00:00As the festive season approaches and the spirit of Christmas fills the air, I want to extend
00:10my warmest wishes to all the wonderful people across the Walsall Borough. I must say the
00:17six months I have spent as Mayor of Walsall has been the greatest honour of my life. I
00:23have visited many different communities and I have met countless people in various parts
00:28of the borough who truly showcase all that is good in the world. I have met many selfless
00:36and inspirational people who put the wellbeing of others ahead of their own, something which
00:43is always touching to see. I am truly thankful for all the work these people do.
00:58As the year draws to a close, I am reminded of the fantastic and adventurous year we have
01:07had. In May we had the joyous 150th celebration of our much-loved Walsall Arboretum. And only
01:15a few months later, we honoured the late Queen Elizabeth II with Walsall's own lasting
01:20memorial to her. Through the summer, I had the privilege of hosting a charity afternoon
01:27tea, awarding young artists for their anti-little posters and celebrating the remarkable 100th
01:33birthday of resident Mary Gutteridge back in August. I had the joy of visiting Walsall
01:39Manor Hospital to donate two push-along and two electric cars for young patients to use
01:45en route to surgery and treatment. It was wonderful seeing them in the action and the
01:50children smiling and laughing. It was also a great honour to join thousands of you all
01:56for Remembrance Day, to pay respects to those who fought for our freedom. We will remember them.
02:10For my memorial year, my selected charities are Well Wishes and the Children's Department
02:16at Walsall Manor Hospital, the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association and the Midland
02:21Air Ambulance Charity. As the months get colder, I encourage you all to keep warm and
02:29chicken on your loved ones, your neighbours, your family, members and friends. The Mayor
02:35Eston and I would like to wish you all, our residents, a peaceful, healthy and happy Christmas
02:43and New Year. God bless you all.
