A headband-like device alleviates depression with electric current to brain

Ceragem introduces the MindFit Neurowellness Enhancer, a headband-like device designed to help alleviate the symptoms of depression. MindFit, which is already approved as a Class III medical device for depression treatment in South Korea, works by emitting a weak electric current to stimulate brain activity, offering a non-invasive alternative to traditional depression treatments. According to Ceragem’s CEO and President, Ki Won Lee, the device generates a low-level electric current—around two milliamps—which is applied to the forehead. This stimulation is directed at the brain. In South Korea, the device is priced at approximately $1,000. Ceragem is working on securing regulatory approval in other countries to expand the availability of the device internationally.

00:00This is a class 3 approved medical device for depression treatment.
00:27So basically, this device generates very weak electric current.
00:31It's 2 milliampere.
00:33So by applying that weak current on top of your scalp,
00:3620 to 40 percent of that current reaches to your brain.
00:40That electric stimulation normalizes your brain functions.
00:44For example, in depressed patients, they have reduced brain activity.
00:51So you cannot control your emotions.
00:55This device can help normalize those kind of abnormal functions
01:01so that depressed patients can manage their excessive emotions.
01:18Actually, it's an approved medical device in South Korea.
01:22And we are targeting a price range like $1,000.
01:27And now we are working on regulatory processes in other countries.
01:32So you will see in other countries soon.
01:40And one of the concerns is that only 20 percent of the actual depressed patients are visiting hospitals.
01:49So it's very low accessibility rate.
01:56So hopefully we will not only provide this kind of new treatment solutions to the clinics,
02:04but also we hope we can provide some more accessible solutions out there.
