00:30♪
00:50Since time immemorial, jewels have been a symbol of love, power, and beauty.
00:54Good evening, I'm Lucy Torres-Gomez.
00:56Join us tonight as we bring you into the glittery and sweet life with jewels.
01:00Applause
01:06What do you like more?
01:08For me, white gold. Isn't it obvious?
01:11For me, yellow gold.
01:13Why is that?
01:14There was a time that, maybe for how many years, and both Candy and Anna know that,
01:20for how many years, I've only been wearing white gold.
01:22I didn't want to wear yellow gold.
01:23And then one day I woke up, I like yellow gold more.
01:26I haven't woke up one day, I still like white gold.
01:29Until now?
01:30Yes.
01:31Because if I wear yellow, I might say that I have a benefactor like Kuya Jerns.
01:35Wait, wait.
01:37I think I heard something.
01:39Wait.
01:40Let's welcome first our guest.
01:42We have with us the expert, Anna Rocha of Rocks.
01:46Applause
01:49Candy Dizon of Juby Dizon Jewelry Salon.
01:53Applause
01:56And of course, our very own Kuya Jerns.
01:59Thank you guys for being here.
02:01Applause
02:02Kuya Jerns, I noticed, why do you like yellow gold more than white gold?
02:07Well, actually, it came into my life.
02:09It came into your life?
02:11Yes.
02:12The other day, my fingers were empty.
02:14Okay.
02:15So one day, I was surprised.
02:17I have a lot of bruises on my fingers.
02:21But anyway.
02:23But why do you like yellow gold more than white gold?
02:27I think yellow gold is noticeable.
02:30If you compare it to white gold, there is no white gold.
02:34There is no white gold.
02:35There is no winner in yellow gold.
02:37Kuya Jerns, I will like yellow gold if you give me one.
02:40That's what will never happen.
02:42But do you feel, Kuya Jerns, that yellow gold is more valuable than white gold?
02:47I think so.
02:48Because when you go to pawn shops, they are more interested in gold.
02:56That's an interesting…
02:58Value is more expensive.
02:59Value is more expensive.
03:00That's not true.
03:01Let's ask the experts.
03:03Let's ask if Kuya Jerns' thought is right or if Wilman's thought is right.
03:07That's not true.
03:08Candy.
03:09Just to correct that notion.
03:11It's actually…
03:12It depends on the quality of the gold.
03:15It doesn't really matter what the color is.
03:18If it's white gold and yellow gold,
03:21if the quality is 14 carats, it's the same price.
03:26So it only differentiates if it's 18 carats, 22 carats, 24 carats to 14.
03:32That's the price difference in the gold.
03:35So it's just the same, white and gold?
03:37Yes.
03:38So white has a higher value than yellow?
03:41It's not.
03:42I don't think so.
03:43Really?
03:44It's the quality.
03:45They look at it to see if it's 14 carats or 18 carats.
03:48Yellow gold has carats.
03:50White gold also has carats, right?
03:52Yes.
03:53Does 24 carats reach?
03:55No.
03:5624 carats is pure gold, which means it's yellow.
04:00How about the white gold?
04:01The white is only 18 carats.
04:04You can see it.
04:05The value of yellow is still not higher.
04:07The approach of white gold is more young.
04:10Let's ask Anna.
04:13By looking at the color of the gold,
04:17if it's very yellow or if it's white,
04:19can you tell if it's 14 carats or 18 carats?
04:22Basically, you really just can't tell by looking at it.
04:25I know you have to test it.
04:27There are several tests that you can apply on the jewelry
04:30to determine what carat quality the gold is.
04:35But you know there are different colors of gold.
04:37If that's what you'd like, there's pinkish gold.
04:40That's what they call rose gold.
04:42Rose gold, right.
04:43I have a question.
04:44Why is the gold of Saudi gold so different?
04:48In Japan, the gold is just pale, right?
04:52Let's compare gold from Saudi and Italian gold.
04:56I mean, Italian gold.
04:58And Chinese gold.
05:01Okay, can you shed some light on that?
05:04Well, the color of the gold depends on the quality, again.
05:07If it's 24-carat gold, it's really, really yellow.
05:11So that's from Saudi gold?
