00:00I'm still an unrecognized face now.
00:04Where is the love?
00:05Actors are being cast based on their Instagram followers.
00:09You said he offered you the film.
00:11Hi, this is Siddhant Karnik for Brute.
00:25I auditioned to be a VJ and they said,
00:27your content is great but you need to be more camera comfortable.
00:32That's around the time this remix came.
00:34How old were you when you did the remix?
00:3621.
00:37That was your first role?
00:38That was my first role.
00:43Pyar Ki Kahani also, I got to play a vampire which was so cool.
00:49You look yummy today.
00:52What?
01:18History may call me a stranger to the house.
01:49I was always proud to be self-sustained and I paid for my own education, tuitions, everything from the age of 18.
01:57I came up with the notion that boys don't cry.
02:01And that's a very Indian patriarchal thing which is taught to us everywhere.
02:06It's not just the Indian army, I think just generally.
02:08Indian boys especially are told we should not cry.
02:13Crying is for women.
02:15Crying is weakness.
02:17I remember very distinctly I was watching the Titanic and I was in the hall.
02:22It was a very emotional scene where Jack dies.
02:27There were tears welling up.
02:31There was a big lump in my throat.
02:34I could see women crying but I was with friends.
02:37I wanted to cry but I couldn't.
02:39Only later when I started doing theatre was I able to channelize this emotion.
02:44Understand it better and realize that crying is a very primal emotion.
02:49It leaves one feeling better.
02:56I focus a lot more on looks and tone and voice when I play my characters.
03:01I also prefer playing bad roles.
03:03The evil roles, I think there's so much more fun in that.
03:07But I'm still an unrecognized face because I look so different.
03:11When I want to get that role and they are looking for a known face, I don't fit that.
03:16Although they might have seen me.
03:18I guess it's a pro and con with everything.
03:20It's kind of iffy.
03:22We just have to live with some things which are there in any industry.
03:26Learn to just adapt accordingly.
03:29There's now talk about casting this Instagram influencer.
03:33Because she or he might have these many followings.
03:37As opposed to somebody who has just finished their FTI, come out from theatre and is like a much more talented, significantly talented actor.
03:45That's not right in my books.
03:49That is what makes me a purist.
03:52Because I would rather be cast based on my talent as opposed to the followers I might have.
03:57However, the realist in me also understands the economics of it.
04:03Being a producer myself, I understand why that is being done.
04:07I can't be rigid about this.
04:09So, if Instagram followers is what it's going to take for me to be cast.
04:14Then, hey, my handle is Siddhant Karnik.
04:16Please, like, follow, subscribe.
