Presumably that only increases the need for more players?
02:19No, I think it was pretty evident before that.
02:25We had 11-12 missing tonight. We've got to see how Roger is going through the protocols.
02:34Apart from him, no one else is really due to come back.
02:38We've got a European game on Thursday, we obviously can't use Jed or Reggie on that.
02:43We're in this situation.
02:49Johnson, is that calf? How long is that?
02:54It's probably three or four weeks, he did it in the second half against Arsenal the other night.
03:00So we're looking at three or four weeks.
03:03And Biss?
03:04Biss was a knock, we're hoping he should be right by next weekend.
03:12Is there any sign of any imminent attack activity?
03:16As I said during the week, I'm sure like everybody, the club's well aware of our situation.
03:25They're doing their utmost. As far as I know at the moment there's nothing imminent.
03:31I assume between now and the end of the window that hopefully something comes up.
03:40Does it become a bit tied in with your future though?
03:42Because obviously you're battling with the team, but yet you've not got the tools to do it.
03:46I separate myself from that.
03:51This is not about me, but what is about me right now is I have the responsibility of the group of players I do have to try and get us through this.
04:01That's what I've got to focus on.
04:04For me to focus on anything else is abstaining myself from the responsibility I have.
04:10I'm just determined to get us out of this.
04:13The club's doing its best to help more about helping the players more than helping me.
04:19Because they're the ones, we're asking some massive jobs of 18-year-olds.
04:23We had a 17-year-old out there trying to win games of football for us.
04:27And others who are just playing week on week.
04:32It's more about getting the players helping rather than me helping.
04:43Good evening.
04:44I just wonder with the injuries piling up, with the results going against you, the fans are clearly not happy.
04:49You must be tearing your hair out.
04:51I just wonder what your frustration levels are like because everything seems to be going against you at the moment.
04:56I've never played a victim.
05:02At the end of the day, I still believe that the responsibility lies with me to get this right.
05:07That's where I sit with things.
05:10Whatever the circumstances are, it's fair to say it's a challenging situation for sure.
05:16A lot of it's out of your control as a manager when you're losing players in the manner we are at the moment.
05:25But I've still got to steer us through.
05:28If I start worrying about myself or the cards I've been dealt with, it's a dereliction of my duties and responsibilities.
05:38It's not how I see it.
05:40I see it as, these are the cards I've been dealt and it's up to me to get us out of it.
05:44I've got to be good enough to do that.
05:47What's motivating you and the players at the moment?
05:50There's plenty.
05:53The club, our fans, our season.
05:55We're still in all four competitions.
05:57It's not like we're in the semi-final of the Carabao Cup.
06:01We've got a couple of big European games coming up.
06:04We're obviously still in the FA Cup.
06:06Our league position's not great to say the least.
06:10We need to improve that.
06:12And eventually our players will come back.
06:16There's some significant talent that will come back.
06:19It's not like this is what it is.
06:26There's great motivation to get through this so that when we do get our players back, we can still get something significant out of our season.