05:14You can't generalize.
05:15No, not necessarily.
05:18So even if it's Italian, if it's 24-carat,
05:21the elements of a 24-carat gold is all the same.
05:24Regardless of where it's from.
05:27How do you take care of gold?
05:29Is it true that you can clean it using toothpaste?
05:32Sorry, okay?
05:33Because at home, we have a surprise for you.
05:36Ma'am, what I do is, I clean my accounts using toothpaste.
05:39Really? Toothpaste?
05:40Yes.
05:41Well, it depends on your beliefs.
05:43Sometimes, we want to keep the gold.
05:46So a lot of people suggest that you can use toothpaste.
05:51Some people use liquids, right?
05:55There's a chemical solution that you can apply to your actual jewelry
05:59if you want it to become shinier and more brilliant.
06:03But if you want to do it your own way,
06:05you can just wash it with basic soap and water.
06:07You don't need to apply any solution.
06:09And it will be as brilliant for it?
06:11Not as brilliant as if you dip it in a chemical.
06:14Or you polish it sometimes, right?
06:16Yeah.
06:17Vinegar or calamansi.
06:19Vinegar.
06:20They use all sorts of things.
06:22The thing is, if your gold jewelry has, let's say, a pearl on it,
06:27it's not really best to dip it in any chemicals or use vinegar.
06:31I've never heard of that.
06:33Or toothpaste.
06:34I'm not sure if pearl is really good to use toothpaste on.
06:39But it might be okay for gold.
06:41Which is easier to get dirty?
06:44White or yellow gold?
06:46Actually, it's both the same.
06:48And it also depends on the acidity of the person, right?
06:51How you use it.
06:52If you put perfume, powder, lotion.
06:56Or if you take a shower even while wearing it, right?
06:59It fades.
07:00Yes.
07:01James, do you wear all the accessories when you take a shower?
07:05It depends.
07:06If I want to take it off my fingers.
07:08You really wear it, James?
07:10Yes.
07:11Even when I'm sleeping.
07:12So you sleep with it also?
07:13Not all.
07:14How do you get the other one?
07:16Do you take a shower with your jewelry on?
07:18Yeah.
07:19This one.
07:20Okay, just one.
07:21Yeah.
07:22My daughter gave this to me.
07:25We'll ask our guests more questions.
07:27But just like real estate and stocks, is jewelry a good investment?
07:32Let's weigh the value of your jewels when we return.
07:55My grandmother used to say that a girl is never as pretty when she wears pearls.
08:09She's always prettier when she wears pearls.
08:12Let's ask Ms. Charmaine Nang of Hoseki, who is also a gemologist.
08:16Why are pearls so popular?
08:18Yes.
08:19I would like to add first, Lucy, what the model is wearing right now.
08:25It's an award-winning piece that the Philippines recently won from the 6th South Sea Pearl Design Competition.
08:33Okay.
08:34Wow.
08:35Congratulations.
08:38We hear of many kinds of pearls.
08:40There's South Sea Pearls, Baroque, Queche, Fresh Waters.
08:45What differentiates one from the other, and which is the more expensive one?
08:49Okay.
08:51We have a South Sea Pearl, like what Ms. Pilita Corral is wearing.
08:55Of course.
08:56Tita Pilita is with me.
08:57It's a South Sea Pearl.
08:59The difference between South Sea Pearl and Fresh Water Pearl, definitely, at first, it's the size and the durability.
09:05And how it has been cultured.
09:08Let's ask Tita Pilita.
09:09Tita Pilita, thank you for being on the show.
09:11Thank you for being with us.
09:12Thank you, Lucy.
09:13You're gracing us with your elegance.
09:15With my elegance.
09:16Yes.
09:17Just like your pearls.
09:18Excuse me.
09:20And those legs.
09:22Tita Pilita, do you really like pearls?
09:25I prefer pearls.
09:27Why?
09:28I don't know.
09:29Because, you know, with all my travels, because I do a lot of traveling with my concerts,
09:33it also says something that the Philippines is a good place for pearls.
09:39Okay.
09:40So I always try to wear pearls in all my concerts.
09:43Especially now that you have yellow, you have pink, and you have blue.
09:48Yes.
