00:00So yeah, look, I mean, it's, this is definitely a case of we're going to have to move on.
00:07They're going to have to carry on without Aiden Hutchinson.
00:09And I get that.
00:10And I'm certainly, you know, I know that the team has to do it.
00:14And I know that, that, you know, the season is not lost and there's, you know, the Lions
00:21to their credit have had this rainy day fund of cap space that you kind of have as insurance
00:26in your back pocket.
00:27You don't know when you're going to need it.
00:30And and quite frankly, it's a, it's a really smart way to operate, to take all that cap
00:34space into the season and not spend it all in the off season and go into the season with
00:39some question marks and see how you can, how some of your in-house guys respond or your
00:44waiver wire pickup might check a box that you didn't expect, like Tim Patrick perhaps
00:48has.
00:49And now they're poised to, to maybe make a move and make up for the loss of a guy who
00:56was emerging as maybe the best, best edge rusher in the league.
01:00That doesn't mean I'm, I don't want to do a little bit of woe was me.
01:04Cause that sucked.
01:05I mean, it really did.
01:06When he got hurt Gator, I felt like we almost like, did you even enjoy the rest of the game?
01:13Cause I really, I, I, everything that happened, I'm like, yeah, but
01:17yes, I did enjoy the rest of the game immensely because it's now I'm watching, okay, Hutch
01:24is out.
01:26How is the defense going to hold up?
01:28You know, because it's not like Dallas took CD lamb out of the game or took Dak Prescott
01:33out of the game at this point, they still had to play and the defense stepped up.
01:37I realized that they scored immediately on that drive, but they scored a field.
01:40They got a field goal.
01:41And if I'm not mistaken, excuse me, I go to my notes, I'm not mistaken.
01:49There was a, a questionable call that went there as well, or yeah, there was, it was
01:54a, I didn't like the pass interference call on Vildor.
01:57You know, Nowoski had a sack on that.
02:00I mean, there were, there was a lot to like, and they, they did kick a 50 yard field goal.
02:04So it's not like it was this great scoring drive.
02:08They answered.
02:09And then they really answered because going and outscoring them 23 to three, the rest
02:14of the way or whatever it was, it was pretty impressive.
02:17I guess when he got hurt, it wasn't like it brought into doubt that they were going to
02:20win the game.
02:21It was pretty clear that the Lions were going to win the game.
02:24I just, I'm, it's all about what happens moving forward.
02:27I mean, Rex Ryan this morning said the Lions won the game, but they might've lost the Super
02:30Bowl.
02:31And I thought, I can't say that that's a hundred percent wrong.
02:35We were sitting here talking about a possibility of a team that all they needed was somebody
02:42opposite of Hutch.
02:43And now they still need somebody opposite of Hutch and they need Hutch back, but okay.
02:49They do have a chance to make a move and all that.
02:51But it was, it's funny because we had finally seen the Lions start to look like a complete
02:59football team and, and it really was, oh my God, Tim Patrick's going to check that box.
03:08Tim Patrick's going to be that wide receiver three with another potentially brilliant,
03:12subtle waiver wire pickup that is, is going to render, you know, the, that, that concern
03:19is moot.
03:20And now another massive Canadian, I mean, right when they were hitting their stride
03:23and, and so that's the bummer part of it.
03:27You don't give up on the season and I'm not giving up on the season.
03:30Don't misinterpret it.
03:31I'm just doing a little woe is me for a minute here.
03:33Okay.
03:34As long as it's just a minute here, because we don't need this to linger here.
03:38I think this team is capable of, of figuring things out.
03:41I mean, they took some steps forward defensively yesterday.
03:44Like I said, the Cowboys still had some weapons there.
03:47They still had CD lamb.
03:49They still had Dak Prescott and you know, they held that offense to 250 yards.
03:58That's pretty impressive.
04:00And Dak Prescott through two interceptions, the Lions created four turnovers on the day
04:04four or five, whatever the number was five, I think it was an impressive game all around.
