00:00There's a lot on the line short-term, and I think pretty much everybody knows it.
00:05They've got to right the ship, they've got to respond, they've got to answer the bell, all that stuff.
00:10And they haven't lost two in a row in over two seasons here, and it's been a great run.
00:16It's the longest stretch of any team in the NFL without losing two in a row.
00:22And then there's the division, keeping Minnesota behind them in the division.
00:28There's the number one seed, there's all that stuff on the line.
00:33But there's also the long-term.
00:39And here is the long-term.
00:41Paying attention to Chicago, paying attention to the Bears,
00:44paying attention to where that organization is.
00:47You know what's super popular amongst Bears fans right now?
00:53I should say, you know who is super popular amongst Bears fans right now?
00:57Our offensive coordinator Ben Johnson.
01:04I would imagine, and I don't have my finger on the pulse of all of what's being said and
01:09talked about in Chicago, but it sounds to me, my instinct and the feedback that I have gotten and
01:16what I've seen, the number one candidate to become the Bears head coach, according to the fans,
01:22is Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson.
01:27And now the Lions come in after Matt Eber-Fluess has been fired,
01:33and whose skill set are they going to be watching on the other side more than anybody else?
01:40It's going to be Ben Johnson.
01:42You know that the fans will have Ben Johnson signs.
01:48I would, I'm going to almost, I'm not going to shoot the boot guarantee it because I don't want
01:53to, but if I were, it would be that on the broadcast on Sunday, we will see a sign courting
02:00Ben Johnson. You know what? F it. I'll shoot the boot guarantee it. Yeah, man, that's a layup.
02:05Come on. Yeah. Good job, Doug. Proud of you, man. But right, is there any chance they're not
02:11going to have a Ben Johnson for Bears coach? Come save us, Ben Johnson. I've seen that
02:15stuff watching the Bears play and they're not playing the Lions. They want Ben Johnson.
02:23And if the Lions offense puts on a show on Sunday,
02:27the pressure builds on the Bears organization to hire him.
02:34Now that doesn't mean I don't want the Lions offense to click on all cylinders. I want them
02:38to put up 45, but remember there's two sides to this coin and this might be the more important
02:48thing. The Lions can do their organization a ton of good. They can basically make a case
02:57to eliminate the Bears from being a possible landing spot for Ben Johnson.
03:03What do we keep hearing about Ben Johnson? He only would leave for the perfect situation.
03:10And if the Detroit Lions take a skeleton crew defensively into Chicago and use two,
03:22might be three. I know there's two bear castoffs on their defense,
03:29guys like Kendall Vildor and El-Khadim Mohamed.
03:32If they take bear castoffs and a skeleton crew of defenders and make Caleb Williams look bad
03:41right in front of Ben Johnson's eyes,
03:46who'll be witnessing it. Would that look like a perfect job? Wait a sec. It's Ben Johnson.
03:51He's sitting there watching the game and he's doing his job. But if the Lions skeleton defense
03:59defense can shut down Caleb Williams, will that look like the perfect situation?
04:06No. So if the Lions go into Chicago and this is where they really can do themselves a favor long
04:16term and shut down the Bears offense, I don't think there's a chance in hell Ben Johnson will
04:23say, yeah, that's where I want to be. Ben Johnson knows what's going on in the defensive side of the
04:28ball. Ben Johnson knows how challenging it is. He feels the pressure to score every drive.
04:35I mean, they'll talk about it in very professional terms, but the path to victory,
04:44you don't have to be Vince Lombardi to figure it out that the Lions are going to have to get
04:48into those proverbial outscore you shootouts and hope if the defense performs at all,
04:57the Lions will be in great shape. But short term, it's important to win the game Sunday.
05:03Long term, it's important for the Lions defense. These guys, these David Longs of the world,
05:11these Jamal Adams, Miles Adams, it's important for these guys
05:21to shut down Caleb Williams to show Ben Johnson this is not the job you're looking for.
