00:00Here at Martin Place, these pop-up display boards behind me will remain until December
00:0717. It marks 10 years since the Link Café siege on December 15, where gunman and terrorist
00:14man, Haram Manas, went into the Link Café taking 18 people hostage and killing Tori
00:20Johnson before Katrina Dawson was killed in the attack when police went into the operation
00:27hitting Ms Dawson with a crossfire bullet. The event seared into many in Sydney's brain,
00:33including Chris Minns, the current Premier of New South Wales.
00:37Your heart went out for the families who lost loved ones, but also the trauma of being part
00:43of a hostage situation. I know that it takes a long time for people to grieve and move
00:49through that process, but I hope the families that were put in those terrible circumstances
00:54and those that were in the café during the siege know that there's an enormous amount
00:59of goodwill for them and that Australians were behind them during this terrible period.
01:03The memorial itself features quotes that were left not long after the siege first occurred,
01:08along with the 100,000 floral bouquets that were left to mark tribute to this tragic and
01:14horrendous event. While the boards only will last until December 17, there is also a permanent
01:20fixture, a memorial called Reflection, which features glass cubes with floral clippings
01:25inside them that are carved into the pavement, allowing people to come and have a solemn
01:30moment to reflect on a day that shook not just Sydney, but the entire nation.