09:49So it can match any of your gowns.
09:51Which colors do you like for pearls?
09:53Usually, I'm using now the gold.
09:55Ah, the really, really pink.
09:57Champagne.
09:58Depending on what color of gown I wear.
10:00Okay.
10:01Okay.
10:02Okay.
10:03When we say fake pearls, there are two kinds.
10:04One is imitation pearls, and one is synthetic pearls.
10:05When we say imitation, it means look alike.
10:06So you can have, like, fake pearls, and synthetic pearls.
10:07Okay.
10:08Okay.
10:09Okay.
10:10Okay.
10:11Okay.
10:12Okay.
10:13Okay.
10:14Okay.
10:15Okay.
10:16Okay.
10:17Okay.
10:18Okay.
10:19Okay.
10:20Okay.
10:21Okay.
10:22Okay.
10:23Okay.
10:24Okay.
10:25Okay.
10:26Okay.
10:27Okay.
10:28Okay.
10:29Okay.
10:30Okay.
10:31Okay.
10:32Okay.
10:33Okay.
10:34Okay.
10:35Okay.
10:36Okay.
10:37Okay.
10:38Okay.
10:39Okay.
10:40Okay.
10:41Okay.
10:42Okay.
10:43Okay.
10:44Okay.
10:45Okay.
10:46Okay.
10:47Okay.
10:48Okay.
10:49Okay.
10:50Okay.
10:51Okay.
10:52Okay.
10:53Okay.
10:54Okay.
10:55Okay.
10:56Okay.
10:57Okay.
10:58Okay.
10:59Okay.
11:00I mean at the same time somebody's telling me that it's really boring.
11:01When you're not very sure, you grab two pieces of pearl and slightly rub them against each
11:12other and you will— you have to feel uh it's a grainy—there has to be a grainy texture,
11:17grainy feel.
11:18Those imitation or coated ones won't give off that grainy texture—
11:22Yes, it has— it's very smooth.
11:23The thing will become really smooth.
11:25Okay.
11:26But you know what happens.
11:28and this fabulous ladies here is that you know there are very few people I
11:34think that will really go and look at your earrings whether it's fake or not
11:38but it depends on who's wearing them when I wore fake yes it looks really
11:42see they how much is the coach I said 250 pesos you know and they won't
11:46believe it just because you are wearing it yeah I think you'll wear all the
11:50times I'm less than a gang somebody like you that you can tell unless that I got
11:56my meet I'm a magsasabi so you're a pahiram naman no earrings
12:00I say no thank you yeah I know that's not true I think those are just old wives
12:19tale in terms of design what's your preference I particularly love
12:26Philippine South Sea pearls I think you know this is something that we can
12:31really be proud of you know worldwide in all the fairs in all the magazines
12:36everyone always speaks very highly of the Philippine South Sea pearl so when I
12:41design pearls to make it a little more modern I add semi precious stones to it
12:46I put twists of a different asymmetrical cut like what you're
12:50wearing right now which is the Philippine golden South Sea pearl with
12:55an asymmetrical cut pendant on it so that it becomes a little more modern but
13:01then there's versatility when I design if you decide you don't want it this way
13:05you can just twist it around and it just becomes a classic strap which I think
13:12really every woman should have how do you take care of pearls um some
13:16grandmothers say na dapat you keep on wiping them kasi daw buhay daw yung
13:21pearls that's true that's true and the more you wear them the more you wipe
13:25them the more lustrous they become it's actually the natural oil of our body
13:30keeps the luster I don't think the pearl likes to be kept in a safe what happens
13:41if you keep it in the safe for 5 years will it dry up?
13:46the luster will disappear and can you bring it back just by wiping?
13:50once it's gone it's gone
13:52oh my god
13:54can I add something to that?
13:56because it also depends on the quality of the luster of the pearl
14:02the coating
14:04the layers of coating
14:06like if you have a very like a very a good coating maker of the pearl
14:11what you call it a maker right?
14:13it's a coating if you have a very strong coating of a good luster pearl even if you keep it in the safe for a long time
14:21it will not lose its luster
14:24but this is for the really really high quality?
14:26yeah high quality
14:28and some people say you can't put perfume on it
14:30yeah avoid that
14:32why?
