00:00The Bureau of Immigration has already laid out the current holiday season schedule
00:04and updates on the mandatory departure of foreign POGO employees.
00:08We know that Dana Sandoval is the spokesperson of the Bureau of Immigration.
00:13Ms. Dana, good afternoon.
00:16Good afternoon to you and good afternoon to those who are watching your program.
00:21In your assessment, have travelers or tourists arrived in the country
00:26for the upcoming holiday celebration
00:28and how many passengers do you expect to arrive in the country this year?
00:33There are a lot of travelers traveling this year.
00:35Actually, we can see that there are a lot of arriving passengers
00:44as well as departing Filipinos
00:46to celebrate the holiday season in other countries.
00:51We can see 110,000 arrivals and departures per day.
01:03110,000 travelers, maybe around 50,000 departures,
01:0750,000 plus arrivals in the next few days.
01:12So, Ms. Dana, what is the deployment laid out by the BIA personnel this holiday season
01:17so that the congestion on the border can be eased?
01:22Yes, the Bureau of Immigration is ready for the peak season.
01:27We deployed additional personnel as an augmentation team.
01:31We deployed more than 30 immigration personnel on the border
01:36to help ease the queues.
01:39We have also in place our mobile counters that are there on standby
01:44if the queues are getting longer.
01:48We have additional personnel helping them.
01:51And of course, our electronic gates.
01:54We really, really recommend the use of these electronic gates
01:58so that the queues of arriving Filipinos can be eased.
02:03Ms. Dana, this year, the Bureau of Immigration frontliners
02:08who arrived this Christmas, what are the details here?
02:13Well, it's a different thing now for this Christmas season.
02:18We can say that because we saw that it's really part of the Philippine tradition.
02:23It's really part of our culture to be warm and welcoming during Christmas.
02:28There's nothing wrong with greeting, as we can see.
02:31As long as our people will not accept any gift or token or anything from the traveling passengers.
02:41That is what is prohibited.
02:43But greeting, as part of our culture, we can do.
02:48That's just our advice to our frontliners is to ensure that we are inclusive.
02:54Even those religions who do not practice or who do not have Christmas,
03:01we can greet in a different way just to celebrate this holiday season.
03:07Because this is really after the pandemic.
03:09This is what we saw, the travelers have already rebounded.
03:14Many are leaving, many are arriving, the passengers.
03:18And it looks like we're back on track.
03:20We're back to pre-pandemic levels.
03:22That's why we also want our countrymen and our visitors to feel
03:28that the country is a warm and welcoming country.
03:33Let's show our hospitality.
03:35But it is prohibited to receive gifts, only greetings.
03:39You can see on the CCTV monitor that someone is greeting,
03:43and you can also see if someone is going to reach and receive something.
03:48Yes, our CCTVs are high resolution.
03:51When we were watching the CCTV,
03:53the immigration officer's nail was the last thing we saw if it was cut.
03:59So that's how clear our CCTV cameras are.
04:02So you can see if there are activities or if there are any doubts in our counters.
04:09So maybe in the traveling public, instead of gifts, instead of tokens,
04:14it's good that what we're requesting to our frontliners is a sweet greeting.
04:21And a hello, a Merry Christmas greeting.
04:26This holiday season, wherever our frontliners are,
04:29they are really making sacrifices.
04:31And even if it's midnight, Christmas, New Year,
04:36instead of being with their families, they are serving the traveling public.
04:42Ms. Dana, in other talks, because December is almost over,
04:46we also asked for an update on the mandatory departure of foreign POGO workers.
04:51How many of them have already left, and how many are expected to leave the country?
04:57There are still a lot of people we expect to leave.
05:02Maybe around 6,000 are expected to leave the country.
05:07And we are stressing, we are repeatedly saying that the December 31 deadline has no extension.
05:15There is no hope that this will be extended.
05:18And let's not make it longer for foreign POGO workers.
05:24They are expected to leave before the December 31 deadline.
05:28According to our figures, out of around 33,000 foreign nationals,
05:3621,000 have already downgraded their visas, and most of those who downgraded have already left.
05:45So we expect maybe 6,000 or 7,000 are left to leave the country in the next few days.
05:53In a few days, we expect them to leave in around a week.
05:59Because if they do not leave after December 31,
06:03then they will reach the blacklisting, deportation proceedings, and blacklisting.
06:09So given that, what will happen to those who will not leave,
06:13especially if some of them already have a spouse or family here in the Philippines?
06:19That's the advice that we are giving if they have reason to come back to the Philippines.
06:23Like that, they have a spouse, they have a child here in the Philippines.
06:29They should comply with the regulations.
06:31They should go out of the country as part of the downgrading in order to leave.
06:36And they may return if they have a legitimate reason to return to the Philippines.
06:44Because if they do not leave, if they do not comply with the regulations,
06:49they will be blacklisted, meaning they will be prevented from re-entering the Philippines.
06:54And it will be more difficult for them to reunite with their families.
06:59That's why we follow the policies of the national government to downgrade their visas,
07:10stop the operations of online gaming companies, and let their foreign workers leave the country.
07:16Okay, lastly, please send a message to our countrymen this Christmas.
07:22Yes, this holiday season, we expect that many will travel in the coming days
07:28up until the first or second week of January.
07:31So we are reminding you to travel so that you can write
07:36at least 72 hours before you leave or arrive.
07:39e-travel.gov.ph
07:41This is free.
07:42We don't want to be fooled by websites that are phishing information and deceiving us.
07:50E-travel is free and you may do it at the comforts of your own home.
07:55And we also remind the public when they are traveling,
07:59departing the Philippines, to be at the airport at least three hours prior to your flight.
08:06Directly at the boarding gate after immigration.
08:10If we want to relax around the area, we can allot a bit more time
08:16so that your vacation will be smooth and seamless.
08:20And you can count on the people of the Bureau of Immigration,
08:23even if it's Christmas, New Year, or holiday season,
08:27we are here to serve you, especially in our borders.
08:33Okay, maraming salamat po sa inyong oras, Ms. Donna Sandoval,
08:37ang tagapagsalita ng Bureau of Immigration.
