00:00This is a case of SN who today has been found guilty of 26 offences relating to two of his
00:08children.
00:09Now, the jury was told that he sexually abused these two children over a seven year period
00:15from 2009 in several suburbs in Newcastle in the Hunter Valley.
00:20Now the jury began deliberating yesterday after being sent out late on Tuesday.
00:27Now it was their task to consider the evidence of the two siblings.
00:30One of them, LN, has been diagnosed with dissociative identity disorder, previously known as multiple
00:36personality disorder.
00:38Now the jury heard evidence from LN herself as well as from three of her alters.
00:44Now this is a landmark case in relation to that.
00:47It's the first time where several alters were sworn in as a person was giving evidence on
00:53the stand.
00:54So the first alter we heard from was that of a 13 year old girl, quite brash and sassy.
01:00We also heard from an older lady who was quite authoritative and it was her role as a carer.
01:06There was also that of a five year old, quite girlish and childlike as she played with a
01:12soft toy bunny in the witness box.
01:15Now evidence from those alters and LN was of chronic abuse and the jury today accepted
01:21that abuse.
01:23The sibling, AB, also gave evidence for several days.
01:26AB alleged chronic abuse over that time at motels they were staying at, at various rentals
01:33etc. in suburbs around Newcastle.
01:37So the jury today came back guilty on all of those charges and then what followed was
01:44a detention application to keep SN, the father, to have him remanded in custody.
01:51The defence argued against that but ultimately the judge said that he was likely to serve
01:56a lengthy stint in jail and remanded him in custody and he'll be sentenced next year.
