00:00This is a continuation of the National Kidney Transplant Institute's study.

00:04These studies are not only for dialysis, but also for organ transplants,

00:09which have already contributed to the lives of many Filipinos.

00:12BN Manalo is in the center of the news.

00:16Francesca almost lost hope after having various complications

00:21in two years of fighting against the disease of autoimmune disease.

00:25I felt very weak.

00:27I was always at home.

00:30I could not do any normal activities.

00:33It almost brought me to the brink of death.

00:37Francesca's liver was damaged.

00:40Because of that, she had to undergo a liver transplant

00:43to save her life.

00:45And just this October, she underwent surgery.

00:48Now, I am getting better.

00:52I am able to do more compared to when I was sick.

00:56I am very thankful to NKDI, to HOPE,

01:00and even to the family who donated organs.

01:03Francesca is one of the patients who became a successful organ transplant patient

01:08who participated in the formal donation of Liloco,

01:11which is called Vita Infinitum,

01:13to the National Kidney and Transplant Institute.

01:16This monument serves as a tribute to the brave organ donors

01:21who donated parts of their bodies for the well-being of others.

01:26According to NKDI, more than 10 patients are waiting for a liver transplant

01:31while more than 300 patients are on the line for a kidney transplant.

01:36The success rate of transplants here in the Philippines is good.

01:40We can compare it to the whole world, especially in Asia.

01:46Let's put it at 95% success rate, especially if it's a living donation.

01:52NKDI is also pushing for a deceased organ donation

01:56that can be used by donors for all patients in need.

02:01They are also strict in reminding the public

02:03about the sale of organs that are against the law.

02:07Meanwhile, NKDI is in charge because of the continuous increase

02:11in the number of cases of chronic kidney disease in the Philippines.

02:15In fact, the number of cases of CKD in the country is increasing from 17 to 20%.

02:21According to the Department of Health,

02:23more than 1 million Filipinos have kidney disease

02:26and 80% of them are under dialysis.

02:30The number of patients with chronic kidney disease

02:34who are under dialysis and transplantation is also increasing.

02:39According to the Ministry of Health,

02:41we need to follow the guidelines to prevent the spread of kidney disease.
