00:00See what happens when you have an interloper in here like me?
00:05We got Stoney in for Gator today, and Jared Goff joins us.
00:08Jared, as always, thanks for being with us.
00:11So obviously losing a game is not the end of the world, but when you couple that with
00:15losing players, you know, that makes it an even tougher loss.
00:20How would you describe the mood in the building as you turn the page and start getting ready
00:26for the Bears?
00:27The mood in the building is fine.
00:29Yeah, of course, there's been some injuries.
00:31I think the mood everywhere else is like the sky's falling, but the mood internally is
00:35fine.
00:36I said it right after the game.
00:37I said, yeah, I'm sure everyone will say the sky's falling now, but no, the mood internally
00:40is fine.
00:41We will, I refuse, we refuse to use any injuries as an excuse, and we're going to be just fine.
00:47We've got all the pieces we need.
00:48Dan said it earlier.
00:49We've got a ton of guys on defense.
00:50We're going to step up, have great opportunities, and on offense, we're going to keep chugging
00:54along.
00:55I don't know if you heard Dan was on our morning show and got the whole city fired
00:59up.
01:00It's gone viral.
01:01Is that the way he speaks to you?
01:03It's the way he speaks to all of us.
01:06He's telling the truth.
01:07There's no fault about it.
01:08He's being honest.
01:09He's being sincere.
01:10He's being genuine.
01:11He's right.
01:12If we reacted like everyone else outside of us, we'd have no chance.
01:16You know, I know that Jared Goff hears stuff, and there are some talking heads saying the
01:21Lions are done, and I think there are some depressed fans who come from a loving place
01:26that think that they can't overcome these injuries.
01:29What do you say to those people who are just depressed about everything that's happened
01:34to you guys?
01:35What are they depressed about?
01:36Well, that they're worried that the defense has lost too many guys.
01:39Now David Montgomery's out, and they're just like, can they overcome all that?
01:43Sure, yeah.
01:44I'm telling you right now, we can.
01:46Don't be depressed.
01:47We're fine.
01:48We're 12-2.
01:49We've got three games ahead of us.
01:51Okay, Jameer Gibbs, obviously he's going to take on a heavier load, and there's a few
01:55things about this.
01:56One is he's one of the most explosive players in the league without question.
02:01The questions are, can he handle the load, and what happens when defenses are only scheming
02:05against just Gibbs and not Montgomery?
02:08Those are some of the challenges you'll have with him moving forward.
02:11Sure, yeah.
02:12He can handle the load.
02:13I mean, we'll have to spell him with somebody else, I'm sure, but he's one of the best backs
02:17in the league.
02:18I mean, I don't know what you mean.
02:20Like, yeah, he can handle the load.
02:21He'll be just fine.
02:22Obviously, losing David hurts, but we'll overcome it just like we've overcome everything else
02:27this year.
02:28In short-yarded situations, would it be premature to think that the kid, Vakie, who seems like
02:34a bowling ball, would be a good guy to take Montgomery's spot in those situations because
02:38he seems very difficult to bring down?
02:41Yeah, or we just put it on my back.
02:44Let's QB sneak everything.
02:45How about that?
02:46Well, yeah.
02:47When it's real short, there are times I'm sitting in the press box and just sneaking
02:51yourself and you've been pretty successful at that.
02:54Yeah, I got a pretty high batting average on that, so maybe we'll just do that.
02:59Or maybe I'll line up back there, who knows?
03:01What about Craig Reynolds?
03:02He hasn't had an emergency break glass situation, but we've seen him in the past do some good
03:09things for his career.
03:10He averages over four yards a carry.
03:12What does Craig bring to the table?
03:13Craig's been a stud, yeah.
03:14Craig's been a stud, yeah.
03:15Ever since he's gotten here, he's filled in when needed and done a great job.
03:18Had a nice touchdown last year in the playoff game.
03:19He's played great in certain moments for us and a guy that we trust tremendously and if
03:24his numbers call, I know he'll be ready.
03:26When you watch what you saw across the field on Sunday, you had a great game, obviously.
03:31Five touchdown passes.
03:33Is Josh Allen playing at a different level right now, the last month since they beat
03:38Kansas City?
03:39Yeah, what he's doing right now is pretty special.
03:42It is pretty tremendous.
03:45I think even the plays that you thought were going to be negative plays, he was able to
03:48make something happen.
03:49It's tough to stop and certainly, he showed that against us, showed it the week before
03:54and like you said, the last month and he's playing some good ball.
03:57Do you have that chest pass touchdown in your repertoire?
04:00Now, theirs didn't count, but it was pretty cool.
04:03Yeah, I'm glad it didn't count.
04:06I told them after the game, you don't have to go chest pass on us, but I'm glad they
04:10called that one back.
04:12Dan Skipper, great play, but I want to talk a little bit about yards after catch.
04:17He not only reels in the ball, turns upfield, good ball security, puts his shoulder down
04:22and gets into the end zone.