14:34I think you know honestly the chemical reaction on an organic material such as a pearl
14:40has the possibility of actually wrecking its surface
14:44okay when we come back we will gauge if diamonds really are a girl's best friend
15:04every day's a new beginning
15:06sweet life
15:07every night a start of something
15:09brand new days and bright new days too
15:13sweet life
15:14every day's a new beginning
15:16sweet life
15:18every night a start of something
15:20brand new ways and bright new days
15:23a sweet life all the way
15:26okay we're back and we're still here to talk about diamonds
15:30with us is Dr. Pai Kalayan and Tita Liding Llamas of Mercells Jewelry
15:35thank you for being with us
15:37I want to ask you first how did your love affair with diamonds start?
15:42for me, diamonds are usually what Doc gives me for occasion
15:50so like for this piece, he gave this to me one time because we traveled
15:57he accompanied me for a shoot in Bangkok
16:02so he gave me this one while I was shooting the commercial
16:06he was looking for it
16:08he was looking for it?
16:09how does he give it to you?
16:11when you wake up in the morning it's on your pillow or it's on your finger?
16:14he gave this to me after the shoot when I was tired like it was 11.30 at night
16:19when I opened the safe, the ring was there
16:24the ring was there
16:25okay, how do you develop trust with your clients?
16:29because that's very hard but I think the most gratifying thing for somebody who runs a jewelry shop
16:37is when the client keeps coming back and back and back and you know that there's trust already
16:42yes, well for me the first thing that a jeweler should have in mind is to know what he or she is selling
16:53so in other words, the most important thing for him to do would be to take a course in diamond grading
17:02yes, I took up diamond grading, gem identification, color grading with the GIA of America
17:13so at least I was able to get to know exactly what I was going to sell
17:21because how can you sell if you don't know what you're selling?
17:24true
17:25and if they start asking you questions and you cannot answer, how's that?
17:30then of course if your customers see that you know a lot about what you're trying to sell
17:37then they will have this confidence, they will develop this confidence
17:42and of course if you run your business in a very honest way
17:47yes
17:48and they will always keep coming back to you
17:53you build your reputation as you go along
17:55I think it's by integrity
17:57okay, can you tell us something about, did you design those pieces, the one on the table?
18:01yes
18:02ah you did, okay
18:03well they're not very intricate
18:07this one is a very simple design
18:11this is just a diamond in the center
18:17and then around it is, there are two rows of diamonds here
18:22one row around it, first are small white diamonds
18:26the second row are intense yellow diamonds
18:29okay
18:30so that's all it is, it's a very classic design
18:35colored diamonds, so you're using yellow
18:37natural yellow diamonds
18:39I'd like to ask Anna and Kendy, based on experience, when your clients go to you, they want diamonds
18:45do they want the simple stud like the younger set, do they want the studs
18:49or do they want something more fancy or more playful?
18:54I think right now, mostly everyone prefers different cuts, different shapes, different treatments for the diamonds with the gold
19:03so the stud is almost like
19:05it's just a classic piece
19:07it's just a classic piece
19:08something that you should have in your collection but you don't have to stick to just that
19:12yes, usually studs, the way my experience is, is given generation per generation
19:18so it's something that is carried on
19:20but the pieces that you purchase yourself tend to be a little more adventurous in terms of design, style, cut, shape and color
19:27Kendy, do you play around with diamonds a lot?
