00:00We ask that they survive the series with San Diego don't come out any worse for
00:04the wear and they accomplished that thanks to one of the most unlikely
00:09things you will see and really something that has only happened once before in
00:14history according to up the stats in MLB history two players have come to bat on
00:21the road with their team down three and an out away from being shut out and then
00:26hit a grand slam to win the game okay so it's only happened one other time say
00:34those circumstances again come to bat with their team down three to nothing
00:39with two outs in the ninth and hit a grand slam to win the game okay Parker
00:48Meadows was one and the other was Ted Williams on August 27th of 1955 Parker
00:56Meadows and Ted Williams the only two that hit the grand slam in the ninth to
01:03went with two outs to win a game four to three on the road and I mean it's really
01:09specific and all that and you may say no big deal but honestly the if you haven't
01:17seen the highlight watch the highlight and watch the reaction of these Tigers
01:24because you could tell that they felt it yeah like that was unbridled enthusiasm
01:33that was dancing around the base paths that was guys hugging at home plate that
01:40was a dugout going wild afterwards that was carrying into the bottom of the
01:45ninth inning finishing things off when Parker Meadows caught the out yeah and
01:50then the three outfielders hugging the like they do after every game but the smiles
01:54were bigger than ever and when Parker Meadows was coming off the field he was
01:58covering his face with his baseball glove because it was like he was laughing and
02:03smiling so much he didn't want to show disrespect yeah so he covered his face
02:07with it with the glove it was an amazing moment last night and so wildly
02:13unexpected I'm sure some people once you get the basis load you're always thinking
02:17oh you're gonna grand slam a Ranger Suarez is on the hill for San Diego and he's throwing
02:2398 99 100 gets up to 101 101.3 101.9 gets up to 102 miles an hour and Dan Petrie's
02:34like he's just warming up this is crazy how hard he's throwing now he's having difficulty
02:39finding the strike zone but when you throw that hard you don't have time to react as
02:44a batter you're just guessing it's gonna be over to plate really because it's a hundred
02:47and two freaking miles an hour and when Meadows met the pitch and and it went opposite field
02:54because you're not gonna turn on a hundred and two mile an hour fastball you're just
02:58looking to make contact effectively and he does and he launched it high enough in the
03:03air and because it comes in at about a hundred and two let the pitcher do the work it leaves
03:08the bat at 98 and as soon as the left fielder turns his back I realized that's a home run
03:14I thought that's a fly ball to left field oh it's a fly ball to left field but it's
03:18going 360 feet and it's going over the wall for a grand slam in an just unbelievable fast
03:25yeah I don't know what time it was in real time what it was in a clock but it was probably
03:28around midnight and unfortunately probably not a lot of people saw 1130 ish okay probably
03:33not a lot of people saw the other game was moving quickly it wasn't a lot of scoring
03:36I mean early in the game it looked like Casey Mize was throwing BP they got three runs off
03:40him settled down a little bit bullpen did their thing as they've been known to do typical
03:45Tigers outing man three runs and they gave the Tigers like with threatened it seemed
03:49like they get two guys on with two outs and never score and then that that last inning
03:54and again how did they get to that situation you talk about young players coming through
04:00in that last inning it was a correct me if I'm wrong a Justin Henry Malloy single a Jace
04:06Young walk and a Colt Keith walk and then a Parker Meadows home run that's a young player
04:12young player young player young player this is the core now some of the stats on these
04:19guys there aren't exactly tearing it up but again that's the most timely of timely hits
04:26from Parker Meadows and his season the first half and what he was in the first half like
04:33the fear with Parker Meadows was great fielder his speed is going to be useful in all kinds
04:37of ways offensively and defensively but can he hit and in the first half he went out and
04:43it started to look like you know what the answer to that question unfortunately might
04:46be no he goes to the minors now he's come back and he's hitting the ball to combine
04:52it with everything else and that was such a big like if they if anything comes out of
04:57this season great if not you know our old friend George Blaha and his great line right
05:03there are wins and then there are wins this season in this run there's been two that stood
05:08out the walk-off win against the Yankees at Williamsport and last night's three to pitch
05:14100 mile-hour fastball grand slam off Parker Meadows bat to get a 4-3 win and probably
05:21get themselves off the mat like they would have lost you know more ground with less games
05:26to go and they survived the San Diego series and now it's time to do work the next the
05:30next six games against the A's and in Colorado.
