00:00to the displaced POGO workers at House Bill 10985.
00:05We will discuss this with the Bureau of Local Employment Director,
00:10Patrick Patriwirawan, Jr. of the Department of Labor and Employment.
00:15Director Patrick, good afternoon to you.
00:18Good afternoon, Ma'am Ninia and Asic Weng, and to you listeners.
00:23Welcome back to our program.
00:25How are you, Director?
00:26This is your opening of job opportunities for the displaced POGO workers.
00:31Do we have data on how many jobs have been obtained from you?
00:38Thank you, Ma'am Ninia.
00:40We are continuing to implement the programs of the Department of Labor for our affected workers.
00:45This includes job fair activities.
00:48This is our fourth one.
00:51And we have more than 202 hired on the spot from our previous reports of less than 100.
00:59So now, we continue to ensure that our IGL companies will be able to collaborate
01:06and allow their employees to participate in the job fair activities that we are doing.
01:13So Director, what is the impact of DOLES to the former employees of POGO
01:17who are having a hard time finding a job?
01:21Are we going to have a different program besides the job fair activities?
01:25Especially now, at the end of the year, what is the guarantee that they will be able to find a job?
01:30Yes, Ma'am Asic Weng.
01:31Aside from job fair activities,
01:34DOLES also facilitates the unemployment insurance benefits of our affected workers.
01:40And as of now, we have reached 435 applications to process their unemployment benefits.
01:48Aside from that, we also have employment facilitation.
01:52We are ensuring that the affected workers will be given to our public employment service offices
01:58to have job matching and career development support services for the affected POGO workers.
02:05Here in House Bill No. 10985,
02:09which provides employment opportunities to senior citizens,
02:13what amendments were made here from the expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2003 and 2010?
02:22We monitored this House Bill which amended and strengthened the programs and services for our senior citizens.
02:31This includes expanding job opportunities,
02:35providing different types of jobs that are available for our senior citizens,
02:41incentives for our private enterprises that will engage senior citizens,
02:46and fixing documents, especially for our first-time job seekers.
02:51Now, for our senior citizens, they will have free access to get these documents.
02:57So, in the context of your work, what upskilling programs will be implemented and developed by DOLE for this law?
03:05We currently have programs like our youth and adult employability programs,
03:12our public employment services, and labor market information services.
03:16These programs provide information for our senior citizens
03:22to ensure that their competencies and skills can be employed by our employers.
03:29We also ensure that their skills can be easily matched with existing vacancies.
03:36As we can see and monitor now,
03:38our senior citizens are often engaged in hotel, restaurants, and services occupations.
03:45Sir, is there an age limit?
03:49For example, if you're 60 years old, you're already a senior, right?
03:51So, how many years?
03:52If they're skilled but they want to work, how many years can they work?
03:57In our current version, regardless of your age, you have access to employment opportunities.
04:05It's important that you have the ability, even if you've already passed 60 or 65 years of mandatory retirement,
04:13you can still work and you're still available to work.
04:16So, we can approach the pesos and avail employment opportunities.
04:21I hope we can reach what the Director said, 100 years.
04:26You can still do it.
04:28You can still work until you're 100 years old.
04:30The weaver, I told you, is 100 years old.
04:33He wakes up at 5 in the morning to work, right?
04:38So, yes, I can do it.
04:40There, the other Filipinos.
04:43Can you explain to our Director the difference between tax deductions for senior citizens who will be employed
04:52if this bill is already in effect?
04:56So, one of the amendments to this bill is to allow private enterprises to engage senior citizens.
05:07In our current expanded Senior Citizens Act, we are giving 15% tax deductions.
05:14But in this bill, we will increase it to 25% so that more private enterprises can engage senior citizens.
05:23So, Director, what do you think should be added to this bill when it comes to the welfare of our senior citizens who really want to work?
05:33You're right.
05:34The welfare aspect of our senior citizens is important.
05:37That's why we are ensuring the social protection components or aspects that should be included in this bill
05:49so that our senior citizens will be able to work safely and have a place to work.
05:57Sir, please send a message to our fellow Filipinos who are watching us now.
06:03To all our fellow Filipinos, job seekers, we invite you to come to our Public Employment Service Offices
06:11to find out about our current available opportunities, our vacancies in their cities, municipalities, and provinces.
06:23You can also visit our online job portal, fieldjobnet.gov.ph, to see the available vacancies online.
06:31Is there a job fair coming up?
06:33We will have a job fair this December 6 for our POGO workers in the Calabarzon region.
06:40Okay. Where is it? Where is it?
06:43We will provide more detailed information.
06:46Just check the website of DOLE.
06:49Yes, ma'am.
06:50Thank you very much, Oras Bureau of Local Employment Director, Patrick Patriwirawan, Jr. of DOLE.
06:58Thank you very much.