04:24Evaluate Dan Skipper on that play for us.
04:27Yeah, it was awesome.
04:28It was cool to see him score there and like you said, lower his shoulder on the guy.
04:33I don't know if he had to do that, but he kind of craves contact and go ahead and dropped
04:39his shoulder on the defensive back there and finished it in.
04:42When you look at what you have this week, the Chicago Bears, even though their record
04:48stinks, they haven't won in like, it seems like two years.
04:50I mean, they're in a big losing streak.
04:52They looked bad last night.
04:54They play you guys really, really tough.
04:57What concerns you about them going forward?
05:00Yeah, they're a good team.
05:01They've played us tough, like you said, in the past and I think last year, you know,
05:04we didn't win in Chicago, so that's something that we'd like to get checked off our list
05:07this year.
05:08They're a great team.
05:09They've got really good players on defense.
05:11They're playing with a little bit more life now.
05:13Yeah, they're doing a lot of stuff that's good and I know they got beat last night,
05:17but I'm sure they'll be ready to play for us.
05:18Do you try to scheme yourselves away from Jalen Jackson, who seems to be one of those
05:23really, really good cover guys?
05:26Jalen Johnson?
05:27Yeah, he's a great player.
05:28No, that's right.
05:29He's a good player.
05:30I scheme away from him.
05:31I don't know if that's really the answer.
05:33You're just aware of where he's at.
05:35He is a good player.
05:36He is jumpy.
05:37He has gotten the ball from me a couple times, so I'm certainly aware of him, but I don't
05:41know if scheming away from him is really the answer.
05:44You guys really did move the ball against Chicago the first time, just weren't sticking
05:47it in the end zone.
05:48Is that game film particularly useful to go back and say, OK, here's what we need to do
05:52different or was it just one of those days?
05:55Yeah, you know, it was just kind of one of those days, but sure, yeah, I think you go
05:59back and you look at it and you take it with a grain of salt because I'm sure they're going
06:02to do something a bit different and we're going to do something a bit different, so
06:06you try to play that chess game in your mind of what they're going to do, what you want
06:09to counter it with, and we'll have answers for everything.
06:12But yeah, certainly if we were able to finish in the red zone that game, it would have probably
06:16been a little bit of a bigger march in victory.
06:18By the way, he did drop the ball, but anybody who can question whether you can throw the
06:23long ball, I think those were erased with the bomb to J-Mo yesterday.
06:27Would you agree with that?
06:29I don't know.
06:31That's not up to me, man.
06:33The goal is the one seed and has been all along, and it's so close.
06:37You guys are getting there, getting there, getting there.
06:40How much is that talked about and discussed?
06:42With three weeks to go, three big games, the pack is really tight at the top of the NFC.
06:48How important is it and how much do you guys discuss it?
06:51Yeah, I don't know if we discuss it.
06:54We're certainly aware of it, how much the home field advantage is a big factor.
06:58I was on a team in 2018.
07:00We had a first-round bye.
07:01That was back when they had two teams have the first-round bye.
07:04Yeah, certainly a big deal.
07:06Now, we did go on the road that year and win a game on the road.
07:10You can do that, too.
07:11It's not the end of the world if you have to go on the road.
07:13Of course, you would like to get that home field advantage.
07:15You'd like to get teams coming in here to Detroit to play in front of our fans and make
07:20the whole thing go through Detroit, which would be ideal.
07:23It is the holiday season.
07:25I forgot all the details, but what you did with the scholarships that you guys gave out
07:29the other day, talk about, if you can, what that means to you to be able to help out in
07:34this community the way you have.
07:36Yeah, it means a ton.
07:38I've always tried to do that.
07:40Ever since I got to Detroit, to be involved and to help where I can and see some need
07:46and be able to give back, it's important to me.
07:48It's something I take a lot of pride in and try to make sure I can make an impact every
07:52year.
07:53This year, yeah, it was fun to give that to those kids and give them a little tour of
07:58the facility and show them around and see their eyes light up a little bit.
08:01It was fun.
08:02The website for your foundation is JG16, correct?
08:05Yes, sir.
08:06Okay, JG16 if you want to go support it.
08:09Jarrett, we appreciate your time.
08:11Thank you very much.
08:12Good luck.
08:13We'll talk again next week.
08:14Merry Christmas.
08:15All right.
08:16Hey, you guys do me a favor.
08:17Spread some positivity, all right?
08:18We're working on it.
08:19We are working on it, Jarrett.
08:20We'll be just fine.
08:22All right.
08:23Good to know.
08:24All right.
08:25See you guys.
08:26Jarrett Goff.
08:27Interesting.
08:28Yeah.
08:29Interesting.
08:30First of all, he definitely hears what's being said.
08:34Yeah.
08:35And secondly, I love that he hears what's being said.
08:40Yes and no.
08:41We'll get to that.
08:42Okay, we will.
08:43And we'll get to more of your phone calls coming up.
