00:00Santas have filled the streets of Rochester as the Thomas Avings School hosts its annual
00:07festive fundraiser. Students put on their best red bobble hats and walk or run to raise
00:12money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
00:14We raised thousands of pounds over 12 years for Macmillan Cancer Support. We've been
00:19supporting them now for 12 years and we feel like we need to carry on supporting them to
00:22carry on their brilliant work. We've had 85 students run this today and they've done
00:27such an amazing job. Like I said earlier, this is a charity that's really close to
00:31our heart, Macmillan, and a lot of our families have been supported by that.
00:35The Santas behind me are walking and running through Rochester to raise awareness for the
00:39charity that supports people living with cancer and their loved ones.
00:43And their work doesn't stop there. They provide a vast range of information and campaign to
00:49influence decision makers on cancer-related policies.
00:52The Santa Fun Run supports the work that they do, and each student taking part is helping
00:57to make a difference one step at a time.
01:00Students get so much out of this. It's one of the biggest events that we do at Thomas
01:03Aveline for Resolute House and it really connects with some of them because a lot of their maybe
01:10parents or grandparents have had help from the charity Macmillan and they really love
01:16to support it and they get really excited about it as well.
01:19After filling the streets with Christmas spirit and sprinting to the finish line, how
01:23do the students feel?
01:24Tired.
01:25Very tired.
01:26We walked.
01:27Did a bit of both really.
01:28We walked mostly.
01:29But what does it really mean to the students to support the chosen charity?
01:33It's important because there's people suffering out there that this money will help to go
01:38towards because it will help them and it's easier for us just to go out running where
01:43it's not easy for them to get better with a click of the fingers so the money helps
01:47them get better.
01:48Doing something that you like whilst doing something to help others as well so that's
01:51really nice.
01:52It's good. Cancer affects so many people. If you can raise as much money as possible
01:55just to help that little bit more it's really good.
01:58It's very good and I think it's like because we're raising money for charity so it's very
02:04heartwarming.
02:05Well it's just, it helps. It's really important that we should be supporting into these things
02:11and I think we should do a bunch more.
02:12What will you be doing to share Christmas cheer this season?
02:16Cheering!
