00:00Public opinion is being gathered in Sturchley over McDonald's plans to develop a restaurant and drive-thru on vacant land off Highsore Well Lane.
00:08The project includes parking spaces and job opportunities but questions have been raised about traffic, litter and the effect on local businesses.
00:18We've spoken to people here to find out their views on what the development could mean for the area.
00:24I don't mind it but I just think the location for it is not great because it's a one-way street and it already gets really bottlenecked on that particular bit of land.
00:32Especially during traffic but I mean this is just the middle of the day and it's like this and this is two-way and that bit.
00:37I've sat there for hours before and I just like if it was just a restaurant fine because everyone's got different price points within the area and not everyone can afford independence.
00:47Yeah I kind of think it's fine like I know the posh people don't like it but they can still go to their fancy cafes can't they?
00:55Anyone else can get some affordable lunch I suppose.
00:58Well my point of view it'll be if there's a McDonald's here there's going to be too much traffic.
01:04There's going to be a lot more people floating about that are you know basically the traffic.
01:14We don't need that kind of fast food there's a lot of independent fast food places that I go to if you want something like that.
01:21There are a lot of expensive eateries but you don't have to go there there's not the only thing we have.
01:26For me personally I don't think it's a brilliant addition to the local community.
01:30As you can hear and see we're already in quite a traffic heavy space so I'm a little bit concerned for what a drive through McDonald's could additionally bring to the area.
01:39As a local resident as well if I do want to go for a McDonald's I can walk to Selly Oak it's less than a mile from here and we've already had some like large supermarket chains come to the area.
01:48So I think a catering visit company I'd be a little bit concerned that I could take away business from some of these really lovely independent shops that we've got and it'll be a real shame to have them disappear from our high stream.