19:30yes I do, but more so I think our store is known for the colored stones that we design
19:37I think each store has its own specification or specialization
19:44ours, although we also work with diamonds, a lot of it, we also work with colored stones
19:51like the jewelry behind you
19:52and the design
19:53right, they are very playful, we use a lot of colors
19:56this is beautiful
19:57yes, it is very nice, it's turquoise, it happens to be your birthstone
20:03I'm starting to like turquoise already
20:06so we do use a lot of different materials and we put them all in one
20:11what can you share with us, I know you've won so many awards
20:15and you make use of materials like wood
20:18yes, we use wood, we are actually, not to be bragging, but we are the most awarded jewelry store in the country in terms of design
20:28so we take pride in that and we did just win 3 awards for 2006
20:373 awards for 2006
20:392 for the Guild of the Philippine Jewelers Design Award and 1 for the Tanzanite International Award which was in London
20:47so we are very proud of that and we use a lot of colors in those designs because we are very very known for that
20:56we have so much local talent here, amazing
20:58in terms of buying the engagement ring, do guys go to your store alone or are they intimidated by the fact that they have to choose a ring
21:07or they bring their fiancé along with them
21:09in my case, the guys usually bring a trusted client of mine already, like somebody that goes to me and they say can you please go with me to Candy to choose a stone
21:21usually it's just the men who come
21:23really, they just walk in the store and say oh I need an engagement ring
21:26and they want it as a surprise
21:29as a surprise
21:30yes
21:31usually I'm the trusted friend that comes along and decides and helps and helps the men in the cut and the design of the stone
21:39they are the consultants
21:40yes
21:41let's turn over to Wilma now and check what she's up to
21:45I'm here with Mr. Romel Palomares, he is the Jeweler to the Stars, Romel
21:52so what do you sell the most?
21:55of course, celebrities don't have time to go to places because they are busy
22:02so how do you do your business?
22:05what's trending right now is what they call chandeliers
22:09it's different compared to what they call dress jewelries, chandeliers, danglings
22:19those are the cheapest prices for their daily use
22:24so I have a question for you Romel
22:27is this the one that can fall?
22:29of course, for artists like me who are not that beautiful but are rich
22:35so we want to be rich, isn't that obvious?
22:40we want to be affordable, is it possible for you to fall?
22:44yes, it's possible because people nowadays, especially in our time, are having a hard time
22:49other women want to be successful
22:51we give them a chance to be successful for let's say 2 months, 3 months, up to 5 months
22:57so up to 5 months, how many gives?
22:59let's say 10 gives
23:01so meaning, if it's 10 gives, it's really expensive
23:04I feel like I'm gossiping here
23:07so if it's 10 gives, is it more expensive compared to just 2 months or cash?
23:12it's a bit
23:14what happens is when we have a small interest
23:19because the craftsmanship of the people, we pay them in cash
23:23the gold that we get from the supplier, it's only for 30 days
23:26sometimes the diamond, you pay cash
23:28the minimum sometimes is 5% to 8%
23:33so aside from the celebrities, who are your clients?
23:37staff, workers of Western Philippine Plaza, Standard Insurance
23:44agencies, everything for the masses
23:49from class A to class E
23:52because of that, you feel like you'll like us later
23:55when the sweet life returns
24:14they say, when it comes to jewelry, once you start, you can't stop
24:18you keep buying until one day you realize that you already have a collection to boast of
24:23let's ask Tapilita, how did your collection start?
24:27I don't really collect
24:29when I see something that I like, if I can afford it, then I buy it
24:33but I don't collect diamonds or pearls
24:36what's the most precious piece of jewelry that you have in your collection?
24:41actually, it's not an expensive piece of jewelry
24:47but the one that you hold most dear
24:50yes, because it was given by the record duet
24:56many, many years ago
24:58and his wife, they're both deceased now
25:01and before they left the country, they told me, never remove it
25:06you know, you have to wear it always
25:09what was it, Tapilita?
25:10actually, it's my Santo Nino that they gave me
25:13that the three of us used to wear all together
25:16ah, so the three of you are a pair
25:19this one
25:20ah, necklace
25:23it's not expensive, but it has meaning
25:26but I've never seen anything like that
25:28that design of Santo Nino
25:30ah, you have it
25:31yes
25:32so you never removed it from the time they gave it to you?
25:35no, every time I remove it, I remember Carding saying, don't remove it
25:40so I just put it back again
25:42what do you do when it doesn't match your outfit?
25:44then you just put it back
25:46I just put it in the back when I'm wearing my gown
25:48at least, you didn't remove it
25:50yes
25:51how about you, Jerms?
25:52well, I also have a Santo Nino, somebody gave me
25:56my producer before, Mr. and Mrs. Hale Balaguer
26:02produced a Jerm special
26:04now, Sharon also gave me this
26:06the horseshoe, it's supposed to be for good luck
26:09and this one here, my son
26:12and the other one, Ricky Reyes
26:15this one, Mr. Jerms
26:17this one
26:19you bought it?