05:29That's my theory. Hey, it's your theory, Doug. You know, you can subscribe to it. Yep. I don't
05:38because I don't think it's really necessarily on the field that he's looking for the perfect
05:41situation. I think it's off the field that Ben Johnson is looking for the perfect situation.
05:45Ben Johnson comes from Detroit. He knows what a bad situation is on the field. He knows how bad
05:54it can be from starting, what, 3-13 and moving forward. He knows. I think he's willing to put
06:01in the work to build a team up to where they should be, like where the Lions are right now.
06:05I think the perfect situation Ben Johnson is quote unquote looking for is
06:10the president, the GM. What's going on there? He sees the relationship that Dan Campbell and Brad
06:15Holmes have. I think he wants that if he's going to leave Detroit. He wants to be in sync with what
06:21they're trying to build, the players they're trying to draft, the character, the culture,
06:25all that. So to me, Doug, it's not like if they beat the Bears, whatever, he doesn't want to go
06:32there. I think it's just the front office. And I think the front office of the Chicago Bears is in
06:35complete disarray. They don't know what they're doing. And for that reason, I don't think Ben
06:39Johnson's going to Chicago. I guess I interpret the term perfect to be all things considered,
06:44and that's on the field and off the field. If Caleb Williams has a great game, I think it
06:52could be more enticing to Ben Johnson. Now, it's not like he doesn't see the other games,
06:57but if he does not have a great game against this defense, I think Ben Johnson comes away
07:03from Chicago, and I don't want any part of that mess. Now, I think it's off the field stuff,
07:09front office, scouts, everything. I think that's all part of it. Yeah, I think it's all part of it.
07:17But I want them to shut down Caleb Williams and make this Bear job look as unattractive as it can
07:25possibly look. Now, it's funny because you brought up the Kyle Shanahan, trading for Kyle Shanahan.
07:32That's a job that I think might look very attractive to a Ben Johnson.
07:36The Niners, you mean? Yeah.
07:38For some reason, Kyle Shanahan went to get traded or something?
07:41Yep. Yeah. I think he's going to be...
07:45Listen, for any job opening, they're going to come after Ben Johnson. And the thing is, Ben
07:49right now has earned the right to pick and choose what interviews he wants to even take.
07:54Here's something else that I don't even want to really talk about, but I do believe it matters.
08:00I think one of the reasons why Ben Johnson took his name out of the running for jobs last year
08:05is because Ben Johnson wants to win a Super Bowl and wants to win a Super Bowl with this crew and
08:10thinks he can win a Super Bowl with this crew and thinks they will win a Super Bowl. If all the
08:15injuries are too much, I mean, it's going to absolutely suck if there are too much. But does
08:21that entice Ben Johnson to come back again and say, I didn't finish the job? That was cited to
08:28me as one of the reasons why he was like, I want to finish this job. And I think he said as much,
08:36but if the injuries... The worst case scenario is, of course, they are too much, they don't win the
08:43Super Bowl, and they lose Ben Johnson. The middle scenario is, okay, they are too much,
08:50and it is going to suck. It's not probably even middle, but they are too much. They don't win,
08:54but they keep Ben Johnson. Then there's win the Super Bowl, lose Ben Johnson. Then there's win
09:00the Super Bowl, keep Ben Johnson. We can do the same thing for Aaron Glenn. I haven't heard Aaron
09:04Glenn's name associated with the Bears. That's why we didn't do it. But there's four things that can
09:09play itself out. Not win the Super Bowl, lose Ben Johnson. Not win the Super Bowl, keep Ben
09:14Johnson. Win the Super Bowl, lose Ben Johnson. Win the Super Bowl, keep Ben Johnson.
09:21I mean, of course, the perfect scenario is the last one. You win the Super Bowl,
09:24you keep Ben Johnson. In the parade or whatever they're doing at the podium,
09:29and he just says, F it, I'm coming back. We're going for two, right? Ben Johnson,
09:34you guys like going for two? Well, guess what? We're going for two Super Bowls.
09:37And that's the perfect dream scenario. Look at you. Look at you.
