There is no objection to states or sporting event organisers imposing a dress code for female athletes as long as these are discussed and made known in advance, says Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Adam Adli.
He said the ministry has always given organisers room to set reasonable conditions for attire and other matters as deemed appropriate.

00:00My question is, is the government willing to move forward to establish a line of clothing guidance specifically for Muslim women's athletes,
00:11so that this sport can be participated by many women without them having to compromise the culture and religion of our fifth country,
00:21which is prosperity and well-being. Thank you.
00:26Thank you, Your Honour. I understand your concern.
00:36There are two aspects I see here. The first is related to the issue of women's development in the sport,
00:43which we, especially through the leadership of the Honourable Minister of Sport,
00:54we always implement many basic principles that involve the empowerment of women in the sport.
01:04For example, throughout this year and last year, we have been actively holding women's seminars in the sport.
01:13We also have an agenda called Women's Equipment in the Sport.
01:17We can see the role played by many former women's athletes to ensure that we do not undermine these women's development programmes.
01:28The second aspect is the issue of ethical co-ordination, such as clothing, charity and so on.
01:34In fact, if we look at the clothing requirements in our country, we do provide a pathway for any sponsor
01:44to put in place a certain number of clothing requirements and so on,
01:51especially if it is sponsored by a country.
01:54If we look at the example of several countries, for example, in Terengganu,
01:58there is a sponsorship involving women where we do not have an obstacle when it comes to the clothing requirements.
02:06This has become a compromise between all of us.
02:15Because the holder of the clothing requirements is not limited to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
02:19We also look at the country's sponsors.
02:22We also look at the organizations that are at the top of the list.
02:26Every country, every place, every region has its own way.
02:30As long as it does not undermine the performance of athletes,
02:34and is approved by everyone, we will always consider the best path.
02:41We do not have a negative view of the clothing requirements.
02:48If we look at the athletes in our country, they are free to wear what they want,
02:51according to their needs and desires.
02:55Some meet the requirements, some do not.
02:59It is up to us.
03:01If there is a country that meets the requirements,
03:03we allow it to be discussed and informed first.