26:20no
26:21no, you didn't buy it
26:23I gave that to you, Mr. Jerms
26:25yes
26:26this is John Knight
26:29when we were in Las Vegas, he gave it to me
26:33now, this one is a secret
26:36why is it a secret, Mr. Jerms?
26:38share the secret
26:40I love secret, Jerms
26:42I know who that is, Mr. Jerms
26:45who is it?
26:46just say it
26:47I'm not a gossip
26:49it's not Shalala
26:50never
26:51never, never
26:52who is Shalala?
26:54I'll show you
26:55she's his co-host
26:56the one from the zoo
26:58okay
26:59and then, that one, the pinky ring
27:02they don't want me to say it
27:04so, the one on your right
27:06there are people who don't want me to say it
27:08yes, why not?
27:09let's keep secrets
27:11so, the one on your right, I gave it to you
27:13but it's your secret
27:15the one on your left, my friends
27:17that's why it's on your right, Mr. Jerms
27:19really?
27:20okay
27:21that's cute
27:22sweet
27:23Dr. Rapay
27:25my son, as for me
27:27my jewelry is a gift from Doc
27:30really?
27:31I accept it
27:33is it that hard for you to accept it?
27:36who's giving it to me?
27:38of course, I'll accept it
27:39especially the jewelry
27:40she knows what I want
27:42during what occasions?
27:43birthdays, anniversaries
27:46it's good that there are many occasions
27:47yes
27:48and when we travel
27:50she knows when we go to a jewelry shop
27:53she knows what I want
27:55because I'll measure it
27:57so, before we leave the place
28:01she'll get it for me
28:03Tita Eding
28:04let's ask Tita Eding
28:06when should a mom give her children diamonds?
28:09usually, for children
28:11you usually give colored stones
28:14like the birthstone
28:16yes
28:17because, you know
28:19most of the time, they will lose it
28:23so, what's the perfect age?
28:25well, when they're older, of course
28:27on their birthdays, Christmas
28:29Tita Eding, I have a question
28:31why is the diamond engagement ring
28:33popular?
28:35because it's expensive?
28:37actually, that culture goes way back
28:40centuries ago
28:42and it has, I think
28:46gone to all the countries
28:49and
28:50it was passed on
28:51yes
28:52it has to be diamond for engagement
28:54not really
28:55not necessarily
28:56my engagement ring
28:57yours is a blue sapphire
28:58yes
28:59in England or in Europe
29:02they usually use blue sapphires
29:04oh, I'm from England
29:08I remember the one of Princess Diana
29:11was a blue sapphire
29:12yes
29:13yes
29:14you know, I'm very lucky, Lucy
29:16because, you know
29:17I have seven grandchildren
29:19yes
29:20so, that's five girls and two boys
29:22I don't really have to buy diamonds
29:24for the girls
29:26for the girls
29:27because
29:28their
29:29Annabelle Rama
29:30is the one who gives them every year
29:32I love you
29:33make them a little bit bigger
29:34and a little bit bigger
29:35for the girls
29:36because Tita Annabelle really
29:38you should have invited
29:39excuse me
29:40we should have invited
29:41Annabelle Rama
29:42yes
29:43she gave me this
29:45really?
29:46and also Mommy Elaine Cuneta
29:48gave me also
29:49oh
29:50everything is delicious
29:52my daughter, my youngest
29:5411 years old
29:55about your question
29:56when's the right time
29:57when do you start them
29:58and also
29:59she was very irresponsible
30:01before
30:02before I gave her diamonds
30:04actually, we don't want to buy from Doc
30:06and then
30:07she said
30:08I'll promise to keep it
30:09so, on one of our travels
30:11she saw
30:123.5 carats
30:14stud
30:15round
30:16in platinum setting
30:17we really don't want to buy from Doc
30:19so, she used her allowance
30:20she said
30:21promise, promise
30:22I'll pay you
30:23she paid us when we arrived
30:24and she's
30:25more than 2 years
30:26to this day
30:27she still has it
30:28that's nice
30:29and when is the right time
30:30to buy jewelry
30:32is there a timing
30:33and coordination yet
30:34but
30:35before you answer that
30:36or before they answer that
30:37Wilma
30:38we will have more intriguing secrets
30:39and precious jewels
30:40when we return
30:54let's ask
30:55let's ask Candy
30:56and Anna
30:57how do you start a collection
30:58also, Charmaine
30:59feel free to
31:00I would, of course
31:01start out with
31:02diamonds
31:03that's me
31:04that's personal
31:05ah, really?
