00:00This is a tragic day for the Australian Jewish community and Melbourne Jewish community and
00:08the Adas community as well.
00:12We have been warning about the risk of this for the last year since 7 October.
00:19We've seen more than 2,000 incidents against the Jewish community and now we see a hate-filled
00:28attack against a synagogue, a firebombing of a synagogue.
00:36Prior to 7 October we never thought this would come to Australia and now it has.
00:43There is absolutely no way that we can, that any rational person can justify what has happened
00:54here today.
00:56I'm not surprised, none of the Jewish community is surprised.
01:00We've known this has been coming.
01:07There is something sick in our society that this has occurred.
01:12I'm pleased to say that I've been getting phone calls this morning from the Hindu community,
01:18from other people, from good people that are prepared to stand up and that's my message
01:22for this morning to Australia, to the good people of Australia.
01:29Don't leave the Jewish community behind.
01:32Don't isolate us.
01:34Don't leave us exposed to the risk of attacks upon our religious institutions, our communal
01:41institutions.
01:43Stand with us.
01:44Stand against this hate and stand against this kind of horrendous attack which should
01:51not occur on Australian soil.