04:12And yeah, there is a dark cloud about what happened with, with Hutchinson, but I was
04:17encouraged by watching DJ reader in a Lee McNeil dominate from the inside and get pressure
04:23from the inside.
04:24I was encouraged by seeing, you know, other guys step up and no ASCII had that his, his
04:29first sack of his career stepping up in that role.
04:32And that's a name none of us were uttering before the season began.
04:35And he's, he's stepping into the Derek Barnes role and he's doing a nice job.
04:40You're watching Levi on Zerika who Dan Campbell said, this is a guy, this is a guy now.
04:45And, and he's playing like one he's playing well.
04:48And Josh Paschal getting better each week.
04:50The defense is taking steps forward that they take a step back yesterday because the Hutch
04:54injury yes, but it may not be this massive step back that we're feeling right now because
05:01we just lost one of the best players in football.
05:04This happens to every team in the league teams deal with injuries and the lines are dealing
05:07with theirs and they're going to have to have guys step up.
05:10And fortunately it's a collective group here on defense that can get it done.
05:14The Aaron Glenn's going to have some work to do.
05:16Going to have to try to figure out some way to make some adjustments and how he's going
05:19to defend teams.
05:20It's not going to be easy on Sunday when you're taking on a Vikings team that is very explosive
05:27offensively and you're going to go into it without your best pass rusher.
05:31Well, next man up, go out there and, and get something done.
05:34It's going to be interesting to see what they do.
05:36I would imagine that Brad Holmes probably already had had discussions about getting
05:40an edge rusher opposite a Hutch.
05:42And my guess is in the end, he's probably going to do something subtle.
05:46We're going to, we're going to talk about all the options and there's going to be a
05:48lot of big names.
05:49But if you look at their pattern and things might be different now because it, they do
05:54look like a legitimate Superbowl contender and that's what this is all about.
05:58And if you can go big and, and, and go Ram style F them picks, they, there's probably
06:06going to be some options out there, but there's two things.
06:10One is their pattern.
06:13Is it to go big?
06:14Their pattern is to do something subtle, but smart.
06:18And they've, they've continually done that with great success, not a hundred percent
06:21of the time, but a lot of, they seem to hit one more often than they don't.
06:25And the wide receivers are example, straight waiver wire pickups are Josh Reynolds and
06:29now Tim Patrick are looking like they're going to work out to this team's benefit.
06:35Two is that they, you know, they, they value culture fits so much that we're going to
06:44talk about 10 names today of guys they can go get an Alliance probably have crossed off.
06:48I don't seven, eight of those names because for reasons that are intangible that we can't
06:54even measure, you know what I mean?
06:56They clearly value like Tim Patrick, for instance, when he was placed on waivers by Denver and
07:03you went and read what was written about it by Denver people in Denver, like, Ooh,
07:07I get it.
07:08Cause he's always been hurt for them, but he was such a locker room leader and everybody
07:11loved him.
07:12And he had great buy-in and that fits the lion's model.
07:18And I'm not sure that it can play and he can play, but I'm not sure that, that, you know,
07:25every name that we're going to mention today, we don't know which ones fit their model of
07:28what they want.
07:29Right?
07:30No, we don't.
07:32But maybe this makes them, I'm not going to say the word desperate, but makes them a little
07:36bit more open to, to grabbing and going after somebody that might lean on the other side
07:42that they would normally would say no to.
07:44But you know, they, they've got to trust that the culture that they've changed for this
07:49team it permeates throughout the locker room and with the coaching staff and that the,
07:54maybe they can convert guys that you wouldn't normally think could be buy-in guys to being
07:58buy-in.
07:59And they, yeah, that that's, it felt like that's what the Patriots did when the Patriots
08:03were in their heyday, they were going and getting players that weren't considered great
08:08culture guys and saying, look, this is how we do it here.
08:11Sink or swim.
08:12And guys would, guys would definitely try and take that challenge and roll with it.