31:06diamond
31:07you're really a diamond girl
31:08no, not necessarily
31:09but I think every woman
31:10should have
31:11at least a pair
31:12or set
31:13of diamond
31:14I would go for
31:15a birthstone
31:16which mine is
31:17ruby
31:18I would go for
31:19a pearl set
31:20yes
31:21and
31:22for everyday earrings
31:23I would suppose
31:24or everyday wear
31:25just have gold
31:26right
31:27yellow
31:28and then white
31:29that's basic for me
31:30the five basic
31:31what about you
31:32well, basically
31:33for me
31:34it's the same
31:35it's the same set
31:36but I also would like
31:37to add something
31:38even if you just have
31:39simple gold studs
31:40if anybody
31:41has given you anything
31:42be it semi-precious
31:43or not
31:44it starts a collection
31:45for me
31:46it's more
31:47from who
31:48and when
31:49was it given
31:50rather than
31:51what it really is worth
31:52yes
31:53so for me
31:54it should be that
31:55yeah
31:56so usually
31:57especially during
31:58our Lola's times
31:59remember
32:00your Lola gave you
32:01so many of those
32:02olden style earrings
32:03yes
32:04those things I think
32:05are just as
32:06valuable as diamonds
32:07so
32:08to start a collection
32:09I think
32:10is to just value
32:11whatever is given to you
32:12in any form
32:13of adornment
32:14so I think
32:15anybody
32:16can start a collection
32:17let's ask
32:18Charmaine
32:19when did you start
32:20buying for yourself
32:21yes
32:22ever since
32:23I was young
32:24I think I was already
32:25introduced
32:26because my mom
32:27personally
32:28she loves jewelry
32:29ah
32:30so it was passed
32:31on to you
32:32that love
32:33yeah
32:34the love
32:35and the passion
32:36for jewelry
32:37was passed on to me
32:38and when I was
32:39in high school
32:40I already
32:41saved up
32:42my allowances
32:43and sometimes
32:44if I go to
32:45abroad
32:46or some
32:47jewelry store
32:48and I'll see
32:49a little
32:51so Miss Pai
32:52it's you
32:53of course
32:54it's Doc
32:55yes
32:56and that's
32:57the good thing
32:58because I have
32:59three girls
33:00so you know
33:01you have something
33:02to give
33:03plus
33:04now
33:05I have
33:06stuffs
33:07like
33:08my old
33:09daily jewelry
33:10they already
33:11use that
33:12okay
33:13that's their
33:14practice
33:15are there
33:16trends
33:17in jewelry
33:18like for this
33:19I was just
33:20in the last
33:21show right
33:22in Singapore
33:23and they
33:24set up
33:25what they call
33:26a Pantone
33:27color trend
33:28Pantone
33:29color
33:30yes
33:31which is
33:32a setting
33:33of the
33:34color trend
33:35for this year
33:36there are
33:37specific colors
33:38and they're
33:39given names
33:40like silver peony
33:41silver peony
33:42so metallic
33:43yeah it's metallic
33:44and a greenish
33:45which is almost
33:46like an apple green
33:47and Candy
33:48what about the
33:49Kunzite
33:50it's a very
33:51popular stone now
33:52can you tell them
33:53what the Kunzite is
33:54Kunzite is
33:55actually was worn
33:56by the model
33:57earlier on
33:58it's got a
33:59pinkish hue to it
34:00very good fire
34:01and why is it
34:02so popular
34:03generally
34:04based on experience
34:05Filipinos
34:06love color pink
34:07really
34:08and
34:09no matter the age
34:10we're very
34:11attracted to the
34:12pink hue
34:13yeah I'm very
34:14attracted to pink
34:15right
34:16I have a question
34:17why is it
34:18so popular
34:19it's not a
34:20South Sea pearl
34:21because it's expensive
34:22right
34:23we know it has
34:24value but
34:25why is it not
34:26sold
34:27okay because
34:28here in the
34:29Philippines
