The Luxembourg National School of Health (LTPS) produces more energy than it consumes. This award-winning building in Ettelbruck has become an example at home and across Europe.

00:00This building in Ettelbrook, Luxembourg produces more energy than it consumes.
00:06The Luxembourg Institute of Healthcare has become exemplary within its country and Europe.
00:12In this European positive energy project, wood, solar panels and hot water tanks can all be seen.
00:18The project considers the building's positive energy throughout its entire life cycle.
00:24I think that buildings can really last beyond 50 years.
00:31We really want to be positive by including the energy crisis that is necessary for the construction of the building and for the demolition of the building.
00:40It has won a European prize for the integration of renewable energies.
00:48Built beside a hospital, the Luxembourg National Health Institute bets on integration and the automatic control of its different energy sources.
01:00430 students, 16 classrooms and 6 labs are housed under its roof, composed entirely of photovoltaic panels.
01:11They produce double the electricity the building needs.
01:16The other key element of this pilot project is heating with this vertically installed hot water tank.
01:23The reservoir is 20 metres high and can store up to 100,000 litres of water.
01:30In the façade, you often have solar thermal sensors next to the windows.
01:36They look like a window, but they produce energy to heat the heating system.
01:44The building's estimated budget is €29 million, of which €28 million are funded by Luxembourg and €1 million by the European Union Cohesion Policy.
01:56The walls and corridors are made of white clay.
02:00The electrical installation contains only LEDs.
02:04The air is renewed constantly and all the equipment has a low environmental impact and is highly energy efficient.
02:11But how do the students feel?
02:23Since its construction in 2019, this centre hasn't aged a bit, according to its deputy director, who seems proud of the building's facilities.
02:41The building has been built to offer as many educational opportunities as possible for the students' active work.
