A look at how transfer rules could affect Phil Parkinson’s side. It’s no doubt the journey they have undertaken so far is quite incredible but no one is untouchable from the regulations and the Welsh club will have to be careful if they achieve another promotion.

00:00So, Charles, looking at Wrexham this season in League One, they are doing well. It's fair
00:07to say, of course, the Hollywood story that is Wrexham, it keeps on chugging along. But
00:12of course, in League One, they are facing a stiffer competition than perhaps they faced
00:17in the leagues below them. Of course, they did have a bit of a due with Notts County
00:21getting out of non-league, but this season you've got the likes of Wicca Wanderers, you've
00:25got the likes of Birmingham City, who are up there in League One, Huddersfield Town
00:30doing quite well as well. I think Wrexham are still sat third, but January, the window
00:35is now opened and so we can buy and sell players. So who does Wrexham need to be sort of bringing
00:42in or what positions do they need to fill to strengthen, to really push for those automatic
00:46places? Because as I say there, you've got Wickham and you've got Birmingham City currently
00:51sat in those automatic places. But Wrexham, I'm sure, would love to get ahead of those
00:55and get themselves into the championship. It's going to be a tall order, but if they
00:59get January right, surely that's a possibility. But I'm sure you're now going to let us know
01:03who they could do with in this month.
01:05Yeah, obviously, I think a goal scorer is just absolutely vital. You see Birmingham
01:12City breaking League One spending records to bring in Jay Stansfield from a loan last
01:17season to full-time and he's flying in the goal department. Elliot Leigh, top goal scorer
01:23with just six goals to his name. Obviously, it's a bit of a cliché, you need a goal scorer.
01:29They are absolute gold dust, the lower you go down in the EFL and then into the National
01:35League as well. So it's clearly an issue that they didn't think they'd have. Paul Mullin
01:41has been unbelievable for the last two or three, four seasons for Wrexham. But you do
01:47have to replace these ageing players, you do have to get fresh talent, you do have to
01:50go sometimes abroad and look at other players. They've been linked with a number of players
01:56who are more towards the £2m plus mark. People are forgetting that Wrexham's actual transfer
02:03record is just about £600,000, which is absolutely remarkable. It shows how long they've come
02:11in such a short space of time. But yeah, obviously promotion's the goal and even if they are
02:17to miss out on the top two spots with the likes of Wiccan and Blues being fantastic
02:23so far this season, they're going to want to win the playoffs at least. If they don't,
02:29then possibly spending in terms of wages could fall back on them. We've mentioned before
02:33FFP, PSR could come into it. But looking at them, just 1.5 goals per match, which is ranked
02:40seventh in League One. So it almost suggests that they're not scoring enough goals. The
02:45defence is absolutely fine. The best defence in the division, 0.7, conceded the game, 13
02:51clean sheets, which is the most. And as a team like Wrexham pushing that sort of higher
02:56spots, they need to find some more goals.