34:30a lot of the
34:31pawn shop owners
34:32are not
34:33they're not
34:34trained or
34:35not
34:36they're not
34:37they don't know
34:38how to evaluate
34:39the quality
34:40and the market
34:41value of pearls
34:42no appraisal
34:43so for that
34:44reason alone
34:45they don't
34:46sell it
34:47because if
34:48they get it
34:49they're broke
34:50they cannot sell
34:51it again
34:52is it safe to
34:53say that next to
34:54diamonds pearls
34:55are the most
34:56preferred
34:57precious store
34:58I beg to
34:59disagree
35:00I think
35:01lately now
35:02the market
35:03has shown
35:04in fact it
35:05has shown
35:06itself in the
35:07numbers
35:08that semi-precious
35:09gems are
35:10quickly catching
35:11up with the
35:12diamonds
35:13in fact it's
35:14the alternative
35:15price
35:16and you know
35:17it's not
35:18overwhelmingly
35:19expensive
35:20because a
35:21diamond in a
35:22carat
35:23over a very
35:24expensive
35:25what about
35:26shape
35:27the heart
35:28shape
35:29the diamond
35:30the pear
35:31shape
35:32the most
35:33popular is
35:34the round
35:35is it more
35:36expensive
35:37well because
35:38it's on demand
35:39yeah because
35:40of demand
35:41ah so it's
35:42not because
35:43not because
35:44it's not very
35:45popular with
35:46it's a
35:47misnomer
35:48how about
35:49that diamond
35:50yellowish
35:51yellow diamonds
35:52yellowish
35:53very expensive
35:54intense yellow
35:55natural
35:56if it is
35:57natural
35:58intense yellow
35:59it is very
36:00expensive
36:01intense has to
36:02be what
36:03canary yellow
36:04right
36:05yes
36:06pretty much
36:07intense
36:08color diamonds
36:09are they more
36:10expensive
36:11color diamonds
36:12the intense
36:14the colored
36:15natural diamonds
36:16are more
36:17expensive
36:18expensive
36:19because they're
36:20rare
36:21natural
36:22okay before we
36:23end this segment
36:24I'd like to ask
36:25any of the guests
36:26if you would
36:27like to share
36:28if you have
36:29one piece in
36:30your collection
36:31that's really
36:32really special
36:33well I'll
36:34start with my
36:35ruby ring
36:36that's the
36:37only thing that
36:38I really love
36:39to wear and
36:40I'll never ever
36:41sell
36:42okay
36:43tita eding I
36:44want to know
36:45what's the most
36:46precious item in
36:47your collection
36:48actually I've
36:49given most of my
36:50jewelry already to
36:51my children
36:52yes
36:53so I have only
36:54this pair of
36:55earrings that I'm
36:56always using all
36:57the time
36:58that one
36:59yeah which is
37:00sketchy earrings
37:01with a center
37:02diamond
37:03oh how nice
37:04it's pearl
37:05it's a pearl
37:06and then there's
37:07a diamond in
37:08the middle
37:09yeah
37:10but I just
37:11don't know
37:12why
37:13well actually you
37:14know a catchy
37:15pearl is not easy
37:16to find
37:17I mean the
37:18shape
37:19yeah
37:20the shape
37:21this is a natural
37:22pearl
37:23yeah
37:24and to get a
37:25pair and about
37:26the same
37:27size and shape
37:28is very very
37:29difficult
37:30was that a
37:31gift tita eding
37:32or no
37:33no
37:34it's expensive
37:35everyone seems to
37:36be buying their
37:37own jewelry already
37:38not really that
37:39expensive
37:41I have a favorite
37:42I wear it on special
37:43occasions
37:44it's not yet
37:45that?
37:46it's around
37:4710 karat
37:48each with a
37:49match ring
37:50so when special
37:51occasions
37:52that's really
37:53because when
37:54I wear it
37:55you can buy that
37:56too
37:57it's a gift
37:58gift
37:59so when I wear
38:00that
38:01that's what
38:02I notice
38:03not me
38:04like wow
