00:00This has been a shocking circumstance for every Australian.
00:06People who are watching the scenes unfold here really are devastated because most Australians
00:11have in their heart love not hate and when you look at the devastation that's been wreaked
00:17upon a place of worship, it has no place in our country whatsoever.
00:22This is obviously now a terrorist attack as has been acknowledged eventually by the
00:29Prime Minister and I want to thank the authorities here in Victoria as well as the Australian
00:34Federal Police and others who will be working day and night to bring the people to account
00:39for this atrocious act.
00:42When you hear of the impact on young children, elderly parents within the community, it truly
00:48is an abomination.
00:49How do you explain to a 7 or 8 year old Jewish child that their place of worship is attacked
00:56in this way?
00:57How do you explain to them that there are armed guards at their school protecting them
01:01from a similar attack?
01:02I think we all need to come together and make sure that we can call out evil where we see
01:07it and this really is evil and we need to make sure that the antisemitism that has now
01:12become commonplace in our society is repelled at every opportunity and we need to make sure
01:18that as a society we stand united with the Jewish community and let them know that we
01:24do not tolerate any act of antisemitism in our country and that's the reason for my presence
01:31here today.
