00:00Hello from the Bureau with your National Weather Forecast, looking at conditions heading into
00:03Monday night and then tomorrow, Tuesday the 10th of December.
00:07First tonight, showers and thunderstorms are expected across large parts of the middle
00:10of the country, so we may be issuing severe thunderstorm warnings for these, all the way
00:14from northeast New South Wales into southern Queensland, the interior, and Western Australia.
00:20We could also see areas of rain developing across southern Queensland, particularly through
00:24the Darling Downs, so keep an eye on the latest Severe Weather Update video, especially as
00:28thunderstorms are expected to continue heading into tomorrow.
00:32And off the northwest coast of Australia, we are monitoring a tropical low, which at
00:35this stage has a low to moderate or 10-25% chance of developing into a tropical cyclone,
00:41but at this stage the system is expected to remain offshore.
00:44Mostly dry for the rest of the country tonight, just a few showers for the top end and also
00:48the far southwest corner of Tasmania.
00:51Heading into tomorrow, Tuesday, we see a ridge of high pressure extending further towards
00:55the east across the south of the country.
00:57This will push showers and a few clouds about the Victorian and Tasmanian coastline, as
01:02well as cooler southwesterly winds, but on the other side of the ridge, we will see hot
01:06easterly winds pouring over the far southwest of WA.
01:10By tomorrow afternoon, showers and thunderstorms will redevelop across large parts of the east
01:14and the north of the country, with further severe thunderstorm warnings expected to be
01:18issued.
01:19So now a state by state look, starting off with Queensland, showers, areas of rain and
01:23thunderstorms for the southeast from the morning, but by the afternoon, thunderstorms
01:27will become more widespread through the centre and the northwest of the state, and there
01:31is a risk of heavy rainfall with thunderstorms.
01:33Away from storms though, hot, with heatwave conditions and maximum temperatures 2-5 degrees
01:37above average for northern parts of the state.
01:40For Brisbane, a shower and a possible storm with a top of 30.
01:44For NSW, showers and storms for the northeast of the state.
01:47There is a risk of damaging winds, large hail and heavy rainfall, particularly between Grafton
01:51and Coffs Harbour.
01:53A few showers for the south coast and southern ranges, but with the rest of NSW, warm and
01:57sunny.
01:58Sunny and 26 in Sydney, sunny and 29 for Canberra.
02:01For Victoria, with those cool southwesterly winds, we will see cloud and just a few light
02:05showers about the coast in the morning, including for Melbourne, but by the afternoon, sunny
02:09afternoon breaks will return, and it will be quite warm and sunny north of the divide,
02:13reaching the high 20s to even low 30s.
02:16For Tasmania, a windy start.
02:18Showers across much of the state to start.
02:20Those showers will become more isolated and contract to the west coast by the afternoon.
02:24For Hobart, a few showers, clearing off lead in the day and a top of 18 degrees.
02:28For South Australia, a little bit of morning cloud about the coast, it will be a cool start
02:32for some areas, but then we will see a warm and mostly sunny day, 27 degrees in Adelaide,
02:37warmer in the north, with just a chance of a thunderstorm about the far northwest of
02:40the state.
02:41For Western Australia, we will see a few showers and storms about the south in the morning,
02:45but they will become more widespread into the afternoon, particularly through the Gascoyne
02:49and Pilbara.
02:50Away from the storms though, very hot for the southwest of the state, with low to severe
02:54intensity heatwave conditions, sunny and hot in Perth, and a top of 36.
02:58Finally, across northern Australia, widespread storms for the Kimberley and Top End, but
03:02it will be a little bit dry about the Gulf Country, with hot conditions continuing.
